- German Voters and the Virus of the Right.(Spiegel).The Danes bring back border controls, France fears waves of refugees: Germany's neighbors have started to show rampant EU skepticism, but German attitudes toward Europe are no less alarming. A new study shows Germans from across the political spectrum are falling victim to right-wing populism. The Forsa Institute just conducted a new poll for the newspaper Der Freitag in which a representative number of German residents were confronted with bare remarks by four European right-wing populists. The results are unexpectedly clear: Right-wing ideas appeal to an unexpectedly broad portion of the populace.
The voters most prone to express them are members of the conservative CDU/CSU (Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats and their Bavarian sister party), the FDP (the business-friendly Free Democrats) -- and the Left Party, consisting of many former East German communists. Perhaps most alarming is that 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, attitudes nationwide have shifted closer to East German right-wing populism than to analogous ideas from the former West. For example:
■70 percent of those surveyed say Germany gives too much money to the EU
■Almost half want Germany to drastically reduce immigration
■38 percent believe Islam doesn't fit into a German lifestyle and represents a threat to German values
■30 percent want an "independent Germany, without the euro, where the EU holds no legal sway"
These poll numbers should draw the attention of German politicians. Right-wing populism has long been a dominant force in Europe. From Norway to Italy, from Finland to France, right-wing populist parties now have seats in more than 15 national parliaments. And they're gaining influence: On Wednesday the Danes announced that border controls will be reintroduced -- against general EU policy -- to keep out economic refugees and "criminals" from eastern Europe.Germany may be on the same path. The parties are not following a basic demand of the postwar federal constitution, namely that the power and responsibility of decision-making also requires telling some uncomfortable truths to the general population. Politicians and the media have shown astonishing support for the euro under extreme financial pressure; but it would be just as important to show similar support for a balanced relationship with Islam and the flow of immigrants. Too many politicians and journalists fail to take the lead on these ideas, perhaps in fear of popular resentment. Germans lately have grown accustomed to nurturing a positive self-image, free of the shadows of history. But they overlook the dangers of the present. You don't have to cast unique aspersions on German character to worry about the German susceptibility to right-wing ideas. It's bad enough, in the current climate, if Germans fail to behave any better than their neighbors.Hmmmm.......Something is awakening among the European population?Read the full story here.
- U.S. Postal Service to go bankrupt by September.NEW YORK (CNN) -- The U.S. Postal Service continues to hemorrhage money, with a loss of $2.2 billion in the most recent quarter. The national mail service said Tuesday that it expects to have a cash shortfall and reach its statutory borrowing limit by the time its fiscal year ends in September. That means the agency could be forced to default on some of its payments to the federal government. The postal service has estimated that moving to five day service could save $3.1 billion. But the Postal Regulatory Commission, which oversees the agency, issued an advisory in March that put the savings at a much more modest $1.7 billion. While the Postal Service is not strictly a government agency, it is not exactly a private business either. The service will run out of money by September.Hmmmmm....Change you can see?Read the full story here.
- Two Visions in 2012: ‘Social Compact’ vs. Constitution.(BigGovernment).The field of candidates for the 2012 presidential election may not yet be set, but the themes are coming into focus, as are the messages that each side will use to appeal to American voters. The key to Republican victory will be to contrast a positive, conservative vision of America’s future with Obama’s doubtful, radical vision, as reflected in his record.Obama stands for what he calls a “social compact”–a vague socialist ideal, grafted onto the Constitution, in which individual freedom and self-government must bow to the (never realized) ideal of material equality or fairness.Republicans, bolstered by the Tea Party, must stand for the liberty that our Founders enshrined in the Constitution, informed by the timeless values that nurture it and expressed through policies that advance growth and opportunity.Hmmmm....On the one side freedom on the other side a Communist dictatorship.Read the full story here.
- WaPo op-ed contributor and former Gitmo detainee posts photoshopped dead Obama pic on his website.(DailyCaller).The Washington Post’s Outlook section just gave ex-jihadi Moazzem Begg a half-page this Sunday to lament the U.S. war on jihadis, and Begg repaid the Post by showcasing a photoshopped image of a dead President Barack Obama on his advocacy website.“The decision to publish Begg’s piece does not reflect a blanket endorsement of his views or of everything that appears on his organization’s Web site,” according to a statement from Carlos Lozada, the section’s editor. He reports to Marcus Brauchli, the Post’s executive editor. “It reflects our interest in exploring the many ways that Osama bin Laden shattered and upended lives… [and] the experience of a Guantanamo detainee is completely relevant.”The Investigative Project on Terrorism directed TheDC to the photo on Begg’s website.Lozada’s response came just before Thursday, when shareholders are expected to protest financial losses by the newspaper’s parent company, The Washington Post Co. The company’s main revenue-source, the Kaplan education division, has lower profits than expected. The image, which can be seen at Begg’s Cage Prisoners website, shows a doctored image of Obama with fatal head-wounds. The image is headlined “Breaking News: Barack Obama is Dead,” and comes with a subhead declaring that “American War Criminal Barack Obama has been killed by Pakistani security forces in the UK, Prime Minister Hasan Abdullah of Pakistan has said.”Begg is the director of the website, and the image and accompanying blog-post are featured on the site’s main page. The May 9 blog post portrays Obama as a “devout Christian” version of Osama bin Laden, the Muslim leader of the Islamist Al Qaeda network. “Obama is believed to have ordered almost 200 attacks in North and South Waziristan between 2009 and 2011 in which almost 2000 people were killed, when he served as Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces. Obama is also believed to have ordered the continued bombardment of Afghanistan during the same period in which thousands of others were killed,” according to the article’s author, Fahad Ansari.Hmmmmm.....Yup Obama surely needs "More outreach to Muslims".Read the full story here.
- 'Blasphemy' - Genius and Messiah President Obama, Completely Wrong on Reason for High Unemployment.(NationalReview).CBS’ Mark Knoller, covering a town hall on the economy with the president this morning, reports: “President Obama blames high unemployment rate on ‘huge layoffs of government workers’ at federal, state and local levels.”This is completely wrong. Extremely and mind-bogglingly wrong. Epically wrong.Again, the numbers are stable, and even indicate that local government employment is increasing, not decreasing.Obama is not even a little bit right. Will anyone call him out on this?UPDATE: The full quote is here:
“The reason the unemployment rate is still as high as it is, in part, is because there have been huge layoffs of government workers at the federal level, at the state level, at the local level,” he said. “Teachers, police officers, firefighters, social workers– they have really taken it in the chin over the last several months. And so, what we’re trying to do is to see if we can stabilize the budget.”
Again, completely false. There has not been a significant reduction – or even variation, really – in the size of the government workforce at the federal, state, and local level.Hmmmm......Lie and keep repeating the lie till it becomes "Truth"?Read the full story here.
- Chairman Obama: Government Jobs More Important Than Those in The Private Sector.(StoryBalloon).Starts at 1:30 mark:
Only when your goal is a communist-style bloated government bureaucracy.
OBAMA: Let me just first of all say that workers like you, for the federal, state, and local governments, are so important for our vital services. And it frustrates me sometimes when people talk about ‘government jobs’ as if somehow those are worth less than private sector jobs. I think there is nothing more important than working on behalf of the American people.
FEDERAL WORKER: I thought I would be more important and secure.
OBAMA: I agree with you.Hmmm.....Communist dictatorship anyone?Read and see the full story here.
- More 'gutsy calla' from Obama!(AnnCoulter).Last week, Obama made the gutsy call to threaten public schools that are asking students for proof of residency. The memorandum warned school districts that it's illegal to ask students for proof of citizenship or legal residency status. Obama's wealthy donors need illegals so they can get cheap nannies, cooks and pool boys. On the other hand, illegals being paid off the books are not helping Americans find jobs. Then Obama made the gutsy decision to sue Arizona to block a state law requiring secret ballots for union elections. Who's benefiting here -- and who's being harmed? The union bosses will be happy, but American workers will now be subjected to union thuggery coercing them to vote for the unions. Two weeks ago, Obama's National Labor Relations Board made the gutsy call to file a complaint against Boeing for attempting to build a new airplane production plant in South Carolina -- a right-to-work state -- and demanding that the plant be opened in Washington state -- a dying Democratic pro-union state. They incessantly repeat "gutsy call" for "you'd have to have been brain-dead not to make the call to kill bin Laden," hoping the Democratic Party will suddenly seem macho.Read the full story here.
- If you want a federal contract, better be nice to Emperor Obama.(WashingtonExaminor).President Obama neatly summed up his political philosophy last year when he advised Latinos to "punish our enemies" and "reward our friends" on immigration issues. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., took a brave stand against that philosophy Tuesday, announcing his opposition to a draft presidential executive order that would require any company seeking a government contract to disclose all federal political contributions by the firm's owners, directors and managers. If Obama signs the order, he will effectively restore the partisan spoils system in federal contracting that civil service reformers struggled for decades to eradicate. What's happening here is that, since last November's smashing Republican election victory, Obama has sought every possible power lever to increase his 2012 re-election chances, including invoking federal laws and regulations to stifle contributions to his political opponents. Shortly after the 2010 election, Obama's wholly owned think tank subsidiary, the Center for American Progress, helpfully compiled a list of such power levers, including the benignly titled "Disclosure of Political Spending By Government Contractors" draft executive order that now appears close to being signed. This proposed order is anything but benign. Not only does it require disclosure of individual contributions to partisan candidates, it also covers donations to any organization that might use the funds for "independent expenditures or electioneering communications," otherwise known as political speech protected by the First Amendment.Liberal groups claim that these disclosure requirements are only meant to increase transparency, not chill political speech. But if that were true, consider this: In 2010, Obama's liberal allies, including unions, spent $95 million on independent expenditures like those funded by corporations. But unions that sign collective bargaining contracts with the federal government are exempt from the Obama order's "disclosure" requirements. Clearly, the chill would only be felt among Obama opponents.Hmmm.....'You are eighter with me or against me' would be a correct 2012 motto for the Obama regime.Read the full story here.
- Congressmen to Obama 'buddy' Erdogan: Stop next flotilla.(Ynet).Group of bipartisan US legislators urge Turkish prime minister to prevent next sail to Gaza, say 'another so-called aid flotilla is nothing but an attempt to provoke Israel'.A bipartisan group of 36 American congressmen called on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to prevent another Turkish flotilla from sailing toward the Gaza Strip. Sixteen of the legislators are also members of the Caucus on US-Turkish Relations.Fifteen ships are scheduled to set sail to the Gaza Strip during the month of June – a year after nine Turkish activists were killed from IDF fire on board the Mavi Marmara ship. In their appeal, the congressmen urged Erdogan to find alternative ways to transfer humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The bipartisan appeal, initiated by Congressman Tom Cole (R–Okla.) and Congressman Steve Israel (D–NY), read: “We write today to express our serious concern over reports that the so-called Free Gaza Movement and the IHH are planning to send another flotilla to Gaza in the coming weeks to provoke a confrontation with Israel. "As members of the United States House of Representatives we ask you to help discourage these efforts and work with the Israeli government in a productive way as it continues to allow legitimate aid, but not weapons, to enter Gaza.” “The Turkish government can help prevent violence by saying ‘no.’ We are urging Prime Minister Erdogan to actively work to put a stop to this and join with Israel in providing real humanitarian assistance to Gaza,” he wrote. In their letter to Erdogan, the congressmen noted that the State of Israel had the right to defend the citizens of Israel, and emphasized the threat innocent Israelis face from weapons smuggled into the Strip. The congressmen mentioned incidents in which Israel seized arms shipments that were en-route to Gaza and concluded that like any other state, Israel must take all the necessary precautions to defend its citizens. Hmmmm....."Israel must take all the necessary precautions to defend its citizens". Read the full story here.
- New Survey Finds Obama's buddies the “Turks Don’t Like Anybody”!(Memri).A new survey conducted in Turkey by SETA demonstrated that 74% of Turks don’t like the Armenians, 71% dislike Israel and the Jews, 69% dislike the Greeks, 64% dislike Americans, 54% the Europeans and Russians and the list goes on. The only favored group seems to be the Azerbaijan’s Turks. These figures reflect on how the public opinion has been shaped during the nine year rule of the AKP government, and PM Erdogan’s hostile rhetoric. Prominent Turkish journalist Ertugrul Ozkok of Hurriyet, wrote in his column that these findings, and the hostility and sometimes the violence towards ‘all others’ are both astonishing and alarming, and added that “it is time to gather the best sociologists and psychologists in the country and ask the question, ‘Why don’t we (Turks) like anybody?’”Yavuz Bulent Bakiler of the pro-AKP daily Turkiye responded to Ozkok’s article by justifying the negative sentiments towards all foreign peoples. He asked, “How can we love the Jews? Their biblical ideal is even depicted on their flag. They want to build the ‘Great Israel’ that will cover all the area between Euphrates and Nile. The Jews are oppressing our brethren in Palestine… How can our nation love the Jews?”Bakiler also asked, “Which sensible Turk could trust America’s friendship?” and asserted that had America wanted, with one word to (Kurdish) Talabani and Barzani, it could have ended their savagery. “How can we love Americans?” he asked. He also criticized Europeans for supporting the PKK terror, for stirring up the Alevi issue in Turkey and wrote, “They are the ones that are hostile towards Turks”.Hmmmm.....Keep Turkey out of the European Union and Get them out of NATO!Read the full story here.
- 'Kayhan,' Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi: Ahmadinejad's Messianic Proclamations Unacceptable.(Memri).Iranian Ayatollah Mesbah Taqi Yazdi, who is considered the mentor of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has pointed out the danger of Ahmadinejad's statements that the Hidden Imam is running society. He said that these statements make clerics' role in society redundant. The Kayhan daily, which is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stated that Ahmadinejad's statements about his relationship with the Hidden Imam are unacceptable and present him as someone who is free from errors and immune to criticism.Hmmmm......Mahmoud you better lay off the magic mushrooms.Read the full story here.

- Bill In Egypt To Prevent Religious Discrimination.(Memri).Following the clashes between Copts and Muslims in Egypt, the Egyptian government announced that it would propose two bills – one of them for a law that Copts have been demanding for many years, that would equalize conditions for construction of houses of worship for Muslims and Christians and allow Christians to freely construct churches without presidential permission. The second law would prevent discrimination among the various religions in the country and ban religious incitement.Hmmmm....Proposing a law doesn't mean approving a law.Read the full fairytale story here.

- Saudi school terrorized by cat-sized rats.(Emirates24/7).Rats as big as cats are wreaking havoc at Saudi female school, pushing teachers and school children to stay away from toilets and other places where the massive rodents are believed to live. The rats appear to have developed a sort of immunity to poison as they are still settling in the school in the southern town of Khamis Mushait although it has been sprayed by the municipality many times, according to Sabq newspaper.“These rats are so big that they are causing panic and horror among the female teachers and school children,” the paper said.“The teachers said the rats are as big as cats and some of them are even bigger…they have infested the school for over seven years and most of the teachers and students are scared to go the bathroom which appear to be a base for those rats.”The paper said the manager had sent a fresh letter to education authorities to end the ordeal of the nearly 170 students and teachers at the three-storey school. It quoted a school child’s father as saying his daughter once brought home a rat from the school. “I thought she was carrying a cat.”Hmmmmm.....Who's feeding them?Read the full story here.
