Air Canada walkout - Breaking : Air Canada gets injunction ending wildcat strikes.(Yahoo).TORONTO - Air Canada cancelled more than two dozen flights to Canadian and U.S. destinations early today as a wildcat strike by its ground workers in Toronto touched off travel chaos at Pearson International Airport.
Labour Minister Lisa Raitt reacted to the walkout — triggered, some employees said, by workers being disciplined after they spotted her in the airport — by warning that law enforcement had been notified and that stiff fines could be levied if the strike was ruled illegal.
At least 50 Air Canada flights were also delayed, as were some from other airlines, after ground workers walked off the job Thursday evening and left hundreds of passengers in limbo.
Many passengers were forced to disembark from flights already on the tarmac until management was able take over some baggage-handling duties and allow the delayed flights to continue to their destinations.
Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said the airline's lawyers were discussing how to bring an end to the strike.Read the full story here.Updated here.
