CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian official says a judge has ordered ousted President Mohammed Morsi to be detained for 15 more days, as investigations continue into charges that he conspired with Palestinian terrorists during the country’s 2011 uprising.
The judicial official says Judge Hassan Samir made his decision Monday while looking into accusations that Morsi colluded with Hamas to break out of the Wadi al-Natroun prison west of Cairo along with 33 other members of his Muslim Brotherhood group.
Morsi has been held, largely incommunicado, since the military toppled him on July 3 after millions took to the streets demanding that he leave.
This is the second time his detention has been renewed. The first was on July 26.
The official spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to brief the media.
