Ayatollah Khomeini, 1979.
"Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious."
Around 3,640 people committed suicide in Iran last year (the year ends on March 21), head of the Iranian Forensic Medicine Research Center Mahmoud Khodadoust said, the organization's website (www.lmo.ir) reported today.

Around 2,530 men and 1,110 women committed suicide, he added.

Most suicides occurred in the provinces of Tehran, Gilan and Kirmanshah, least of all - in the provinces of South Khorasan, North Khorasan, Kohgiluya and Boyer-Ahmad, he stressed.

A suicide attempt is more often observed among young people aged 18-24 (28.2 per cent), followed by people aged 30-39 (22.2 per cent), 25-29 (17.6 per cent), over 50 (12.9 per cent), 40-49 (11.1 per cent) and young people under the age of 18 (7.9 per cent), he added.
