Iraqi Relief Helicopter Crashes over Mount Shingal. (Rudaw).

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—A MI 17 helicopter delivering humanitarian aid to refugees on Mount Shingal crashed due losing balance, killing the pilot and wounding 20 others, including an Iraqi member of parliament.

"Today a plane delivering aid to the refugees in Shingal Mountain lost its balance and crashed," a source told Rudaw by telephone.

The helicopter belonged to the Iraqi army and according to 'Iraq's Army Spokesman General Qassim Atta, the helicopter crashed due to a “technical error.”

Thousands of Yezidis have been stranded on Mount Shingal for more than a week after fleeing from Islamic State (IS) militants that took control of their town, killing and abducting hundreds.

The source added that Vian Dakhil, a Yezidi member of Iraqi parliament was also on board the helicopter with 20 refugees. All are wounded, he said.
