'I'm back, Obama': ISIS executioner Jihadi John taunts President as he beheads second US journalist, Steven Sotloff. (Dailymail).

BEIRUT (AP) — An Internet video purports to show the beheading of U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff by the Islamic State group.

Sotloff, who freelanced for Time and Foreign Policy magazines, had last been seen in Syrian in August 2013 until he appeared in a video released online last month by the Islamic State group that showed the beheading of fellow American journalist James Foley.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit against the backdrop of an arid Syrian landscape, Sotloff was threatened in that video with death unless the U.S. stopped airstrikes on the group in Iraq.

In the video distributed Tuesday and entitled “A Second Message to America,” Sotloff appears in a similar jumpsuit before he is beheaded by an Islamic State fighter.

The video appears to show the same British fighter who killed James Foley. He threatens a new hostage, Briton David Haines.Hmmm....The NYT post exposing Sotloff's Jewish roots did in fact put Sotloff as next in line for beheading. Shortly after posting the story the NYT changed the story, but that might have been too late.Read the full story here.More here from Carl in Jerusalem.
Update: Steven Sotloff Was Jewish. HT: Forward.

We can now say that Steven Joel Sotloff was Jewish.
We can now say that he was the grandson of Holocaust survivors, that his mother was a preschool teacher at Temple Beth Am in Pinecrest, Florida, a Reform synagogue in South Miami where Sotloff attended day school.
We can now relay to you that “the family has been very much a part of the South Bay Jewish community,” as Jacob Solomon, president and CEO of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, told us for the record.
We can now say all this publicly because Sotloff is dead, the second American journalist beheaded by the barbaric Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. An impermeable cone of silence surrounded news of Sotloff’s disappearance last year and, more recently, the fact of his Jewish background and connections. That silence was requested by his family and maintained by media and Jewish organizations, including the Forward, in the hope that it would protect him from the worst.
