Video - '$ 4 an hour' Security Guards - Mobile security robot to be mass produced.(Factor).

In a move that will rock the job security of night watchmen everywhere, the world’s first commercially available security robot is set for mass production in the US.

Designed by Denver-based Gamma 2 Robotics, the robot will now be manufactured entirely in the States, with a process that can be scaled up to full mass production as demand grows.

The robot, which is known as the Vigilant MCP (mobile camera platform), features a digital camera and an array of sensors to detect the presence of unauthorised intruders, and will activate the alarm and send out an alert should it find someone where they shouldn’t be.

It is being pushed as a solution to night security in particular, with proposed industries including retail, warehouses, data centres and convention centres. At a minimum the Vigilant Security Robot provides reliable patrol-and-report security for $4 per hour, working 12-hr shifts every day in the economically challenged physical security industry. And remember those 'Minimum wage rate hikes'?

After McDonald's Strikes, Corporation Eyes Replacing Workers With Robots

You remember that great idea "Let's raise min wages"? It ain't such great idea after All!

You remember that great idea "Let's raise min wages"? It ain't such great idea after All! HT: Business Insider.

McDonald’s is quietly testing an order-ahead and mobile payment app at a tiny handful of its more than 14,000 U.S. locations.

The pilot is limited to 22 locations in the Columbus, Georgia area. Called “McD Ordering,” the app links to a credit or debit card, which is automatically charged when a customer arrives and scans a QR code displayed at the restaurant.

The phone then displays the customer’s order number. Once everything’s ready, the customer picks up food and drinks — without waiting in a line or interacting with a cashier.

Notice how companies in Seattle have between three and seven years to start paying the $15/hour rate? *wink*

Will this be a ready-the-robots phase? I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what happens, at least to some extent in fast food:
Funded by San Francisco’s Lemnos Labs, it has developed a robot designed to take the place of humans in burger restaurants.
Its creators believe their patty-flipping Alpha robot could save the fast-food industry in the United States about US$9 billion a year.
Designed to entirely replace two to three full-time kitchen staff, it can grill a beef patty, layer it with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions, put it in a bun, and wrap it up to go – no less than 360 times an hour. Momentum believes kitchen robots are not only more cost-effective than human staff, they are also more hygienic.
Silicon Valley technology industry watchers believe businesses will be early adopters of 21st-Century robotics technology.
“Like PCs, we’ll likely see the first wave in business because it can handle the costs more readily and then move to the high end of the consumer market,” says the Rob Enderle, the principal analyst at the Enderle Group, based in Silicon Valley.

The real minimum wage will be “zero” for individuals who lose their jobs as a result of the federal minimum wage increase, according to The Heritage Foundation’s Chief Economist Steve Moore.

“You know what the minimum wage is going to be for those people who lose their job? It’s going to be zero. Their wage is going to go from $7.50 to zero,” Moore said Thursday on CNN’s Crossfire.

Moore and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader joined CNN’s Van Jones and Newt Gingrich for the on-air debate, during which the panel argued about this week’s Congressional Budget Office report on the effects of increasing the federal minimum wage.

According to the CBO, a wage increase to $10.10 “would reduce total employment by about 500,000 workers” and could even put up to 1 million workers out of work.

Moore noted that raising the federal minimum wage would  exacerbate America’s existing unemployment problem.

“The reason Americans aren’t getting a raise right now is because [there are] 20 million Americans that are unemployed,” he said.

Arguing that rampant unemployment is the nation’s most pressing issue, Moore pushed for a dialogue on job growth policies rather than minimum wage. “I don’t think the government should set prices and I don’t think it should set wages,” he said.
