Canadian liberals Gone soft on Terrorism ?
Widely popular young leader of the Liberal Party Justin Trudeau was quick to embrace his party’s multicultural stance.
“Mutual respect and admiration will help to prevent the influence of distorted ideological propaganda posing as religion. We will walk forward together, not apart,” Trudeau said during his speech, as quoted by CBC News.
Trudeau’s statement found support among those who embrace multiculturalism, freedom and democratic values.
“This tragedy should not be treated as an opportunity to point fingers, blame others, or resort to xenophobia and fear. Instead, it should remind us that despite tragic events, we have built a country with strong and just values that we continue to live by every day”, Huffington Post Canada said, in support of Trudeau’s words.

CTV News has confirmed mother of suspected shooter is Susan Bibeau, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and Refugee Canada.
— Norma Reid (@CTVNorma) October 23, 2014
Sadly we can't choose our relatives!
On April 1, 2009, Susan Bibeau was appointed Director General of the Immigration Division, after performing those duties on an acting basis since July 2008. Effective December 15, 2012, the Director General of the ID became known as the Deputy Chairperson of the ID.
Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada Minto Place, 344 Slater St. Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0K1Suspected Shooter in Canada Was Deemed ‘High-Risk So why was nothing done was he 'Protected' ?
Ms. Bibeau did not answer e-mails Wednesday, and staff at her offices declined to comment. No one answered the door at her Montreal townhouse.
Mr. Zehaf also could not be reached.
Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau grew up in Eastern Canada, including Ottawa and Montreal, and had spent time in Libya before moving to Western Canada to become a miner and labourer, according to friend Dave Bathurst.
Mr. Bathurst said he met Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau in a Burnaby, B.C., mosque about three years ago. He said his friend did not at first appear to have extremist views or inclinations toward violence – but at times exhibited a disturbing side.
CBS News said his full name was Michael Abdul Zehaf Bibeau, and that he dropped both his first and second names at times. Canadian authorities had considered him a "high-risk traveller" and his passport was taken away, according to The Globe and Mail. More about Michael Abdul Zehaf Bibeau here.
Vancouver lawyer Brian Anderson defended Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau after he was charged for a 2011 robbery. “He was charged with robbing somebody and he pled guilty to uttering a threat,” he said. “It was something fairly minor and fairly bizarre.”
Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau underwent a psychiatric assessment at Surrey Pretrial and was “found fit – not certifiable per overnight assessment.” …
“There is a disaster in Zawiyah. All the buildings have been damaged; residents have been killed in their homes,” said Belgasem Zahef, a Zawiyah native who recently returned to his home in Montreal after spending over a month in detention. He was arrested in Zawiyah where he had gone to fight alongside the rebels.
Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau was born in 1982 and was the son of Bulgasem Zehaf, a Quebec businessman who appears to have fought in 2011 in Libya, and Susan Bibeau, the deputy chairperson of a division of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board. The two were divorced in 1999.

Breaking - Shots fired near Canadian parliament. LIVE UPDATES FROM BBC
TORONTO – One suspect is dead after a Canadian soldier was shot at the War Memorial in Ottawa Wednesday morning, a source told Global News. Police are searching for at least one other suspect after multiple shots were also fired inside Parliament Hill and the Rideau Centre. Police cannot confirm how many suspects are armed.
According to a witness, a suspect with a gun seen at the War Memorial had black hair, was wearing a grey jacket and a scarf.
Multiple shots have been fired at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, just steps from the nation's parliament.
Witnesses reported seeing a man running toward the government buildings, which have been placed on lockdown.
A soldier has been wounded in the attack, Canadian media report.
Witnesses on the scene at the War Memorial said they were in shock; a number of them performed CPR on the victim.
A second witness described the suspect as having long, dark hair and wearing long pants and a long jacket.
“I heard the first shot and I saw the guard go down, then three more shots and I was taking cover myself, so I wasn’t paying attention to everything that was going on,” said the witness. “He just took off.”
The incident comes amid the nation's raising of its terror threat level from low to medium, after a Muslim convert was killed by Quebec police after hitting two soldiers with his car.
"Shots fired at War Memorial at 9:52am today; one person injured," Ottawa Police tweeted on Wednesday.
"Shots fired at War Memorial at 9:52am today; one person injured," Ottawa Police tweeted on Wednesday as a witness reported seeing authorities search from room to room for the suspect.
Additional shots were fired inside the parliament buildings, multiple news agencies and eyewitnesses reported.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper "is safe and has left Parliament Hill", his director of communications wrote on Twitter.
To recap, at the moment we understand that a gunman has been shot dead inside the parliament building in Ottawa.
This followed a soldier being shot near the war memorial close to parliament. The soldier was pictured being treated at the scene, but it's unclear what his condition is.
There are also reports that there could be more gunmen still in the area. Police are understood to be expanding the area under lockdown in the city.
A government official earlier said the raised threat level was in response to an increase in online "general chatter" from radical groups including Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
