• N. Korea Threatens to Retaliate Against S. Korea.South Korea's Planned Naval Drills This Week Are Near the Disputed Sea Border With North Korea.The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported Tuesday that the military will crush the naval drills with a powerful physical blow and warned all civilian ships to stay away from areas near the sea border.The South Korean drills are planned for Thursday through Monday.

• TV Host Targets Afghan Women's Shelters.The televised images shown earlier this year on one of Afghanistan's most popular television shows were stark: several women wailed in a bare room while the host implied that international aid workers had forced them into prostitution.The shelters are "not acceptable for our people, who have fought 30 years to put the word 'Islam' in front of Afghanistan," he says, referring to the country's full name, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
