• French anti-Islamists plan Demonstration: Grand Apéritif Républicain 4 September.Following the success of the apero in Paris on 18 June, the website Riposte Laique and a coalition of twenty other groups/bloggers is planning another apero that they have dubbed the Grand Apéritif Républicain which will take place on 4 September to mark the 140th anniversary of the founding of the proclamation of the Third Republic. This time, protests against Islamisation will be held in a number of cities across France: Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Strasbourg and Toulouse.

• Amnesty Int'l Finland: Israel scum state.The head of Amnesty International’s Finnish branch, Frank Johansson, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday that he stands by his statement that Israel is a “scum state.”Writing in his blog, which appears on the Web site of Finland’s third largest newspaper Iltalehti, Johansson wrote on Monday that “A friend of mine who works in Israel was visiting [and] while piling wood in the shed, we got to [talking about] his favourite topic. [After] several years of residence in the Holy Land, he has come to the conclusion that ‘Israel is a scum state.’ Based on my own visit[s], which occurred during the 1970s and for the last time in the 1990s, I agree.”

• US Funds Restoration of Global Islamic Sites.The good will tour of the Middle East by the imam behind the proposed mosque near ground zero is just part of the U.S. government's efforts to reach out to the Muslim world.This year, the Obama administration will spend nearly $6 million to restore 63 historic and cultural sites, including mosques and minarets, in 55 nations, according to State Department documents.Under a program established by Congress in 2001, the department will fund at least five projects in as many countries at a cost of more than $271,000.

• Dozens of bodies found at Mexico ranch.Mexican troops say they have discovered 72 bodies at a ranch in the north of the country.The bodies were found after a shoot-out with suspected drug cartel gunmen in which three gunmen and one marine were killed, the military said.Found near San Fernando in Tamaulipas state, the corpses are reportedly those of 58 men and 14 women.More than 28,000 people have died in drug-related violence in Mexico over the last four years.

• Obama's Afghan withdrawal date bolsters enemy-Marines.President Barack Obama's July 2011 date to start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan has given a morale boost to Taliban insurgents, who believe they can wait out NATO forces, the top U.S. Marine said on Tuesday.But General James Conway, who is retiring this fall as commandant of the Marine Corps, said he believed Marines would not be in a position to withdraw from the fight in southern Afghanistan for years.

• Canada to open new Arctic station at Cambridge Bay.Canada will set up a research station at Cambridge Bay in the Arctic, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said.The facility will be a "world-class, year-round, multidisciplinary facility exploring the cutting-edge of Arctic science" Mr Harper said in a statement.The announcement comes at a time when melting ice has opened the territory up to shipping and mineral exploration.Correspondents say the move is designed to bolster Canada's claims to disputed parts of the territory.

'Palestinians' saying one thing in English for international consumption and another in Arabic for their own 'people' is unfortunately a common occurrence. Still, this is about as blatant as it gets, and it's largely gone unnoticed.

A serious cloud of danger hangs over our southern border, but Obama uses fear and harm to Americans as a bargaining tool for immigration reform.As the border war continues and bullets fly across the El Paso border hitting a building on the U.S. side, Governor Rick Perry accuses President Barack Hussein Obama of "gambling with American lives." "For the second time in two months, bullets from a gun battle in the escalating drug war in Juarez have struck a building in El Paso," said Perry. "It is unconscionable that the Obama administration is gambling with American lives." Perry added,

• Homeland Security plans to set up permanent shop in South Philadelphia.In cities across America, a new class of surveillance facility is springing up, courtesy of the department of homeland security. They're called "fusion centers" and their purpose is to serve as hubs for accumulating information from any and all law enforcement organizations, both state and federal. In other words, they are the beginnings of the physical manifestation of the "brain" of the New World Order, perhaps at this point only a nervous system, but clearly a push toward an era when all information about private citizens will be readily available to all federal.

• Why Are We ‘Driving Ms. Daisy’?: State Dept. about to Send GZM Imam’s Wife to Join Him on Goodwill Mideast Tour.Americans were outraged to learn that their tax-dollars were being used to promote the promoter of an idea they overwhelmingly oppose: a triumphalist symbol of toxic shariah supremacism on some of our country’s most hallowed ground.Now, in her latest splendid Forbes.com column, Ms. Rosett brings us what is, if anything, an even more outrageous revelation: The State Department plans shortly to send Daisy Khan, the imam’s voluble wife, to join him on his all-expenses-paid foray. Our intrepid reporter says the couple will actually pull in between them nearly $1,000 per day for representing the United States to these Arab nations as “goodwill ambassadors.”It is a travesty that our government is underwriting or otherwise enabling the dissemination of such pap, let alone facilitating a prime perpetrator’s ambitions to bring shariah to America by building a megamosque within spitting distance of Ground Zero. Team Obama must not compound its many missteps to date in this matter by next driving Ms. Daisy, as well as her husband, around the Middle East at our expense – in every sense of the word.Read the whole thing here.

• Elementary School Bans Kids From Singing “Happy Birthday” so Children Aren’t Offended, Shockingly, People Have a Problem With This.A ban on singing “Happy Birthday” lasted all of four days at Chesterfield Elementary School after angry parents bombarded the school with complaints. “Singing is not permitted due to the sensitivity of all student beliefs,” wrote Principal Jodi Davidson in a letter to parents dated August 13.

• Speaker at GZM Rally Witnesses Provocative Behavior from ABC News Staffer.On Sunday I was honored to be a speaker at the rally against building the mosque at ground zero put on by the Coalition to Honor Ground Zero. As the rally concluded, thousands of the participants marched the one block from the rally site to the actual site of Ground Zero.I noticed a man in black shirt with a phone camera aggressively questioning and haranguing a gentleman with the sign, “No Sharia Here.” He was very aggressive, disrespectful and condescending; apparently, he did not like the gentlemen’s answers about Shariah and pushed the point: “Why do you feel threatened? What are you afraid of? Why can’t you answer my questions?”Clearly, the ABC employee’s role at the rally was to provoke a confrontation with participants so ABC News cameras could record it and then use the footage. The ABC employee was literally making news.

• Geoengineering 'not a solution' to sea-level rise.Even the most extreme geoengineering approaches will not stop sea levels from rising due to climate change, a study suggests.New research proposes that as many as 150 million people could be affected as ocean levels increases by 30cm to 70cm by the end of this century.This could result in flooding of low-lying coastal areas, including some of the world's largest cities.The team published the study in the journal PNAS.
