MFS - The Other News

                          Morning Posting.

  • From an Actual Moderate Muslim, a Memo to the MSM on Imam Rauf.As an African American Muslim convert for nearly a quarter century, I believe I’ve earned the right to weigh in on the bitter controversy surrounding the proposed mosque at Ground Zero.

  • US warns of threat to foreign aid workers in Pakistan. The Pakistani Taliban are planning to attack foreigners helping with flood relief efforts in the country, a senior US official has warned. The Taliban plan "to conduct attacks against foreigners participating in the ongoing flood relief operations in Pakistan", the official told the BBC.The official also said "provincial ministers in Islamabad" may be at risk.

  • My Phone Call With the First Lady of the Ground Zero Mosque.I got the privilege of a one hour phone call with Daisy Khan today. Khan is the leader of ASMA (American Society for Muslim Advancement) and the now famous wife of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Together they are the force behind opening up a mosque and large Muslim community center near Ground Zero. What did I learn from the call? That Khan presents herself as a pluralistic Muslim, but is quite the spin master and has no plans of actually listening to anyone she disagrees with.

  • Chris Matthews: I’m the Decider and Obama’s a Christian! If MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews feels a thrill run up his leg when he sees President Obama, that’s his problem.Taking a politician at his word is naive, at best.President Reagan was right: Trust, but verify.President Obama has been describing himself as a Christian since even before he first ran for public office, but he has not proven that he is “a true Christian” and Matthews and his ilk cannot do it for the most pro-abortion President in American history."Mr. Obama says he's a Christian, Mr. Keyes would say, and yet he supports a lifestyle that the Bible calls an abomination.By his own implicit admission, Obama retained some of his skepticism too and Obama acknowledged (p. 207) politics drew him to Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.’s black liberation theology-grounded, Trinity United Church of Christ. If Obama is entitled to be skeptical about Christianity, why aren’t Americans entitled to be skeptical that Obama really is a Christian, Mr. Matthews?

  • The Perfect Iranian Storm on the Horizon.Jonathan Spyer is not your typical Israeli journalist and political analyst. He has a PhD in International Relations, he fought in Lebanon during the summer war of 2006, then went back to Lebanon as a civilian on a second passport.

  • Saudi couple hammer 24 hot nails into their maid after she complained of heavy workload.A Saudi couple tortured their Sri Lankan maid by hammering 24 hot nails into her after she complained of her heavy workload.X-rays showed the brutal result after the nails were hammered into the hands, legs and feet of LT Ariyawathi, a 49-year-old mother-of-three.Ariyawathi had returned to Sri Lanka on Friday after five months in Saudi Arabia.

  • Pamela Geller Gives Longtime Hannity Guest an Overdue Taste of What He Deserves. While Kirsten Powers’s commentary may have once been believed to have a redeeming quality or two, I doubt anyone held any such illusions about “civil rights” attorney and occasional Fox News guest Michael Gross. The man never attempts to hide his innate nastiness, so it was refreshing to see him confronted by someone not known for suffering fools on “Hannity” earlier this week: Pamela Geller.

  • Briton, 20, 'raped twice by Arab soldier' in Dubai after accepting a ride in the back of his car.A British woman was raped twice by an Arab soldier in Dubai after accepting a ride back to her apartment in his car, a Dubai court has heard. The 20-year-old, who works as an office secretary in the Muslim state, said she was attacked after enjoying a night out with friends in the Buddha Bar on January 4.

  • Obamnesty...it's here, feds now dismissing thousands of deportation cases. As has been rumored for some time, the Obama administration has started a ‘backdoor amnesty’ and has begun to drop large numbers of deportation proceedings against illegal aliens. The new policy started quietly about a month ago in Houston.Unable to get an amnesty bill through Congress and facing ever plummeting poll numbers, Obama has simply decided to become our undocumented dictator and make up his own laws.Read the whole story here.More here.

  • I'm a victim too says the widow of 7/7 bomber, in legal aid claim that could delay inquest. The widow of a July 7 suicide bomber yesterday launched a High Court bid to be represented at the victims’ inquest - saying she had also suffered the loss of a loved one in the atrocity.Hasina Patel, whose husband was terrorist mastermind Mohammad Sidique Khan, is seeking legal aid to challenge the coroner’s decision to exclude Khan’s death from the hearing for the 52 victims of the 2005 London bombings.

  • Ground Zero Mosque Developer’s Ad on Muslim Website: “We are Trying to Build a Mosque That Holds 1,000 Worshippers Only 2 Blocks From Ground Zero”.Now of course the developers go to great lengths (and the left even further) not to call it a mosque.Supporters of the “Ground Zero mosque” have been oddly obsessed with the idea that the proposed Islamic center shouldn’t be called a “mosque.” As Frank Rich wrote last Sunday in the New York Times: “It’s not a mosque but an Islamic cultural center containing a prayer room.”But the website for the project, once called the “Cordoba House” and now known as “Park51,” explicitly refers to “the mosque,” although it tries to minimize the mosque’s importance for some reason.

  • Hindus attacked, evicted from ancestral colonies in Sindh land grab scheme.MIRPURKHAS, Sindh: Hindus from the Megwar community have been thrown out from their ancestral property after a Muslim cleric accused a young Hindu of blaspheming the prophet of Islam, Mohammad.

  • Ground Zero Mosque: Reciprocity in Riyadh first Part 1.Wyomingites wonder why these Americans are not calling for the same ‘religious tolerance’ and ‘freedom of religion’ for non-Muslims in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (SA), the capital.

  • How Arabs view the anti-mosque movement.several recent articles claim that the mosque had become the #1 topic of discussion on jihadist forums. Both are wrong, in different ways. Most Arab columnists agree with the argument that the anti-mosque movement will badly harm Arab and Muslim views of the United States, contra Rashed, but there isn't as much active discussion of it in the forums as you'd expect. That isn't a reason to relax, though. The impact is likely to be felt not so much on extremists, whose views about America are rather fixed, but on the vast middle ground, the Arab and Muslim mainstream which both the Bush and Obama administrations have recognized as crucial both for defeating al-Qaeda and for achieving broad American national interests. And that mainstream, not the extremists themselves, is where our attention needs to be focused.

  • So It Begins: DHS implements 'Backdoor Amnesty' and other startling immigration stories our beloved legacy media forgot to report. At the intersection of incompetence and ideology lies a crossroads called Legacy Media.

  • Sarkozy warns world powers will mobilize against Iran if nuclear talks fail.Israel and Iran's Gulf Arab neighbors are concerned about its increasing clout in the region and the prospect of it acquiring nuclear weapons.

  • Tea Party Group Hit With Death Threats. One of Washington's principal supporters of the Tea Party movement, former GOP Majority Leader Dick Armey's FreedomWorks, has been receiving death threats and profanity-laced phone calls as it gets involved in the fall elections. The number and intensity have reached such heights that the organization is leaving its downtown location near the FBI and moving to a high-security building near the U.S. Capitol.

  • HT:TheAmericanDream. The ABC’s Of The Great American Housing Crisis. It doesn't take a genius to realize that a horrific housing crisis in unfolding right in front of our eyes. Yesterday it was announced that existing home sales plummeted 27 percent in the month of July. Today it was announced that new homes sales dropped to the lowest level ever recorded in July. But why is this happening? Why is the American Dream still dying for millions of American families? Wasn't the recession supposed to be over by now? Weren't home prices supposed to be moving back up by this time?

  • If you disagree with the Obama Regime, you could be penalized by the IRS.Z STREET, a pro-Israel non-profit corporation, filed a lawsuit in federal court today charging that the IRS violated the organization’s First Amendment rights. The suit was filed after Z STREET was told by an IRS official that its application for tax-exempt status has been delayed because an IRS policy requires consideration of whether a group’s views on Israel differ from those of the current Administration. “Not only is it patently un-American but it is also a clear violation of the First Amendment for a government agency to penalize an organization because of its political position on Israel or anything else,” said Z STREET president Lori Lowenthal Marcus, a former First Amendment lawyer. “This situation is the same as if the government denied a driver’s license to people because they were Republicans or Democrats. It goes against everything for which our country stands.”

  • HT:Elder of Zion.Latest Arab rumor: Blackberry a CIA-Mossad plot!Ammon News, a Jordanian newspaper, exposes the frightening truth: that Blackberry uses jointly developed CIA-Mossad technology to read everyone's emails and messages! And they have ironclad proof. You see, Blackberry is based out of Canada. The reason? Because if it was based out of the US or Israel, then people wouldn't trust it!

  • Israel asks Germany to bring fugitive Nazi war criminal to justice.Klaas Carel Faber reportedly murdered more than 20 Jews at the Westerbork concentration camp, where many Dutch Jews were sent.

  • Another “Moderate” Imam and Ground Zero Mosque Supporter Can’t Bring Himself to Call Hamas a Terrorist Organization.Last night, I was on David Asman’s Fox Business Channel show, Scoreboard, debating Imam Dawoud Kringle of the New York State prison system, a GZ mosque supporter. Imam Kringle, who seems like a nice enough fellow, reeled off the usual talking points about how Islam forbids terrorism and, therefore, if someone commits an act of terrorism that act is, by definition, un-Islamic.Then came the moment of truth: the very simple question, “Is Hamas a terrorist organization?” Have a look at the YouTube clip below. Like his friend Imam Feisal Rauf, Imam Kringle won’t answer the question.

  • Skyscraper near Empire State Building wins backing.A new 67-storey skyscraper has won the approval of the New York authorities despite efforts to stop the construction by the owner of the Empire State Building. The full city council backed the 15 Penn Plaza by a 47-1 vote.More on this story, here and here.

  • Coffins Made With Brotherly Love Have Undertakers Throwing Dirt.COVINGTON, La.—Five years ago, Hurricane Katrina gave the Benedictine monks at St. Joseph Abbey a new calling. After the storm pummeled much of a pine forest they had long relied on for timber and income, the monks hatched a fresh plan: They would hand-craft and sell caskets. But now, local funeral directors are trying to put a lid on the monks' activities. The state funeral regulatory board, dominated by industry members, is enforcing a Louisiana law that makes it a crime for anyone but a licensed parlor to sell "funeral merchandise." The morticians are serious. Violators such as the monks can land in jail for up to 180 days.

  • Bermuda-sized chunk breaks off Arctic ice shelf.A huge chunk of ice about the size of Bermuda has cracked off Canada's largest remaining Arctic ice shelf. The ancient slab of ice, measuring about 50 square kilometres in area and almost 400 metres thick, broke away from the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf on Ellesmere Island's northern coast last week, the Canadian Ice Service said Wednesday."The whole northeast quarter seems to have gone," said Trudy Wohlleben, a senior ice forecaster at the service, who first noticed cracks developing on the shelf in early August. Satellite images over the last week have confirmed the huge chunk of ancient ice shelf has broken away, she says.

  • Pea sized frog found on Borneo island.Scientists have discovered a frog the size of a pea, the smallest found in Asia, Africa or Europe, on the Southeast Asian island of Borneo.Adult males of the new micro-species range in size from 10.6 and 12.8 millimeters and the pea-sized amphibian has been named Microhyla nepenthicola after the plant on Borneo on which it lives, according to taxonomy magazine Zootaxa."Scientists presumably thought they were juveniles of other species, but it turns out they are adults of this newly-discovered micro species."
