- Why Wall St. Is Deserting Obama.Daniel S. Loeb, the hedge fund manager, was one of Barack Obama’s biggest backers in the 2008 presidential campaign.A registered Democrat, Mr. Loeb has given and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democrats. Less than a year ago, he was considered to be among the Wall Street elite still close enough to the White House to be invited to a speech in Lower Manhattan, where President Obama outlined the need for a financial regulatory overhaul. So it came as quite a surprise on Friday, when Mr. Loeb sent a letter to his investors that sounded as if he were preparing to join Glenn Beck in Washington over the weekend.Read the full story here.
- The Gadsden flag. This year, Mr. McDonel began flying a yellow “Don’t Tread on Me” flag on his roof in this unincorporated area just outside Phoenix. The historic banner — which dates to 1775, when it was hoisted aboard ships during the initial days of the Revolutionary War — has been adopted by the Tea Party movement. But Mr. McDonel said that he had unfurled the flag for its historical significance and nothing else. As the flag becomes more popular — it was on prominent display on the Washington Mall last weekend during a rally organized by the conservative commentator Glenn Beck — more such disputes are expected. Already, a Colorado homeowner flying the same flag is locked in a standoff with his homeowners’ association. And in Connecticut, a group of retired Marines is challenging the Capitol Police’s decision blocking the Gadsden flag from being flown over the State Capitol.Read the full story here.

- Islamophobia-noun-The tendency to disagree with leftism. What is “Islamophobia”? If recent usage of the term is any indication of its definition, “Islamophobia” means something similar to the popular usage of “fascist” or “racist”—that is to say, it has no meaning.I’d like to quote just some recent examples from vaunted media sources. Mind you, these constitute a very small sampling of how the concept of “Islamophobia” has been used over the past few weeks. But its usage has been so consistently vapid that only a few examples will suffice.Read the full story here.
- Ideological War Spells Doom for America’s Schoolkids.Students are returning to school this week. But they’re not heading back to class — they’re walking straight into a war zone. Our kids have become cannon fodder for two rival ideologies battling to control America’s future. In one camp are conservative Christians and their champion, the Texas State Board of Education; in the other are politically radical multiculturalists and their de facto champion, President Barack Obama. The two competing visions couldn’t be more different. And the stakes couldn’t be higher. Unfortunately, whichever side wins — your kid ends up losing.Read the full story here.

There has been much news on the bedbug epidemic that is seemingly washing over the entire country. There were almost no bed bugs in the United States between World War II and the mid-1990s.Around when bed bugs started their resurgence, Congress passed a major pesticides law in 1996 and the Clinton EPA banned several classes of chemicals that had been effective bed bug killers...in the pre-1996 regime, experts say, bed bugs were “collateral damage” from broader and more aggressive use of now-banned pesticides like Malathion and Propoxur.Read the full story here.

- They Crawl, They Bite, They Baffle Scientists.Don’t be too quick to dismiss the common bedbug as merely a pestiferous six-legged blood-sucker.In comparison to other insects that bite man, or even only walk across man’s food, nibble man’s crops or bite man’s farm animals, very little is known about the creature whose Latin name means — go figure — “bug of the bed.” Only a handful of entomologists specialize in it, and until recently it has been low on the government’s research agenda because it does not transmit disease. Most study grants come from the pesticide industry and ask only one question: What kills it?But now that it’s The Bug That Ate New York, Not to Mention Other Shocked American Cities, that may change.Full story here.
