• Israel hints Jerusalem compromise in peace talks.Israel's defense minister said on Wednesday the Jewish state would be willing to hand over parts of Jerusalem in peace talks with the Palestinians to be launched by President Barack Obama.A flare-up of violence in the Palestinian West Bank and a deadlock over Jewish settlements there loom as potential deal-breakers for Obama, who will host Israeli and Palestinian leaders for dinner at the White House in Washington.Obama brought Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas together for face-to-face negotiations after months of U.S.-mediated indirect talks. • Advertising Standards Authority gets online power.The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is extending its remit to cover the online realm.It means that online marketing and ads will, from 1 March 2011, be subject to the same strict advertising rules as traditional media.The ASA will also have the power to ban marketing statements on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.Last year the body received over 3,500 complaints but over half of the adverts were outside of its remit.Full story here.

An analysis of the crop of dictators from last century showed a variety in style and how they handled manipulation of power and differences in their paths to power. Its likely a new dictator would have a different path to power.Putin is a quiet man who came from the East German KGB shadows. • Economy changing the face of homelessness in US.AJ Goode and his wife Mary lived in their car for five months before getting a room at the shelter in Los Angeles, California.Mary Goode and her husband, AJ greet each other with a kiss and dissolve into laughter. • Iranian sentenced to death by stoning for adultery 'subjected to mock execution'.An Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning was subjected to a mock execution by hanging.In preparation for her death, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani wrote her will and embraced her cellmates in Tabriz prison.But the mother-of-two, who was acquitted of murdering her husband but found guilty of adultery, was not led to the gallows.Her son told The Guardian: ‘Pressure from the international community has so far stopped them from carrying out the sentence but they’re killing her every day by any means possible.’Read the full story here.

• Legal visitors face new $14 charge starting next week.The Obama administration will begin using the latest technology to protect U.S. shores from potential illegal European immigrants Sept. 8. Furthermore, the White House will charge visitors for using the system.Just to be clear, this new law is not just for Europeans. • Fiercest hurricane in two decades coming to a coast near you!Hurricane Earl presents tremendous challenges for federal government.Hurricane Earl's most recent projected path (seen below) takes it dangerously near the East Coast of America. The National Hurricane Center has Hurricane Earl's track taking it very close to the shores of North Carolina before making a sharp eastward turn away from the U.S. Coastline. Even under current projections, in which Earl never impacts the U.S. coastline, the storm could cause substantial flooding and bring dangerous winds to the area. • Court rules police can GPS tag your car.The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled by a narrow margin that without a warrant police can sneak into your driveway at night and stick a GPS tag on your car so they can remotely monitor your travels. The 4th Amendment weeps.Curiously, the case was all about whether or not police had the right to enter the man's driveway to attach the device. A point which is likely to be appealed since there is a longstanding precedent for courts recognizing a person's reasonable expectation of privacy in their homes and in the "curtilage," a legal term meaning the area around the home.
