- FCC Chief Still Pushing Net Neutrality Without Congressional Action. With the recent midterm election and the resulting GOP tidal wave that is about to inundate Congress, many people have wondered aloud if net neutrality was dead? Well if FCC Chief Julius Genachowski has his way, net neutrality will be implemented by fiat when he has his agency simply change rules without involving congress at all. There is some speculation that Genachowski may announce his new rules in the next week, just before Congress adjourns for the Thanksgiving holiday and right when its too late for our elected officials to even discuss the matter.Genachowski may hope that releasing this controversial policy as Congress is headed home will soften the blow and give him enough time for any furor to die down and, if he’s lucky, be forgotten. Representative Fred Upton (R, Mich.), however, may not be so easily assuaged. Upton is on the upward track to leadership in the coming GOP dominated Congress and he has expressed disdain for Genachowski’s leadership of the FCC.Read the full story here.

- Obama's car tsar faces 'life ban' over bribes scandal.Steven Rattner, the hedge fund industry grandee tapped by the Obama Administration to oversee the restructuring of the car industry, should be banned from the securities industry for life for his role in a pay-to-play bribery scandal, the New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has declared.Mr Cuomo's office filed two lawsuits against Mr Rattner yesterday demanding the ban and fines of at least $26m (£16m). - Extreme cold expected during the next week.Record cold expected. The Al Gore effect as well as the testimony on Capitol Hill yesterday has caused a massive chunk of Arctic air to descend from Western Canada into the United States. How do temperatures 6o-70F degrees below average sound to folks along the Canadian border?60-70 oF = 15.6 - 21.1 oC.During the next 10-days (or more!), a hemispheric realignment of the large-scale atmospheric circulation will cause a significant decrease in temperatures over North America and Europe. If this regime reinforces itself during the next few weeks, and a negative Arctic Oscillation phase strengthens, the brutally cold temperatures will provide a dramatic reminder that winter is cold regardless of “global warming”. I anticipate plenty of fossil fuel use coming up.And Europe isn't looking much better.Hmmm....father frost is back with a vengeance.Read the full story here.
- Three Britons among the missing as New Zealand pit blast leaves 29 miners feared trapped half a mile underground.Three Britons were believed to be among 29 men at the centre of a search and rescue mission today after a huge explosion at a New Zealand coal mine left them trapped deep underground. One was said to be a Scotsman and the two others were from Yorkshire. They had been working there for over a year. The miners were entombed after a powerful gas blast struck at the Pike River Coal Mine in Atarau, on South Island, yesterday.Today the rescue operation was hampered by fears that dangerous gas could trigger a second explosion. It is not known if the miners - who have now been missing for more than 24 hours - are alive or dead.Video from the scene showed blackened trees and light smoke billowing from the top of the rugged mountain where the mine is sited. Two injured men stumbled to the surface hours after the blast shot up the 354ft (108m) ventilation shaft. They were taken to a hospital for treatment to light injuries.'They're being interviewed and we're trying to determine the full nature of the incident,' said Pike River chief executive Peter Whittall.'We can't risk sending men into the mine until we know exactly what (the quality of the gas) is.Read the full story here.
- Ayatollah Khamenei calls for support for the Muslims of Kashmir."Today the major duties of the elite of the Islamic Ummah is to provide help to the Palestinian nation and the besieged people, to sympathize and provide assistance to the nation of Kashmir, " to support the Muslim population "against aggression". This is the message sent by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme religious leader, on the occasion of the Haj pilgrimage. Indian activists and religious leaders have criticized this message as a possible incitement to fundamentalism."In India we see a rise of Islamic fundamentalism in October, a group of Muslims attacked a Christian pastor near Bangalore, a school was burned and destroyed in Kashmir after a rumor that pages of the Koran had been burned." "It is regrettable that Khamenei should make such inflammatory remarks, it is the duty of religious leaders of all religions to promote and work towards building of peace and mutual tolerance and understanding instead of sowing seeds of discord and division.”Islam the religion of peace.Read the full story here.

- HT:BigPeace. The Ground Zero Mosque Holds the Key to the Attack on America. Why did terrorists attack America on September 11, 2001? We’re a nation of 310 million freedom-loving Americans, protected by the greatest military the world has ever seen. Did Osama bin Laden really think he could conquer the U.S.A. with nineteen jihadists, wielding boxcutters?Yes. And he may very well be right. America is under siege from an enemy who doesn’t need the blitzkrieg tactics of tanks, infantry, artillery and air power. These enemy combatants use bursts of violence to terrify us; then, they smile and overwhelm us with floods of radical asylum seekers, hate preachers and Ph.D. students. When the time is right, they unleash bare-knuckled threats and intimidation, demands for special privileges, decimation of our free speech, cooption of our ruling class, and relentless legal warfare, in which they turn our own laws against us. Right now, they’re winning. In Minneapolis, blind people are left to stand around the airport, helpless and adrift, because Muslims cabdrivers won’t pick them up. Naturally, it’s the blind people’s fault, since they insist on traveling with seeing eyes dogs that the poor put-upon cabbies consider “unclean.”Hmmmm...Obama "Islam is a great religion".Read the full story here.

- Canadian military burns Russell Williams's uniform. The Canadian military has burned the uniforms, documentation and equipment of ex-colonel Russell Williams, who was convicted of murder and sexual assault.Williams's clothing was burned on Thursday at CFB Trenton, Canada's largest military base, where the former colonel worked, said Cdr Hubert Genest. The 47-year-old was sentenced last month to life in prison for two murders and two sexual assaults.Williams pleaded guilty to the murders of Marie Comeau and Jessica Lloyd.Uniforms are typically retrieved when a person leaves the Canadian military, Cdr Genest said, adding that Williams's clothing was torched because a great deal of it had the former colonel's name on it."There was no ceremony, but it was formal. We're not going to celebrate, but we're going to do it right. Everything's accounted for," Cdr Genest told the Toronto Sun newspaper.Williams, who once served as the pilot for Queen Elizabeth II, also admitted in October to a string of burglaries, in which he stole women's underwear and saved pictures on a hard drive of himself wearing the undergarments.Source.
- HT:CarolineGlick.‘Not One More Brick’ for Jews.US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton must have given Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu quite a reception. Otherwise it is hard to understand what possessed him to accept the deal he accepted when he met with her last week.Under the deal, Netanyahu agreed to retroactively extend the Jewish construction ban ended on September 26 and to carry it forward an additional 90 days.Clinton’s demand was “Not one more brick” for Jews, meaning, no Jew will be allowed to lay even one more brick on a home he is lawfully building even as the US funds massive Palestinian construction projects. The magnitude of this discriminatory infringement on the property rights of law abiding citizens is breathtaking.Netanyahu made a horrible deal with Clinton.Leaders like Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya’alon have acted as patriots by actively opposing it. It is true that the Obama administration could help us if it wanted to. But it doesn’t want to. Happily, Israel has the power to help itself, if it dares.Read the full story here.
- And now for something completely different.Vikings Possibly Carried Native American to Europe.Medieval texts suggest the Vikings arrived in the New World more than 1,000 years ago.The first Native American to arrive in Europe may have been a woman brought to Iceland by the Vikings more than 1,000 years ago, a study by Spanish and Icelandic researchers suggests. The findings boost widely-accepted theories, based on Icelandic medieval texts and a reputed Viking settlement in Newfoundland in Canada, that the Vikings reached the American continent several centuries before Christopher Columbus traveled to the "New World."Spain's CSIC scientific research institute said genetic analysis of around 80 people from a total of four families in Iceland showed they possess a type of DNA normally only found in Native Americans or East Asians.Read the full story here.
