• Syria slams referendum law.Syria criticizes recently approved bill requiring national referendum endorsement for Israeli withdrawal from Golan Heights, east Jerusalem; new law 'will not change fact Golan is occupied Syrian land,' Damascus says. Syria said Tuesday the Knesset decision to approve a bill that would require a referendum before any Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights or east Jerusalem constitutes contempt of international law.A Syrian Foreign Ministry source responded to the bill, saying to the official Syrian news agency SANA, "The (Knesset) decision amounts to contempt of international law and the position and desire of the entire international community, which confirmed in the past and still maintains that east Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan Heights are occupied Arab territory." • Eye on Terrorism: ‘US-based group working to establish caliphate’.KARACHI: Pakistan’s security czar has revealed that an extremist group of US citizens of Pakistani origin – Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee) – has been clandestinely working to establish an Islamic caliphate system in the world.“Imad Riaz, a Pakistani-origin official of the Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee), was extradited by the US authorities to Pakistan on November 19,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik told journalists during a visit to the Anti-Human Smuggling Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Karachi.Malik added that intelligence officials were interrogating Riaz and that the US and Saudi Arabia were also helping in the investigation process.According to FIA sources, Riaz disclosed during interrogation that he was associated with California-based Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee), which was working secretly to establish an Islamic caliphate system in the world.He also revealed that their group was planning to attack US military installations in California. • 'We hate obese passengers and people with personal hygiene issues:' Now 'abused' TSA staff vent their anger at patdown searches.Furious security staff today hit back at pat down searches in airports across America, claiming that they hated dealing with obese travellers and those with personal hygiene problems.As millions of people prepared to travel for Thanksgiving, passenger backlash was growing against the measures introduced by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).But after being contacted by a travel blog, 17 security staff came forward to express their disgust at the policy put in place last month.They said that they hated having to carry out body searches, with one claiming that it was worse for him than the passenger.'It is not comfortable to come to work knowing full well that my hands will be feeling another man’s private parts, their butt, their inner thigh,' one told the BoardingArea blog.'Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!'Hmmm...that's why they grope kids??Read the full story here.

• Obama Administration Buys One in Four Hybrids as Consumer Market Slumps.President Barack Obama's administration has bought almost a fourth of the Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. hybrid vehicles sold since he took office, accelerating federal purchases as consumer demand wanes.The U.S. General Services Administration, which runs the government fleet, bought at least 14,584 hybrid vehicles in the past two fiscal years, or about 10 percent of 145,473 vehicles the agency purchased in that period, according to sales data obtained by Bloomberg under a Freedom of Information Act request. In fiscal 2008, hybrids accounted for less than 1 percent of government purchases, the data showed.The government is boosting investment in a technology that has failed to win broad acceptance after more than a decade in the marketplace. Consumer sales of hybrids are headed for their third consecutive yearly decline. • Assembly Pushes to Oust Iran President.Iran's parliament revealed it planned to impeach President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but refrained under orders from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, exposing a deepening division within the regime.Lawmakers also launched a new petition to bring a debate on the president's impeachment, conservative newspapers reported Monday.The reports of challenges to Mr. Ahmadinejad were intended as retorts to a powerful body of clerics that urged Mr. Khamenei to curb the parliament's authority and give greater clout to the President. They accused him and his government of 14 counts of violating the law, often by acting without the approval of the legislature. • Fears rise of pre-Christmas al Qaeda terror attack in Europe after ten suspects arrested.Fears are rising across Europe of an al-Qaeda outrage before Christmas as intelligence services work frantically to track down radicalised western nationals returning from terror camps in Pakistan.Ten suspects holding Belgian, Dutch, Moroccan and Russian passports were arrested in Belgium, Germany and Holland.Prosecutors spoke of a complex plot involving an 'international Islamist group' in Belgium although a specific target was not identified.The feeling among intelligence services is that al-Qaeda is prepared to 'go for broke' with a bloodbath before Christmas using westerners who have converted to Islam to avoid detection at air and seaports.Two scenarios are on the table; a Mumbai-style massacre using automatic weapons stored at safe houses or suicide bomb attacks using explosives also stored among radicals within the country’s massive Muslim population.Tuesday‘s raids - which have almost certainly prevented death and destruction in Belgium - were not linked to the Jihadists currently at loose in Germany.'The suspects were using a jihadi website to plan an attack on an unspecified target in Belgium,' police said.Germans are facing the prospect of seeing armed troops on the streets for the first time since Hitler’s armies were destroyed in WW2 as police leaders tell politicians they cannot contain the mounting terror threat alone.Klaus Jansen, head of the Professional Police Association, said; “We must assume that the exceptional circumstances for police through the acute terror danger will last long into the next year.'Law enforcement personnel alone will not be capable of sustaining that level of protection.' • NBC Names Ground Zero Mosque Developer a "Person of the Year". NBC and its affiliates have been trounced in ratings over the last several years. With stations like MSNBC under their belt and liberals such as Matt Lauer and Keith Olbermann hosting programs, NBC is clearly disconnected with the average American. Another clear sign of their mismanagement: naming Sharif El-Gamal, developer of the Ground Zero Mosque, one of their "People of the Year."In an interview set to air on Thanksgiving Day, Matt Lauer sat down with El-Gamal and discussed the "Park 51 Project." El-Gamal, who was apparently pleased to be named one of NBC's people of the year, seemed very comfortable answering questions. The excerpt released so far shows that Mr. Lauer gave El-Gamal a decidedly softball interview. Here is a partial transcript of El-Gamal's opening statements:"There's going to be a facility here that's going to provide aquatics, uh, uh, uh, a gym, just like a Jewish community center or, or a YMCA. It's going to provide, uh, much needed facilities to the residents of Lower Manhattan."Lauer responds that there is "one major exception" to El-Gamal's statement, describing the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Arrests in Europe 'terror plot' .Officials arrest 10 suspects in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany for allegedly plotting an attack.Ten people have been detained by police in three European countries for allegedly plotting an attack in Belgium, officials have said.A spokesman for the country's federal prosecutors office said in a statement that the suspects were arrested in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany on Tuesday, as part of "an inquiry into international jihadist terror"."In total 10 people suspected of preparing an attack in Belgium were arrested in Belgium, Holland and Germany," the statement said.The target of the plot had "not been determined yet" when the raids took place.The statement added that the suspects are from Belgium, the Netherlands, Morocco and Chechnya. Most are said to live in the Belgian city of Antwerp.The arrests followed a months-long investigation launched by authorities in Antwerp in late 2009. • Pakistan: Blasphemy case | Zardari warned not to grant pardon.Sahibzada Fazl Karim, a representative of Barelvi seminaries, said his organisation would stage demonstrations across the country. “It would be too much if the woman is set free. Death is the only punishment for a person who commits blasphemy.”In an unprecedented move, top Deobandi and Barelvi clerics joined hands to warn President Asif Ali Zardari against granting a discretionary pardon to a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy, saying that the decision may trigger adverse reaction.“I advise him (Zardari) not to take a hasty decision under foreign pressure,” Qari Hanif Jallundari, who represents the Deobandi school of thought, told The Express Tribune by phone from Lahore. “Such a decision will lead to untoward repercussions,” he added.Hanif’s Wafaqul Madaris Al Arabia (WMA) is an umbrella organisation which leads more than 12,000 seminaries across Pakistan, mostly in Punjab, where many people accused of blasphemy have usually lost lives at the hands of religious zealots. An organisation which wields control over Barelvi seminaries has also joined the Deobandis in a bid to change the president’s decision which, they think, he has already taken. • 'Alarming' escalation in Yemen fighting near Saudi.The UN refugee agency on Tuesday warned of an "alarming escalation" in fighting in northern Yemen close to the border with Saudi Arabia despite a nine-month ceasefire.The office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said local aid agencies and eyewitnesses including displaced people reported that clashes between Shiite Huthi rebels and pro-government tribes erupted in remote northwestern Sa'ada province on November 13."At least 20 people have been killed reportedly and others wounded over the past 10 days in the worst violence in northern Yemen since the signing of the cease fire in February," UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic said."This is an alarming escalation," Mahecic told journalists, "UNHCR adds its voice to that of the local mediation committee in calling for calm and protection of the civilian population."Read the full story here.
