Iran - IRGC Commander: 450 battalions ready to defend Iran from enemies.(TI).Some 450 battalions were established to provide comprehensive defense in case of an attack on Iran, commander of Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jafari said, Mehr reported. The 450 "Imam Huseyn" battalions were trained by the IRGC, and underwent heavy training and preparations for the possible invasion. "While the enemies know about Iran's military power, and cannot attack, we are ready to defend ourselves," Jafari noted. Jafari did not disclose the strength of each IRGC (“Imam Hossein”) battalion. Typically, a battalion in modern armies consists of some 500-1000 soldiers, commanded by an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Gen. Jafari also said that female Basij battalions have also been formed to be activated in case of a national emergency. Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami yesterday said that Iran is ready to stand against International military coalition headed by the United States.
