Iran - IRGC to Exercise Urban Defense against soft, cyber and security threats in Capital.(Fars).TEHRAN - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plans to exercise defense tactics against soft, cyber and security threats in massive urban defense exercises in the capital, Tehran, in coming days. Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Tuesday, Commander of Tehran's Corps General Mohsen Kazzemeini said that the three-day maneuver, codenamed 'Towards Beitol-Moghaddas (Jerusalem)', will take place in response to the recent soft and security threats against the country. "The drills will include confrontation against soft, cyber, armed and unarmed security threats, air assaults as well as enemy hard threats,' Kazzemeini said, adding that 150 IRGC battalions will participate in the drills due to start in Tehran tomorrow.
According to Kazzemeini, 10 bases will be in charge of the command-and-control in the drills. Meantime, the commander strongly rejected foreign media speculations about a link between the drills and the upcoming presidential election due to be held in the country next year. "The drills are for confronting foreign and Zionists' threats," he noted. Israel and its close ally the United States accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon, while they have never presented any corroborative document to substantiate their allegations. Both Washington and Tel Aviv possess advanced weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear warheads. Iran vehemently denies the charges, insisting that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
