Video - Iran unveiled new indigenous fighter jet Qaher-313 (Winner-313).(TI).The Iranian Defense Ministry has announced that the country unveiled a new advanced fighter aircraft. IRIBNEWS reported. The domestically-designed and developed fighter jet, codenamed Qaher-313 (Winner-313), was put on display on Saturday on the occasion of the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations commemorating the victory of 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of high-ranking military officials attended the unveiling ceremony.
Iranian Defence Miniter Ahmad Vahidi said that Qaher-313 is advanced fighter jet.
The fighter jet is said to be similar to the US-built F/A-18, although its appearance looks similar to F-5E/F Tiger II.
According to him, new single-seat bomber will have the ability to track down enemy aircraft, engage in combat, target locations on the ground, and carry a payload of assorted weapons and ammunition.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.
Azarakhsh (lightning) is Iran's first domestically-manufactured combat jet.
Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jet is a follow up aircraft, derived from the Azarakhsh. Iran unveiled its first squadron of Saeqeh fighter-bombers in an air show in September 2010.
Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially regional neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
Media quoted Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi as saying the plane boasted a very low radar signature, and that "advanced materials" were used to build it.
As regards the specification of Qaher 313, the minister said, "The advanced aircraft with an advanced appearance has a very small Radar Cross Section (RCS) and is capable of operating and flying in low-altitude."
Vahidi noted that Qaher 313 enjoys high combat capability and can carry home-made weapons. Vahidi also told reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony that Qaher 313 is able to rival with the most advanced fighter jets in shape and structure. He said, without elaborating, that it is also equipped with "advanced electro-avionics systems." Vahidi said the plane could land on short runways and will "meet the needs of the Iranian air force." The Islamic republic is subject to a US embargo which prohibits it from buying new fighter jets and spare parts for its aging air force, much of which is of American origin and was bought in a huge pre-revolution spending spree.Read and see Video's and foto's the full story here.
