"Sharia Law 101" - Saudi sentenced to paralysis after paralyzing friend .(BI).A Saudi man who caused the paralysis of his friend has been sentenced to be paralyzed himself, the Saudi Gazette reported.
Ali Al-Khawahir stabbed his friend 10 years ago paralyzing him and will himself be paralyzed if he fails come up with SAR1m as compensation, the newspaper reported.
The original amount sought was SAR2m from Al-Khawahir who has been in jail since the age of 14 when he stabbed his friend.
This type of eye-for-an-eye punishment comes from the code of Hammurabi, a legendary Mesopotamian king who ruled the Babylonian Empire from 1792-1750 B.C.E."An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth" was one of 282 laws inscribed on a stone pillar.
