DAMASCUS: Following moves by Russia to have Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons placed under international control, representatives for terror group al-Qaeda working inside Syria this afternoon offered their help in looking after the deadly arsenal.

“It’s the least we can do,” said Abu Omar of the Ahrar Dimashq Battalion, an al-Qaeda linked group that has been fighting alongside Syrian rebels against Assad’s government since 2011. “We’re all in this together; us, Russia, the USA, France, everyone. We really want to do our bit.”

Omar added that the rebel group were “perfectly placed” to help out. “Well, we’re already in Syria now,” he said. “And we know Obama’s issue with having boots on the ground, so we can just go and get the chemical weapons ourselves and save any foreign military or inspection team the expense or trouble. Honestly, we’re happy to help out our allies in the West.”

While there hasn’t yet been an official response, a source from the Kremlin said the offer was “very kind”.
