Remains of Furry sea creature washed up on Far East Sakhalin Island.

Remains of Furry sea creature washed up on Far East Sakhalin Island. (Siberiantimes).

With fur on its tail and twice the size of a human being, no one yet knows what the animal is.

The remains of an unidentified sea animal with fur on its tail have been washed ashore in the Far East. Found near the airport at Shakhtersk, on Sakhalin Island, its appearance is unlike anything ever found in Russia.

Judging from the remains the creature was giant and about twice the length of a human, and it had a huge nose like a bird’s beak.

Some have claim the remains belong to a Ganges River dolphin from India, because of the long body and narrow beak nose. But the presence of fur on the tail and also its size – twice that of the Indian dolphin species – has created a mystery.

Comments on some pictures on social media joke that the animal got lost and somehow made it to Russia. One wrote: 'Probably, our summer is so cold that even the Indian Dolphins getting into local waters, are covered with fur.'

But one expert insisted it simply is not possible for a fresh water Ganges dolphin to make it to the Far East, and survive in the salty ocean.

Nikolay Kim, Deputy Head of the Forecasting department of the Sakhalin Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography, said: 'Judging by the appearance of the head, this is clearly some big dolphin. According to a characteristic of the skin, it is a rare species.

'I doubt that it lived in our waters. Most likely, the animal was brought by the warm current. Here often appear tropical and subtropical species. On cooling, they stay here and then die.

'I can confidently say that this is some kind of a dolphin. However, it has fur. It's unusual. Dolphins do not have any fur.' Hmmmm........There are many unknown creatures swimming in the oceans.

Sinabung volcano (Sumatra, Indonesia): Update; nearby Super volcano Toba showing signs of activity.

Sinabung volcano (Sumatra, Indonesia): lava lobe destroyed, but dome growing bigger; nearby Super volcano Toba showing signs of activity. (VolcanoDiscovery).

The lava dome at the volcano's summit continues to grow at a rate of approx 100,000 cubic meters per day. Small to moderate pyroclastic flows during the past week have mostly removed the viscous lobe on the upper southeast flank.

As lava continues to accumulate at the dome itself, more pyroclastic flows are likely to occur in the near future. Authorities are considering extending the exclusion zone in the southern sector.

The alert level of the volcano was again raised from "siaga" to "awas", the highest on the Indonesian 1-4 scale. The reason is a currently elevated risk of possibly larger pyroclastic flows, that could be triggered by collapse of the increasing volume of the viscous lava lobe emplaced on the upper SE flank.

The alert level of the volcano had been at 4 during late Nov 2013 until April 2014,- the first and so far most violent phase of pyroclastic flow generation after the lava had spilled over the summit crater and built a large lobe that reached the base of the cone.

In addition to the large eruption at Mount Sinabung, we now have other reports that the nearby Toba supervolcano is showing large emissions of steam (from the ground), as well as foul smelling gas.

According to reports from Indonesian press, locals are alarmed by these recent developments.

Toba supervolcano is indeed a “super-volcano” by all measurements. Actually LARGER in eruptive power to the other more well known “Yellowstone” super volcano (located in Wyoming / United States).

Worthy to note, the Toba caldera produced the worlds largest eruption in the past 2 million years, and has not showed eruptive signs in over 75,000 years.

Toba is located near the Sumatra Fracture Zone (SFZ). Stratovolcanoes in Sumatra are part of the Sunda arc. Volcanism is the result of the subduction of the Indian Ocean plate under the Eurasian plate.(See pic left).

From Oregon state University:

Comparison of volumes produced by some of the greatest volcanic eruptions. The Young Toba Tuff has an estimated volume of 2,800 cubic kilometers (km) and was erupted about 74,000 years ago. The Huckleberry Ridge Tuff, erupted at Yellowstone 2.2 million years ago, has a volume of 2,500 cubic km. The Lava Creek Tuff, erupted at Yellowstone 600,000 years ago, has a volume of 1,000 cubic km. The May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens produced 1 cubic km of ash. Not shown is the Fish Canyon Tuff of the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The Fish Canyon Tuff was erupted 27.8 million years ago and has an estimated volume of 3,000 cubic km.

“Toba caldera produced the largest eruption in the last 2 million years. The caldera is 18 x 60 miles (30 by 100 km) and has a total relief of 5,100 feet (1700 m).

The caldera probably formed in stages. Large eruptions occurred 840,000, about 700,000, and 75,000 years ago. The eruption 75,000 years ago produced the Young Toba Tuff. The Young Toba Tuff was erupted from ring fractures that surround most or all of the present-day lake. “

quote volcano discovery:

“About 74,000 years BP, more than 2500 cubic kilometers of magma were erupted. The eruption led to the final formation of one of earths largest calderas, the 35×100 km wide Toba caldera. Eruptions of this size are exptremely rare and are called supervolcano-eruptions. T

The Toba caldera is in fact the Earth’s largest Quaternary caldera.

It was formed during four major Pleistocene ignimbrite-producing eruptions beginning at 1.2 million years ago and culminating with the colossal Young Toba Tuff (YTT) eruption about 74,000 years ago. The YTT emplaced about 2500-3000 cu km (dense rock equivalent) of ignimbrite and airfall ash from vents at the NW and SE ends of present-day Lake Toba.” Hmmmm...........You know that long planned holiday...Maybe now is a good time to take it.

Video - Apple minivan testbed caught on tape.....Again.

Now, another new video of one of Apple’s mysterious minivans has been posted by Apple Insider, and it shows the vehicle in even greater detail. We can also get an even better look at the van’s roof-mounted rig, which appears to be equipped with a number of cameras. The exact purpose of the rig remains unknown, but it is believed to be related to an autonomous driving system Apple is currently developing. Hmmm......I'll stick with the 300 :) Read the full story here.

Video: Southern Israel Resident Protests Gaza Rockets With ‘Manure Bucket Challenge’

Video: Southern Israel Resident Protests Gaza Rockets With ‘Manure Bucket Challenge’ HT: Matzav.
An Israeli living close to the Gaza Strip, has posted a YouTube video expressing his frustration over the seeming  inability of the Israeli government to end 14 years of rocket fire from the coastal enclave, in a noxious parody of the famed ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

I want to raise awareness for the residents of the Gaza-envelope area,” Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak resident Sa’ar Altman said in the video, standing in the community’s cowsheds - just before he signaled to a backhoe behind him to dump a shovel’s worth of soaked cow manure all over him.

“I challenge ‘Bibi’ [Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu], [Foreign Minister Avigdor] Lieberman and [Economy Minister Naftali] Bennett, who think that we can use force to solve the problems of the south without a long-term solution. Because of this approach, we have been eating c**p for 14 years and our lives are hell!”

“Whoa - how disgusting - it’s dripping in!” he shouted after the backhoe soiled him with its muddy load. Hmmm......For once i'm speechless.

High level Yahoo female Executive Sued for Sexual Harassment

Maria Zhang, Founder and CEO of Alike

Yahoo female Executive Sued for Sexual Harassment. (NDTv)
A high-level woman Yahoo Inc executive has been sued in California by a woman who worked under her and is accusing her former boss of sexual harassment and wrongful termination.
Maria Zhang, a senior director of engineering at Yahoo Mobile, has been sued by Nan Shi, who worked as a principal software engineer in Yahoo from February 2013, according to a complaint filed on July 8 in Santa Clara Superior Court in San Jose, California.

The complaint alleges that Zhang coerced Shi to have oral and digital sex with her on multiple occasions in Sunnyvale, California, and told her she would have a "bright future" at Yahoo if she had sex with Zhang.

Shi is seeking monetary as well as punitive damages. The lawsuit also names Yahoo as a defendant.

"There is absolutely no basis or truth to the allegations against Maria Zhang. Maria is an exemplary Yahoo executive and we intend to fight vigorously to clear her name," a Yahoo representative said in an email.Read the full story here.

Nessie finally Spotted? Apple maps satellite image spots 'creature swimming' below surface of Loch Ness.

Nessie finally Spotted? Apple maps satellite image spots 'creature swimming' below surface of Loch Ness.(mirror).

The photographs were captured by two different amateur Nessie hunters scanning different satellites on their iPhone and iPads

State of the art sonar equipment, a yellow submarine and even a white witch have all been used to try to find the elusive Loch Ness Monster.

But it seems all you really need to track Nessie down is an IPHONE.

Mysterious images taken from space are making waves with Nessie fans – as they appear to show a creature swimming in the world’s most famous loch.

The pictures were captured separately by two amateur hunters, Peter Thain and Andy Dixon, as they used an iPhone satellite map app.

It had been feared the 1,500-year legend was over after 18 months without a recognised sighting, but now enthusiasts’ hopes have been raised again.

Andy, of County Durham, said: “It was by accident I came across it. I could see something big under the water and I saved it to my phone. My first thought was that it was the monster.”

Breakthrough over 600-year-old mystery Voynich manuscript.

SOURCE

Breakthrough over 600-year-old mystery Voynich manuscript. (BBC).
A breakthrough has been made in attempts to decipher a mysterious 600-year-old manuscript written in an unknown language, it has been claimed.
The Voynich Manuscript, carbon-dated to the 1400s, was rediscovered in 1912, but has defied codebreakers since.

Now, Bedfordshire University’s Stephen Bax says he has deciphered 10 words, which could lead to more discoveries.

In June last year, Marcelo Montemurro, a theoretical physicist from the University of Manchester, UK, published a study which he believes shows that the manuscript was unlikely to be a hoax.

Dr Montemurro and a colleague, using a computerised statistical method to analyse the text, found that it followed the structure of "real languages".

In February this year, a paper published in the journal of the American Botanical Council said one of the plant drawings suggested a possible Mexican origin for the manuscript.Read the full story here.
