Khamenei appoints new Supreme National Security Council secretary: Ali Shamkhani.
Khamenei appoints new Supreme National Security Council secretary: Ali Shamkhani.(Taz).
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has appointed Ali Shamkhani as his representative in Iran's Supreme National Security Council for next three years, Iranian State IRINN TV reported.
Ali Shamkhani who is a former commander of the IRGC navy has been appointed as new secretary of Supreme National Security Council by President Hassan Rouhani, yesterday.
Rouhani was the former representative of Khamenei in the Council.
Khameni also appointed the former Secretary of SNSC Saeed Jalili as a member of the Expediency Council of the Islamic Republic.
According to the law, Iran's president is the head of SNSC.
Shamkhani who served as the Minister of Defense from August 1997 to August 2005 in the government of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami is also a military advisor to Khamenei, and director of Iranian Armed Forces' Center for Strategic Studies.
The new Supreme National Security Council secretary is not as soft on Israel and the United States.
During his years as minister, Shamkhani took every opportunity to send threats to Washington and Tel Aviv when possible strikes on Iran were discussed.
As he steps into his new role, Shamkhani will work on drawing the country’s national security priorities with the help of the IRGC and the president, under the supervision of Khamenei.
The main two points he will be working on are nuclear negotiations and the Syrian crisis.
As for the first, the new administration gave the Foreign Ministry the green light to start meetings and negotiations, taking it out of the Supreme National Security Council's hands — though a decision was announced two days ago that stated the council would draw green, yellow and red lines. Hmmm.......Sounds like another 'real moderate'.
