The leader of Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev, says the Russian authorities are registering males and a massive conscription into the Russian army is to start on Jan. 1.

“It is clear the Tatars will refuse to serve in the Russian army,” he said.

The Russians are just looking for an excuse to banish the Tatars from Crimea,” he said.
