Turkish court bans Facebook and Twitter over MİT truck case. (Bugun).
A Turkish court ordered a ban on accessing several websites, including Twitter and Facebook, just one day after details concerning a 2014 gendarmerie raid of a truck belonging to Turkish intelligence, suspected of carrying weapons to Syria, was leaked online.
A Twitter account @LazepeM published written proceedings on Tuesday night related to search and seizure of National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks in January of last year based on suspicions they were carrying weapons to Syria.
The Hürriyet daily claimed on Wednesday that a Turkish court ordered the closure of all websites which published the proceedings, including social media networks Facebook and Twitter.
Soon after the leak and outcry, a Turkish court ordered the closure of all websites which published the proceedings, including Twitter and Facebook in the country, the Hürriyet daily reported on Wednesday.
However, the daily also reported that since Twitter has already suspended the account which published the proceedings, the ban may not be applied on Twitter.
Turkish authorities are now waiting the websites in question to delete their content related to the proceedings, daily has reported. They will reportedly be closed down if they refuse to delete the content on the proceedings.
Previously, the “Gri Hat” news website's offices were raided by Turkish police last October, related to the news organization's allegations of government corruption and the National Intelligence Organization's (MİT) trucks, stopped at the border and suspected to be carrying weapons to extremist groups fighting against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.
On Jan 19 of 2014, Turkish gendarmerie forces intercepted three Syria-bound trucks on suspicion of arms shipment in the southern province of Adana. More here.
