Egypt repeats call on Interpol to arrest fugitive Muslim Brotherhood members in Qatar, Turkey - Yusuf Qaradawi among them.

Egypt repeats call on Interpol to arrest fugitive Muslim Brotherhood members in Qatar, Turkey - Yusuf Qaradawi among them. (AlAhram).

Egypt has notices to Interpol calling for the arrest of fugitive members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group who are currently residing in Qatar and Turkey, state-run MENA news agency reported, citing a security source.
The security source told MENA that Cairo has sent Interpol a list of fugitives wanted in Egypt for criminal investigations or have been convicted in criminal cases.
The list includes spiritual leader of the Brotherhood Youssef El-Qaradawi, Islamist preacher Wagdi Ghonem, former investment minister Yehia Hamed, former prime minister Hesham Qandil, leading Gamaa Al-Islamiya figure Tarek El-Zomor, Al-Jazeera presenter Ahmed Mansour and Brotherhood youth figure Ahmed El-Moghier.
The list also includes Al-Jazeera political analysts Mohamed El-Gawadi and Mohamed El-Qudoussi, journalists Wael Kandil, Alaa Sadeq, Ramy Jan and Selim Azouz, as well as MB leader Ayman Abdel-Ghani, who Cairo says is the mastermind behind the Kataeb Helwan militant group in southern Cairo.
Since 2014, Egypt has repeatedly called for the arrest of fugitive Muslim Brotherhood members being sheltered in Turkey and Qatar.
Early last month, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE severed diplomatic ties and cut transport links with Qatar in an unprecedented move to isolate the Gulf state over Doha's alleged supporting and financing of terrorist groups.
The Arab countries have presented Qatar with a 13-point list of demands, including that Doha hand over wanted individuals being harboured in Qatar.
The list of demands also includes cutting ties with Iran, halting support for groups such as Hezbollah and Daesh, and shutting down Al-Jazeera TV channel, as well as providing detailed information to the four countries on opposition figures from each of the countries who have received support from Qatar.
Qatar initially announced its rejection of the demands, though it has recently announced that it is ready to negotiate.

Qatar is making a grave mistake by seeking assistance from opportunistic strangers with their own ideological axes to grind.

Qatar is making a grave mistake by seeking assistance from opportunistic strangers with their own ideological axes to grind.(Gulfnews).

Non-Arab countries are pouring oil on troubled Arabian Gulf waters. Foreign interference will only widen the rift between three Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Qatar, complicating chances of reconciliation. “We believe this issue can be dealt with among the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council,” said Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir.
Unfortunately, Qatar’s emir is making a grave mistake by seeking assistance from opportunistic strangers with their own ideological axes to grind.
This is indeed the greatest crisis faced by the GCC but it can be swiftly resolved provided Doha agrees to stop funding armed extremists, harbouring Muslim Brotherhood criminals, disseminating radical ideology via its media outlets — and, most importantly, ending its cosy, back-door dealings with Iran and its proxies.
Accusations against Qatar are supported by hard evidence; its denials do not ring true.
The fact that the Muslim Brotherhood supporter President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is rushing to Qatar’s defence speaks volumes. “There are those who are uncomfortable with us standing by our Qatari brothers… We will continue to give Qatar every kind of support,” Erdogan said adding that he has not “seen Qatar give support to terror.”
Offering sustenance on humanitarian grounds is one thing; dispatching up to 5,000 Turkish soldiers to protect the ruling family is a major provocation.
“Turkish troops are coming to Qatar for the sake of the security of the entire region,” announced Qatar’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, who has denounced the demands issued by Saudi Arabia and its allies as interference in the foreign policy of a sovereign state.
Not so. Qatar’s domestic policies are not at issue, but it is incumbent upon all Gulf states to unify against common enemies. There can be no business as usual if one is covertly pulling in the opposite direction undermining its partners’ efforts.
Shaikh Mohammad alludes to regional envy as the cause of Qatar’s isolation. “We have been isolated because we are successful and progressive,” he maintained. That is laughable.
If that were true there are other GCC states worthier of a cold shoulder. He’s verbally laid out a welcome mat for Turkish troops. “We will never surrender,” he has pledged when all Doha is required to do is surrender its dubious beneficiaries.
As they say, birds of a feather stick together. Ankara’s policies in the region are as suspect as Qatar’s. Turkey was once a way station for European radicals heading to Syria and Iraq. Wounded Daesh fighters were treated in Turkish hospitals and freely crossed over from Syria to purchase supplies.
In October, 2014, Germany’s Deputy Speaker Claudia Roth said Turkey’s “dealings with Isis [Daesh] are unacceptable. Also that Isis [Daesh] has been able to sell its oil via Turkey is extraordinary.”
Al Akhbar divulged that “Isil [Daesh] regularly sells crude it obtains from Iraqi and Syrian oil wells to Turkey through some Qatari middlemen.” Russia released satellite images showing oil tankers crossing into Turkish territory.
The Turkish government should be careful that the international community’s accusatory pendulum does not swing in its direction. Its relations with the EU are fragile over human rights and free speech violations and tensions between Ankara and Washington are at their highest over America arming of Kurdish fighters in Syria.
The leaders of Qatar and Turkey should read the tea leaves. The days when their powerful western friends with benefits turned a blind eye to their disreputable dealings are receding now that terrorists are spilling blood throughout Europe. The fact that Turkey is a member of Nato and Qatar hosts US Central Command will not give them an eternal free pass.
Astonishingly, or perhaps not, Iran has shown its ‘benevolence’ by designating three of its southern ports for use by its apparent friend Qatar and flying in plane loads of supplies. Would it have been so generous had another Gulf state found itself in a similar predicament? Iran’s prime goal is to cause division throughout the Arab world.
Mixed messages from the Pentagon and the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson initially caused confusion. However, President Donald Trump reaffirmed his zero tolerance policy on terrorism, thereby clarifying the US stance in no uncertain terms.
He accused Qatar of historically funding “terrorism at a very high level”. Referring to talks with Arab heads of state in Riyadh, “We had a decision to make,” he said. “Do we take the easy road or do we take a hard but necessary action?” He confirmed that his Secretary of State and military generals had concurred with him that “the time has come for Qatar to end its funding” and “extremist ideology”.
Qatar’s ruler would be wise to think long term. Aligning with adversaries, pariah states and a fair-weather friend like Moscow may shut the door leading to a peaceful resolution for the foreseeable future. Hopefully he will silence his combative foreign minister who appears bent on escalation, do what is right and re-embrace the ties of blood shared by all GCC member states sooner rather than later.

Qatar needs to stop 'playing a double game and' funding Islamists: Dennis Ross.

Qatar needs to stop 'playing a double game and' funding Islamists: Dennis Ross. (usatoday).

President Trump is looking anew at American allies and partners. While saying he will preserve these relationships, he wants them to pay their fair share and uphold their side of the relationship. Whether it is South Korea or Saudi Arabia, they are subject to his calls for them to contribute more and defray our costs in deploying forces to defend them. Burden-sharing is not a new concept, but he is placing a premium on it.

It is an important measure, and it should be given greater weight, but it must also be kept in perspective. Consider that one country that would do well on this measure is Qatar. Qatar permitted us to build and operate a massive air base, al-Udeid, and has helped meet the costs of operation. From al-Udeid, the U.S. conducts all coalition air operations for the entire region — from Afghanistan to Syria. It is a critical base for protecting our national security interests in the Middle East, and viewed from this perspective alone, one might judge Qatar to be an American ally.

However, allies at a minimum share our interests, support our basic policies, and see common enemies. They don’t give support, especially material support, to those who threaten our interests and the interests and well-being of our friends and partners. By this measure, Qatar is most definitely not an ally. Few countries have done more to promote the Muslim Brotherhood, including its Palestinian offshoot Hamas, than Qatar.

The mindset and beliefs of the Brotherhood-affiliated preacher, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who resides in Qatar and conveys his views on a weekly show on the network Al Jazeera. Qaradawi, who is anti-American and considers all attacks against Israeli civilians to be legitimate, is especially pernicious because his weekly guidance on how to live as a good Muslim has produced a large following in the region. Qatar can only have it both ways so long as we permit it.Read the full story here.

Nusra (AlQaeda) commander in Syria: Obama 'Admin' supporting us…but not enough.

Nusra (AlQaeda) commander in Syria: Obama 'Admin' supporting us…but not enough. (almasdarnews).

A high-ranking commander of the al-Qaeda branch in Syria revealed that the United States indirectly supports rebel forces fighting Assad government in Syria, Kölner Stadtanzeiger newspaper reported.

"The U.S. support the opposition, but not directly. They support the countries which support us.

But we are not yet satisfied with this support. They should support us with highly developed weapons.

We have won battles thanks to the "TOW" missiles. We reached a balance with the regime through these missiles. We received the tanks from Libya through Turkey.

Also the "BMs" - multiple rocket launchers", Abu al-Ezz, the jihadi commander, told reporter Jürgen Todenhöfer.

To whom did the U.S. hand those missiles before they were brought to you? Were those missiles first given to the Free Syrian Army by the U.S. and from there to you?

No, the missiles were give directly to us. They were delivered to a certain group. When the "road" was closed and we were besieged we had officers here from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States.

What did those officers do?
Experts! Experts for the use of satellites, missiles, reconnaissance work, thermal surveillance cameras ...

Were there also American experts?

Yes, experts from several countries.

Including Americans?

Yes. The Americans are on our side, but not as it should be. For example we were told: We must capture and conquer "Battalion 47". Saudi Arabia gave us 500 million Syrian pounds. For taking the "al-Muslimiya" infantry school years ago we received from Kuwait 1.5 million Kuwaiti dinar and from Saudi Arabia 5 million U.S. dollars.

From the governments or from private persons?

From the governments.

Interestingly, the al-Nusra Front commander also mentioned the UN aid convoy. Keep in mind that Todenhöfer, the first Western journalist to be granted access to Daesh's caliphate, conducted the interview ten day ago, before the attack.Read the full story here.
