The Times reports that the next President of the European Commission may well be Martin Schultz, a rabid German socialist.
He has been described as having all the charm and good judgment of the Third Reich. Silvio Berlusconi thought he resembled a concentration camp commandant. In his memoirs, Ashley Mote described him as a “look-and-sound-alike latter-day Hitler”.
If the present incumbent, the former Marxist ex-premier of Portugal, Jose-Manuel Barroso, has presided over a fairly ineffectual ten years as President of the European Commission – stand by for a shock. You ain’t seen nuffin’ yet!
Schultz will be as energetic and pushy as Delors, and as dangerous as Machiavelli. Cameron will be mince-meat.
The high road to a single, socialist European super-state will re-open. Tax-payers money will pour into grandiose socialist mad-cap projects. No logic nor common-sense nor sound judgement nor practicalities will be allow to stand in Schultz’ way. For him, the end will justify the means. Pure Machiavelli.
