• People killed and injured in German hospital shooting.A number of people were killed and injured when a woman armed with a gun began shooting at a hospital in southern Germany, authorities said on Sunday."There were dead and injured," a spokesman for police in the southern town of Loerrach said. • Pipes: I Want to Defeat Radical Islam.On Wednesday, Professor Daniel Pipes, noted columnist, author and lecturer, director of the Middle East Forum and Taube distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University, spoke in Jerusalem on the topic of “Radical Islam and the Real Obstacles to Middle East Peace.”During his talk, Pipes said that he wants "to defeat radical Islam", or Islamism, which he defined as the third of three radical utopian movements, along with Fascism and Marxism. According to him, while the other two did not survive over time since they did not learn from their failures and stuck with “brutal violent totalitarian ways” right to the end, Islamism, on the other hand, has learned and is not making the same mistakes now as it did 30 years ago. • Taxpayers Paid At Least $9 Million for Signs Promoting Obama's Economic Stimulus. At a minimum, taxpayers have spent $9.1 million as of July 2010 on signs advertising the Obama administration’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the stimulus law, according to federal officials reporting estimates to the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board.But the cost is probably much higher since the six government agencies that spent stimulus dollars relied largely on sampling to get an estimate of how much money was spent on posting signs near Recovery Act projects.Most of the signs read, “Putting America to Work,” and they include the ARRA emblem along with the Recovery.gov Web address. • Experts warn against unedited content of daytime talk shows.Experts are worried that the problem with morning TV shows geared towards women in Turkey may grow bigger if the content of such programs are not supervised by an authorized body.The shows usually start early in the morning and continue throughout the afternoon. Considering the large population of unemployed women, experts believe that many women spend several hours watching such TV programs, adopting the hosts and guests as role models.According to Ayhan Akcan, a psychiatrist at Bakırköy Psychiatry Diagnosis Treatment and Research Center, women’s TV shows should be more sensitive and careful when picking topics of debate and guests.“Participants of such shows are usually uneducated and unemployed. They usually take part in TV shows because they believe they have no other option to solve their problems". Unfortunately, such shows sometimes lead to in murders and suicides. • Britain goes halal... but no-one tells the public: How famous institutions serve ritually slaughtered meat with no warning.A Mail on Sunday investigation – which will alarm anyone concerned about animal cruelty – has revealed that schools, hospitals, pubs and famous sporting venues such as Ascot and Twickenham are controversially serving up meat slaughtered in accordance with strict Islamic law to unwitting members of the public.All the beef, chicken and lamb sold to fans at Wembley has secretly been prepared in accordance with sharia law, while Cheltenham College, which boasts of its ‘strong Christian ethos’, is one of several top public schools which also serves halal chicken to pupils without informing them. Even Britain’s biggest hotel and restaurant group Whitbread, which owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre chains, among many others, has admitted that more than three-quarters of its poultry is halal.But it is animal rights groups which have been most vociferous in their opposition to halal slaughter. Campaign organisation Viva!, whose supporters include Heather Mills and Joanna Lumley, said in a statement: ‘Other practices which may be undertaken for religious reasons, such as polygamy or the stoning of adulterers, are not permitted in the UK.‘Religious freedom does not override other moral considerations and the suffering caused by this form of slaughter is so severe that it cannot be allowed to prevent action to be taken. Consumers can do their bit by boycotting places that persist in selling meat from unstunned animals.’An RSPCA spokesman added: ‘The public have a right to know how their meat is produced. Many people are extremely concerned about animal welfare. What The Mail on Sunday has discovered shows that people are not being kept informed. • Iran Jails Rights Activist For Six Years.Iran has sentenced a human rights activist to six years in prison on charges of antigovernment activities.Shiva Nazar Ahari is a founder of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters in Tehran. After a while two cars carrying 200,000 pieces of RMB1 notes in sacks arrived in front of the hotel.
