  • The Country America Fears Most.As the U.S. military moves in on al Qaeda in Yemen, residents tell Ellen Knickmeyer they fear they’re the next target of an American invasion. On a recent evening, I visited a Yemeni businessman who, after dinner, gave me a tour of his basement. What he wanted to show me was his stockpiles of water, rations, ammunitions and a crated, padlocked item that he identified as an anti-aircraft weapon. He gleefully took aim at his ceiling and mock-strafed imaginary F-16s. “We are all ready,” he said, with the mixture of hospitality and incipient lethalness that one finds here. “Every house in Yemen has this.”Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • HT:AmericanThinker. Two Years That Changed the World. The 2009 federal deficit was $1.413 trillion dollars, the largest in history. In fact, it was triple the 2008 deficit, which was the largest in history up until then. Even as a fraction of GDP, it was the largest ever in peacetime. What caused such a deficit? Was it tax cuts? Was it war? Was it bailouts? How, exactly, did Bush pull it off?To return to our Part I analogy of the U.S. economy as an airplane, Flight USA went from "all systems nominal" under Captain Bush and his Republican crew to stormy weather, mechanical malfunction, an all-new Democrat crew under Captain Obama, and a dangerous loss of altitude. All in two years. The passengers are nervous and restless, to say the least. Some even believe they heard "Allahu Akbar!" coming from the cockpit. Stay tuned for Part III of our flight.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

  • Islamophobia's Slow Boil. It's not surprising that nine years after the 9/11 attacks, there’s a surge of anti-Muslim sentiment. What's strange is that it took so long to come to a head. The leadership of "They don't trust me because of my middle name Hussein" has for sure a lot to do with it. Why did it take nine long years for Islamophobia to get up a head of steam? Why did it take nine long years for Islamophobia to get up a head of steam? We actually aren’t sure anymore that we will eventually win.Not with this President on the wheel.Read the full story here.Click here for comments.

I will not meet with them [the ambassadors] because it is so crystal clear what principles Danish democracy is built upon that there is no reason to do so…As prime minister, I have no power whatsoever to limit the press – nor do I want such power.”Read the full story here.Click here for comments.
