Egypt Spring : 15 of 27 political parties represented in parliament.


Egyptian Election results.(BM).CAIRO: Abdel Moez Ibrahim, Head of the High Judicial Elections Commission, announced on Saturday that 15 of Egypt’s 27 political parties were guaranteed representation in Egypt’s newly elected parliament.His statements came during the official announcement of election results on Saturday.
The 15 parties given seats in the parliament include :

  1. Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party,
  2. the Ultra-Conservative Salafist Al Nour Party,
  3. the Al Wafd Party,
  4. the Egyptian Bloc,
  5. Al Thawra Mostamera (The Revolution Continues),
  6. Al Mawaten El Masri (The Egyptian Citizen),
  7. the Reform and Development Party,
  8. Al Wasat,
  9. the Conservative Party,
  10. the Justice Party,
  11. the Democratic Peace,
  12. the Freedom Party,
  13. the Union Party,
  14. and the Masr El Kawmi Party.
He added that there are 21 parties that were excluded from representation in Parliament because they garnered less than the minimum 0.5 of the nationwide vote required for representation.He said that the total number of valid votes at the level of the republic for the proportional list system (coalition of parties) amounted to 28.85107 million votes.The Freedom and Justice Party managed to garner 127 seats, with the al-Nour Party earning 96, the Al Wafd with 36, the Egyptian Bloc with 33 and the Revolution Continues with 7.Hmmmm......I only count 14? "Democratic" - characterized by or advocating or based upon the principles of democracy or social equality.Copts represent about 9%, other Christian 1% of the population.Read the full story here.
