Iran Has Bought Russia’s Most Advanced Fighter Aircraft MiG-29.
Iran Has Bought Russia’s Most Advanced Fighter Aircraft MiG-29 . (IFP).
According to a report by Mizan, as translated by IFP, Abolfazl Hassanbeigi, the vice-chairman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, referred to the history of Iran’s plane purchase from the Soviet Union, and then Russia, and said, “Iran has purchased Sukhoi and Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters before.”
“MiG-29 is manufactured in three ranges. The first is sold to small countries; the second to Russia’s allies, and the third to the Russian Army,” he added.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has bought the same MiG-29 fighter jet that the Russian army possesses, namely the most advanced type.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he further referred to the negotiations with China, Ukraine and Russia for joint manufacture of fighter jets.
“However, we haven’t bought Chinese aircraft because they were not as advanced as we expected them to be,” he noted, dismissing the reports about Iran’s secret negotiations with China about fighter aircraft purchase.
“Nothing can remain secret in today’s world. […] The world will naturally know and announce anything purchased or sold by Iran,” he added.
“As Iran is aware of the large number of weapons sold by Germany, France, China and the United-States to ISIS allies, others know about Iran’s deals as well,” Hassanbeigi went on to say.

Parents Of Slain US Army Captain, Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala Appear At US Muslim Brotherhood Convention.
Parents Of Slain US Army Captain, Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala Appear At US Muslim Brotherhood Convention. HT: GlobalMBWatch.
Local media is reporting that Khizr Khan
and his wife Ghazala, the parents of slain US Army Captain Humayun
Khan, have appeared on stage at the 2016 national conference of
the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). According to a Chicago
Tribune report:
September 3, 2015 The couple who lost a son in the Iraq War and were attacked by Donald Trump after their appearance at the Democratic National Convention this summer on Saturday thanked those at a national Islamic convention for their support but warned the ‘assault’ on the Muslim community won’t end with the November election.
Khizr Khan and his wife, Ghazala, whose son, Capt. Humayan Khan, was killed in 2004 in Iraq, spoke to the annual Islamic Society of North America convention in Rosemont on Saturday afternoon.
Khan praised Muslim leaders for being a voice for the community and also thanked the scholars and mentors in his life.‘The burden of the scholar has gotten heavier because of the assault,’ Khizr Khan said. ‘Some people believe that this assault may be over, assault on my community and assault on my religion, will be over in November. Do not be mistaken. This assault is far beyond elections.’
Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, introduced the couple.
Calling the Khans ‘remarkable human beings,’ Sarsour said that Khizr Khan was ‘Unapologetically Muslim’ and that ‘we as American Muslims know exactly what the U.S. Constitution says, and we expect those who are going to be the leaders of the United States of America to abide by that Constitution.’
Khizr Khan, the father of a soldier killed in Iraq, speaks at the Democratic National Convention. Sarsour also praised Ghazala Khan’s silence during the Democratic convention, something Trump raised questions about, saying that the Republican presidential candidate was blind to ‘the power, the grace of Ghazala Khan.’
‘We do not have to scream, we do not have to speak for people to know that we as Muslim women are powerful women, that we are the foundations of our communities and our institutions, and it is because of us that our communities thrive,’ Sarsour said.
Ghazala Khan spoke first, thanking everyone for the love and respect they have received.‘I’m so grateful for all of you and all of America and all of the world,’ Ghazala Khan said. ‘I feel so close to you guys. … I have given one son and got this many back.’
Local media reported that the Khans were introduced by US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson who also spoke at the conference. A Washington Post report described Johnson as the first sitting Cabinet secretary and the highest-ranking U.S. official to address an ISNA conference. Read the full story here.In his remarks, Khizr Khan said, ‘The ink of the pen of the scholars is more sacred than the blood of the martyrs,’ and said scholars must play a large role in shaping the reaction of the Muslim community to the ‘chaos’ in American society.”Read the rest here.

Dubai law firm offers job to Obama so he can learn more about tolerance of Islam. (Gulfnews).
An Emirati lawyer has offered the US President Barack Obama a job in his law firm in Dubai in an attempt to familiarise him with the tolerance of Islam.
"To get closely acquainted with the meaning of tolerance of Islam," tweeted Emirati lawyer Eisa Bin Haidar on Sunday as he offered to hire Obama in his firm and to live in Dubai once his presidential tenure expires soon.

Salary housing tickets and travel to Arab countries
In another tweet addressing Obama, advocate Haidar tweeted "President Obama, I offer you a job in my office, salary, housing, tickets and travel to Arab countries".
When asked by Gulf News about his tweets, Bin Haidar said: “A faction of the American and western media has constantly profiled Islam as a religion of terror and categorized Muslims as terrorists. Well that is absolutely not true. Islam is a religion of tolerance, understanding, forgiveness and acceptance … it is not a religion of terror and Muslims are not terrorists.
"The only way for westerners to accept and understand Islam and Muslims is to come and live with us and amongst us. Once he [Obama] leaves his office at the White House, I offer President Obama to work in my law firm and then he would come and live amongst Arabs and Muslims and learn the exact meaning of tolerance.”
The best way for others to understand the true meaning of tolerance in Islam is for them to mingle with and socialise more with Muslims in this region, said Bin Haidar.
In the same context, he also tweeted in Arabic "I know my offer is a little bit weird, but you [Obama] have to live with Muslims to know them closely and away from political theatrics which are being spearheaded by the US".

'Arafat did not die of poisoning' - French experts.
'Arafat did not die of poisoning' - French experts. (France24).
French experts reexamining evidence have confirmed their earlier conclusion that the 2004 death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was not the result of poisoning, a prosecutor told AFP Monday.
The prosecutor for the western Paris suburb of Nanterre said the experts found there was no foul play in Arafat's death, which sparked immediate and enduring conspiracy rumours.
A centre in the Swiss city of Lausanne had tested biological samples taken from Arafat's personal belongings given to his widow after his death, and found "abnormal levels of polonium" – an extremely radioactive toxin, but stopped short of saying that he had been poisoned by polonium.
French experts "maintain that the polonium-210 and lead-210 found in Arafat's grave and in the samples are of an environmental nature," Nanterre prosecutor Catherine Denis said.
The reevaluation of earlier data "disproves the hypothesis of an acute ingestion of polonium-210 in the days preceding the appearance of symptoms," she said. Read the full story here.

Uludere airstrike massacre, INFO was transmitted from American Predator drone.
Uludere airstrike massacre, INFO was transmitted from American Predator drone. (Spiegel).
On a December night in 2011, a terrible thing happened on Mount Cudi, near the Turkish-Iraqi border. One side described it as a massacre; the other called it an accident.
Several Turkish F-16 fighter jets bombed a caravan of villagers that night, apparently under the belief that they were guerilla fighters with the separatist Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK).
The group was returning from northern Iraq and their mules were loaded down with fuel canisters and other cargo. They turned out to be smugglers, not PKK fighters. Some 34 people died in the attack.
An American Predator drone flying overhead had detected the group, prompting US analysts to alert their Turkish partners. The reconnaissance flight -- which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal in 2012 -- and its tragic consequences provided an important insight into the very tight working relationship between American and Turkish intelligence services in the fight against Kurdish separatists.
Although the PKK is still considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, its image has been improved radically by its recent success in fighting the Islamic State (IS) in northern Iraq and Syria. PKK fighters, backed by US airstrikes, are on the front lines against the jihadist movement there, and some in the West are now advocating arming the group and lifting its terrorist label.
Documents from the archive of US whistleblower Edward Snowden that SPIEGEL and The Intercept have seen show just how deeply involved America has become in Turkey's fight against the Kurds.
For a time, the NSA even delivered its Turkish partners with the mobile phone location data of PKK leaders on an hourly basis. The US government also provided the Turks with information about PKK money flows and the whereabouts of some of its leaders living in exile abroad. Hmmm....Back in 2012 i already was asking if a US drone gave the info for the strike? It seems i was right.

Video - Taliban Video Shows Bergdahl’s Transfer
According to the Wall Street Journal:
An Afghan insurgent, his face hidden by a scarf, tells Sgt. Bergdahl menacingly in Pashto moments before the release: “Don’t come back to Afghanistan. Next time we catch you, you won’t leave here alive.” Armed insurgents surrounding the pickup truck laugh as Sgt. Bergdahl bows his head, looking confused and scared.
“Long live the holy warriors of Afghanistan! Long live the great holy warrior and the leader of the believers, Mullah Mohammad Omar!” the insurgents chant, referring to the Taliban leader who has eluded U.S. capture since 2001.

U.S. Set to Release Key Taliban Figure in 9/11 Attacks

Carney in 2013: WH Will Consult with Congress on Gitmo Transfer.
Carney in 2013: WH Will Consult with Congress on Gitmo Transfer.HT: WhitehouseDossier.
Just under a year ago, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney promised that any decision with respect to the release of Guantanamo Bay detainees in exchange for kidnapped Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl would be made in consultation with Congress.
CARNEY: With regard to the transfer of Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay, we have made — the United States has not made the decision to do that, though we do expect the Taliban to raise this issue in our discussion, if and when those discussions happen.
As we have long said, however, we would not make any decisions about transfer of any detainees without consulting with Congress and without doing so in accordance with U.S. law.
Q So you haven’t ruled it out?
CARNEY: I’m simply saying that — first of all, you have to separate the two issues. We are focused on the return — the safe and immediate return of Sergeant Bergdahl, and we continue to use the tools at our disposal to help bring that about.Instead, the White House this week sent five dangerous former Taliban packing to Qatar without a word to lawmakers.
We also expect the Taliban to raise the issue of their detainees in discussions that we have with them if those discussions take place. And at this time we’ve made no decisions about the transfer of detainees.
And in accordance with law, we would be consulting with Congress should we make any decisions about that. So we remain committed to the closure of Guantanamo Bay, as you know. But separate from that on these specific issues about individual detainees, that would be a process that is done in accordance with law.
Carney today said Congress should have figured it out and, anyway, the White House had to move fast:
This should not have come as a surprise to members of Congress that this was possible because we had been working to secure Sgt. Bergdahl’s release for a long time . . .
It was the judgement of the team and the president that there was enough urgency here to assure that Sgt. Bergdahl was recovered . . .
Today we are being asked to believe the White House when it says the threat posed to the United States by the former detainees has been “sufficiently mitigated” by the terms of the release.

Father Of Soldier Who Obama Released, Declares Muslim Victory Call, And Obama Smiles As Soon As He Hears The Victory Cry.HT: WalidShoebat.Infidel Bloggers.
JUST WAIT TILL YOU READ ALL THE EVIDENCE WE ACCUMULATED ON THIS SUPPOSED RESCUE OPERATION.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
While the Obama administration is proudly touting how it was able to free an American soldier who was captured by the Taliban, what no one picked is the fact that Obama SMILED as soon as he heard the most famous war cry of Islam, “bismillah al-rahman al-rahim,” Arabic for “in the name of Allah the most gracious, the most merciful.”
Watch Obama smile as soon as Bergdahl gives the most famous Muslim expression, the “Bismillah” or the “Basmallah”:
The “basmallah” is the Islamic expression for victory and only indicates that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s father is a Muslim.Think that the man is acting as “Muslim” for a stealth operation to rescue his son who is already in good hands in Germany? And what is with the long beard and trimmed mustache?
No this is not a bum, biker, or a Santa Clause fan. When one gives the basmallah, trims his mustache and elongates his beard, its the first sign of a convert to Islam, just as that an ex-Muslim putting on a cross and saying, “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” is evidence enough of conversion to Christianity. But there is much more we obtained on this stealth jihadist.
But first, Obama’s smile says much. Obama has never declared the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and has no real testimony of converting to Christianity, as his pastor Jeremiah Wright stated:
I made it easy for him to come to an understanding of who Jesus Christ is and not feel that he was turning his back on his Islamic friends and his Islamic traditions and his understanding of Islam. But is it the speech with the Basmallah, the beard and the trimmed mustache, the testimonies from his colleagues on his desertion, that confirm our suspicion that these men are Jihadi converts?
Hardly.
What no one in the media captured was Robert Bowe Bergdahl’s favorites on his Youtube account.
It reveals a dark mind, a collector of a litany of ‘terrorist favorites’, videos from training on how to become Muslim Jihadist to urging American troops to desert and even favorite speeches by confirmed terrorists like Shaykh Anwar al-Awlaki, condemning America as a terrorist state. The five Taliban leaders were exchanged for Sgt.

A copy of the statement attributed to Omar has been posted on the Taliban’s
Urdu-language web site.
Omar thanks the government of Qatar, as well as
its emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, for his help in brokering the deal and for
hosting the Taliban leaders. In earlier statements, both President Barack Obama

assistance.
Omar offers his “heartfelt congratulations to the
entire Afghan Muslim nation,” including “all the mujahideen and to the families

purpose of securing their freedom.Hmmmm......Now Guess where Muslim brotherhood 'Godfather' Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi lives? If you said Qatar you are right.

US Media: Obama’s Oil Sanctions Against Iran Are not Working.
US Media: Obama’s Oil Sanctions Against Iran Are not Working.
Iran is now exporting more oil than at any time since mid-2012, raising doubts about how effective that sanctions strategy has been, Foreign Policy said.
“This rise in Iran’s oil exports came while the Obama administration may be betting that sanctions on Iranian oil exports force the country to make concessions over its nuclear program,” the Foreign Policy said in its report.
“According to the revised data released Friday by the International Energy Agency (IEA), Iran’s crude oil exports jumped to 1.65 million barrels per day in February, thanks to increased purchases by China, India, and South Korea,” added the report.
According to Foreign Policy, that is well above the informal cap of about one million barrels per day set by the Obama administration as part of the limited sanctions relief given to Tehran during the six-month interim deal to hold nuclear negotiations.
The IEA said that preliminary data showed that Iran’s oil exports dropped to about one million barrels a day in March, “but that figure will likely be revised upwards closer to February levels upon receipt of more complete data.”
“In other words, Iran’s oil exports appear to have jumped and stayed consistently higher since the announcement late last year of the interim deal,” the Foreign Policy said.
The International Monetary Fund said this month that Iran could post modest economic growth between now and next year.
Elsewhere, the report reminded the statements of EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif earlier this year that “a lot of intensive work will be required to overcome the differences” between the two sides, who will meet again next month in Vienna.
State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said Friday that the reported amounts of crude oil that Iran sold refers to volume over a six-month period, and that over time the amount will average out to one million barrels.
“Month-to-month variability is normal in oil markets,” Psaki said, “And we still expect and anticipate…that this will average out over a six-month period.”
Since 2012, the US and Europe have sought to hamstring Iran’s economy by limiting the amount of oil it can export.
As part of the interim nuclear deal — and in the teeth of heated opposition in Congress — the US halted further cuts to Iranian exports, but said that Iran could not sell additional volumes of oil while talks continue.
But the latest IEA figures show that China and India, in particular, continue to be large buyers of Iranian oil despite US efforts to get both countries to curb their consumption. The IEA said that China likely imported about 500,000 barrels of Iranian oil a day in the first quarter of 2014, compared with about 430,000 barrels a day last year.
According to the Foreign Policy report, India’s purchases of Iranian oil have also jumped sharply, despite both US diplomatic arm-twisting and Indian pledges to curtail imports.
The IEA said that India’s first-quarter Iranian oil imports were about 340,000 barrels a day compared with just 190,000 barrels a day last year.
“The latest apparent rebound in Iranian oil exports comes as Moscow is challenging the US-led effort to maintain pressure on Iran. Since the beginning of this year, Russia and Iran have reportedly been in talks regarding an oil-for-goods barter deal that could bring Iran as much as $20 billion in exchange for about 500,000 barrels of oil per day,” the Foreign Policy said.
Obama administration officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, have repeatedly stressed that such a deal, if it were finalized, could trigger US sanctions on Russia.
“Leading lawmakers, including Sens. Robert Menendez (D.-NJ) and Mark Kirk (D.-Ill.), the authors of key sanctions legislation, urged President Barack Obama to “put Iran on notice if it tries to evade limits on energy sales.”
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has rebuffed those warnings, saying that Russia only acknowledges UN sanctions on Iran, not US restrictions on Iran’s oil exports.
Hmmm.....I've have posted many, many times about the 'oil sanctions' scam by the Obama admin.
Turkey's TUPRAS oil refining company imported around 130,000-140,000 barrels of Iranian oil per day in 2012 and the volumes of supplies amount to 105,000 barrels per day in 2013.
Turkey imported about 185,000 barrels of oil from Iran per day in 2011.
Related: As expected Obama will give BFF Turkey a waiver from sanctions, they 'only' import 45 percent of their oil from Iran and aid Iran avoiding sanctions.
Obama administration officials didn't say how much the seven countries had cut their oil purchases. In March, U.S. officials signaled that they were seeking reductions of 15% to 22% of purchases.
Several large countries, including India and Turkey, said publicly that they were reluctant to reduce imports of Iranian oil because of their long reliance on the Islamic regime. They appear to have met the minimum level of cooperation that Washington demanded, however. How Much did Turkey actually 'reduce' it's inports??
Answer:
Before May, Turkey was the only buyer in Europe to increase purchases from Iran, while other European refiners cut back on imports of the crude ahead of an impending EU oil embargo due to take effect from July 1.In the first four months of 2012, Turkey imported 210,000 barrels per day of Iranian oil on average, including a huge 270,000 bpd in March, much higher than its 2011 average of 185,000 bpd.
In May Turkey's state-controlled refining company, Tupras, imported around 140,000 barrels per day (bpd), a 20 percent drop from its 2011 average, according to the latest shipping data, obtained by Reuters. Port data showed 152,000 tonnes of Iranian crude was delivered to the port of Aliaga in May, while 443,000 tonnes of Iranian crude was delivered to its second import terminal, Tutunciflik. Tupras is expected to import the same volume in June.
From July 1, Turkey will remain effectively the sole buyer of Iranian crude in Europe. Official trade data showed that in the first four months of this year, Iran accounted for about 58 percent of Turkey's near 6 million tonnes in total crude imports.
THIS REDUCTION IS A PURE SMOKESCREEN APPROVED BY THE OBAMA ADMIN!

"Sanctions That Benefit" - Iranian multi-billionaire Zanjani arrested.(Taz).
Iranian multi-billionaire Babak Zanjani has been arrested, Fars News Agency quoted Iran Judiciary spokesman Mohsen Ejei as saying on Dec.30.Before, the Central Bank of Iran announced on Dec. 28 that Zanjani has not paid any sold oil's money to the Central Bank of Iran.
Zanjani who is the owner or shareholder of at least 70 companies and banks including Bank Arzesh in Tajikistan and First Islamic Bank had been involved in Iran's oil sell and transferring the sold oil's money to the country to bypass the imposed western sanctions on the country.
Zanjani's name also was mentioned in Turkey's latest corruption scandal.
Earlier on Dec. 22, Iranian media outlets quoted Iranian MP Mostafa Afzalifard as saying Zanjani has paid his €2.06 billion debt to Iran's Oil Ministry.
The Central Bank has affirmed that the sum has been deposited to the Oil Ministry's account, Afzalifard added.
Iranian MP Saeed Heydari said that the document which Zanjani presented to the parliament's Article 90 Commission on payments is spurious.
In September, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said that "Zanjani claims the Americans blocked his bank account so he is not able to transfer the money to the Iranian government".
Zanjani had said that the money was in bank account of a Hong Kong-based company which is a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company, adding that, "transferring the money to Iran is not my concern".
In an interview with the ISNA News Agency in August, Zanjani said that he has helped transfer 17.5 billion euros of the Iranian banks' capital from outside the country to domestic bank accounts with a 0.007 percent interest.
He further rejected rumors about him selling Iranian oil at a cheap price. He said that the Hong Kong-based company is in charge of selling Iran's oil, but since no bank was ready to transfer money for the firm, the said the company asked him to help and he managed to transfer the money via the Malaysia-based bank (of which he was a member of the board of directors).
Zanjani also said he has helped the Hong Kong-based company with selling eight oil containers as well as some gas condensates containers. He claimed that he has helped Iran sell a total of 12 oil and gas condensates containers and secured the money transfer.

Hélène Flautre accuses Erdoğan with being ‘irresponsible' in corruption scandal.(TZ).
Hélène Flautre, the co-chairwoman of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, released a statement on Saturday in which she criticized Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with being “irresponsible” for accusing those who investigate the recent corruption probe.
Flautre's statement came after the Council of State's decision on Friday to cancel the Erdoğan government's executive order requiring police and prosecutors to notify their superiors of all investigations, effectively giving the government advance warning of what should be secret investigations.
“This is a serious political crisis and the European Union must stand firmly on the side of the defense of the rule of law, avoiding any exploitation of the situation,” her statement added.
After the cancellation of the order by the Council of State on Friday, Erdoğan said he would prosecute Turkey's top judicial body if he had the authority because it “committed a crime.”
Erdoğan claimed the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) has committed a crime by issuing a statement about a judicial police regulation while it was being assessed at the Council of State. On Thursday, the HSYK has harshly criticized the new judicial police regulation, saying that it is in violation of the Turkish Constitution.
The Erdoğan government's interference into and pressure on the judiciary was met with a huge backlash from opposition parties, bar associations, advocacy groups and the media. It has raised concerns of an attempted government cover-up of the corruption probe that has implicated prominent people in the business community and government.

In a letter to Vice President Esshaq Jahangiri, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has ordered an immediate investigation by government agencies for identifying and punishing sanctions profiteers.
“To take the country’s economy out of recession and create an economic boom, it is vital to ensure transparent and secure environment for economic activities. It is necessary to take immediate measures to identify and punish those who by taking advantage of special (anti-sanctions) concessions and privileges that have been granted them to enrich themselves through corruption and illegitimate income,” wrote Rouhani in his letter. (Mehr News Agency, 28 December)
“Cases of abuse, especially regarding the sanctions, should be prioritized, and a report should be presented within a month,” Rouhani added in his letter.
To defy sanctions, the Iranian government had devised schemes to receive payments for its oil and gas exports. It allowed “private” companies, usually fronts for IRGC and the Quds Force, to sell as much as 20% of oil exports in black market. The experience, however, created “sanctions brokers,” like the notorious Babak Zanjani, to misuse their government-backed access to illicit money transfers to amass personal fortunes in shortest time. Zanjani, who entered the oil “business” in 2012, after the sanctions were imposed, boasted to reporters that he was now worth $10 billion.
Another case was the now-infamous “gas-for-gold” scheme, where Iran sent gas and oil to Turkey in return for gold bullions. The Iranian sanctions broker involved in that scheme, Reza Zarrab, was arrested in Istanbul last week and claimed that Babak Zanjani was his ‘boss” and contact in Tehran. The case has now directly involved Iran in the growing government corruption scandal in Turkey.Hmmm.......Someone trying to get Ahmadinejad? The IRGC won't take that so easy.

"Sanctions That Benefit" - Growing Corruption Scandal in Turkey Involves Iran – ‘Gas for Gold’
"Sanctions That Benefit" - Growing Corruption Scandal in Turkey Involves Iran – ‘Gas for Gold’.HT: UskowiOnIran.
The growing government corruption scandal in Turkey has led to resignations of three key ministers and calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Erdogan, who on Wednesday replaced half his cabinet.
The scandal partly involves suspects with close ties to Iran. An Iranian businessman living in Turkey, Reza Zarrab (aka Riza Sarraf) was arrested last week in Istanbul and charged with money laundering and bribing Turkish officials. Zarrab is believed to have facilitated the payments for oil and gas imports from Iran with gold bullions worth tens of billions of dollars sent via couriers to Tehran in a scheme to circumvent sanctions. In the process, Zarrab is believed to have bribed senior Turkish officials to enable his operations. The sums of “commission” bribes are said to be in tens of millions of dollars.
The so-called “gas-for-gold” scheme was designed to circumvent the sanctions limiting financial transactions with Iran. This is how the scheme was designed: Iran exported oil and gas to Turkey. The Turkish government opened an account at Istanbul’s Halkbank to pay for Iranian imports. Zarrab forms Safir Gold Company in Turkey. The company opens a bank account at Halkbank. The Iran funds were then transferred through intra-bank transactions to Zarrab’s company account. Zarrab uses the funds to procure gold bullions globally and imports them through his Turkish-registered company to Turkey. He then sends the gold through couriers either directly or through Dubai to Tehran. The Turkish media repots that some $13 billion worth of gold was sent to Iran through the “gas-for-gold” scheme.
To facilitate his operations, Zarrab reportedly bribes sons of three key ministers, those of finance, interior and environment, handsomely. The son of finance minister is said to have received $50 million in just more than a year. The sons have ben arrested on bribery charges. Suleyman Aslan, the CEO of Halkbank, was also arrested on bribery charges. The police found $4.5 million in cash hidden in shoeboxes during the search of the house. (balkaneu.com/Trend/Haberturk, 19-24 December)
Meanwhile, Zarrab reportedly tells the Turkish prosecutors that his “boss” and contact in Tehran was Babak Zanjani, the controversial Iranian businessman and head of the Sorinet Group business conglomerate. (Haberturk, 21 December)
Zanjani became notoriously famous as the most successful “sanctions broker,” selling Iranian crude oil in the black market. He obtained the oil through an arrangement with Iran’s Ministry of Oil, which had allocated 20% of Iran’s oil exports to be handled by “private” firms. In Zanjani’s case, his private firm was reportedly a front company for IRGC’s Quds Force that had obtained a large allocation of the private oil export license from the oil ministry. In the process, Zanjani became a billionaire since the inception of oil sanctions in 2012, and was now identified by Zarrab as the boss in “gas-for-gold” scheme in Turkey.
On Thursday, Zanjani denied involvement in Turkey's corruption scandal or “gas-for-gold” scheme, saying he had met Zarrab only few times, adding, “I was not aware of his activities.”
"We (Zanjani and Zarrab) did not carry out any common business," Zanjani said. “If Zarrab had done any illegal business, I would not be responsible for that.” (Trend, 26 December)
In January 2013, Turkish police inspecting a private jet at Istanbul airport found 320 gold bars worth some $30 million. Turkish media have identified Zanjani as the passenger on board, ready to depart for Dubai. A Zarrab (aka Sarraf) would then intervene with the police and the aircraft is allowed to take off. This is the same Zarrab involved in the current scandal. A number od senior Istanbul police officials have been arrested this week on charges of bribery and corruption. (balkaneu.com/23 December)
Meanwhile in Tehran, 12 MPs asked the Judiciary officials to question Zanjani in relations to the growing scandal in Turkey. Zarrab remains under custody in Istanbul. The prosecutors as part of their on-going investigations have confiscated his yachts and other high-value possessions. Zarrab, 29, set up his Safir Gold Company only in 2012, and within a year the company boasted the control of 46% of all Turkish gold exports. Previously, Zarrab was an employee at Al Nafees Exchange and Al Salam Exchange Center in Dubai. He is now married to Turkish famous singer Embru Gundes. (Haberturk, 21 December)Hmmm....As i said many times before all this happened because the Obama 'Admin' 'Allowed' it to happen.
More, Much more here:
As expected Obama will give BFF Turkey a waiver from sanctions, they 'only' import 45 percent of their oil from Iran and aid Iran avoiding sanctions.

Follow the money: How lobby interests are spinning Iran nuclear deal.
Follow the money: How lobby interests are spinning Iran nuclear deal.(RT).
RT: As we see, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammed Zarif came out of the talks with different views. Why's there such diversity in the interpretation of the deal?
Pepe Escobar: Because the spin war started at 3am in Geneva. It’s going to go on for another six months, until May 2014, that’s the duration of this “first step” deal.
[It’s] very important: Kerry had to say [this] so that he could appease the Israel lobby, the US Congress and the Wahhabi petrodollar lobby in the US, not to mention some neocons in the US as well, [who are] still very powerful.
In Iran it’s different. They are saying, “We still have our right to enrich uranium,” and this is correct, because they will keep enriching uranium to 5 percent for the next six months, [while] 20 percent [enrichment] is frozen. They will discuss… the next deal, which will be the definitive deal, starting from May 2014.
And all the 20 percent enriched uranium that they have is going to be diluted, so it cannot be used later on for weapons-grade material.
RT: As you’ve said, the spin war has started, but how that would affect the implementation of the deal now and six months down the road? Who will eventually benefit from it, if the two sides have such diverse opinions? Won’t it stall one day at some point?
PE: No, we have to follow the letter of the agreement. This means enrichment until 5 percent OK, no further enrichment till 20 percent for the next six months, no new centrifuges. If Iran follows this – they are abiding by the deal, no problem.
The thing is, if among these IAEA inspectors [who] should be in Iran practically on a daily basis from now on, if you had the usual Eiffel traders [Parisian residents who fraudulently “sell” the Eiffel Tower to unsuspecting visitors – RT] who start spinning something else.
I’m sure Iran won’t break their promises, it’s in their own interest not to break any promise.
RT: It's emerged that Washington was engaged in secret talks with Iran long before the Geneva agreement, and even their closest allies were unaware. What do you make of this?
PE: Look, this is an extremely complex negotiation. Can you imagine that you have sherpas going to Geneva a month or three weeks ago, and hammering out the final deal so [that] we have foreign ministers [who] can sign it? It’s impossible. Sherpas usually start such things months in advance and obviously we had America’s sherpas, Iranian sherpas and Russian sherpas, these are the ones that count. Britain and France are spectators; they don’t count at all.
France counts [regarding] the 20 percent [enriched uranium], because they have cornered the market in medical isotopes. If Iran reaches 20 percent enrichment and starts selling their own medical isotopes cheaper, especially to the developing world, it’s not a good deal for France. So for the moment France is protecting its business interests.
RT: Let’s turn to America’s assessment of the situation, specifically what President Obama said. Looking at the Geneva deal, he said this is just a first step to reach a comprehensive solution in the future. What in your opinion would make Washington consider a full agreement?
PE: Obama is correct when he said, “This is the first step.” But, very important, the way he said it was very condescending, in fact even insulting, to Iran. He said nothing about Iranians’ role in the deal, mentioning only the role of absurd sanctions, which should be dismantled, because most of the sanctions bypass the UN, like Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has been saying for months in fact.
Very important, for the next few months: follow the money. The Americans say they are going to unfreeze some of the Iranian money, perhaps $32 billion or even more. There is $10 billion in European banks. These are not going to be unfrozen. If the US unfreezes $4 to $5 billion – Obama can do it by executive order, bypassing the US Congress.
RT: John Kerry believes the sanctions have done their job and were quite helpful in sealing this deal. To what extent do you agree with this?
PE: In fact, it is the Iranian population that is paying the price of the sanctions; the Iranian government has found ways to bypass it. They’re selling, or bartering or trading energy, especially with their Asian customers. You know how much money Iran has [with] mostly Asian clients, China, Japan, Turkey and South Korea? $50 billion, [yet] they still cannot bring that money to Iran, so they have to buy products from these countries. So this is something that must be hammered out in the next agreement.
For the moment we have a breakthrough – it’s going to last for six months. There will be all sorts of interests that will try to bombard this deal; I’m saying especially about Wahhabi petrodollar monarchy interests and the Israeli lobby as well.
But for the moment we have diplomacy in action, something that we haven’t seen, especially between Iran and the US, for 34 years. This is the major breakthrough at the moment. But we have to be vigilant.

TEHRAN (FNA)- After the White House released a modified version of the deal struck by Iran and the six world powers in Geneva early Sunday morning, the Iranian Foreign Ministry released the text of the agreement.
The full text of the deal is as follows:
Geneva, 24 November 2013
Preamble
The goal for these negotiations is to reach a mutually-agreed long-term comprehensive solution that would ensure Iran's nuclear programme will be exclusively peaceful. Iran reaffirms that under no circumstances will Iran ever seek or develop any nuclear weapons.
This comprehensive solution would build on these initial measures and result in a final step for a period to be agreed upon and the resolution of concerns. This comprehensive solution would enable Iran to fully enjoy its right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the relevant articles of the NPT in conformity with its obligations therein. This comprehensive solution would involve a mutually defined enrichment programme with practical limits and transparency measures to ensure the peaceful nature of the programme.
This comprehensive solution would constitute an integrated whole where nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. This comprehensive solution would involve a reciprocal, step-bystep process, and would produce the comprehensive lifting of all UN Security Council sanctions, as well as multilateral and national sanctions related to Iran's nuclear programme.
There would be additional steps in between the initial measures and the final step, including, among other things, addressing the UN Security Council resolutions, with a view toward bringing to a satisfactory conclusion the UN Security Council's consideration of this matter. The E3+3 and Iran will be responsible for conclusion and implementation of mutual near-term measures and the comprehensive solution in good faith. A Joint Commission of E3/EU+3 and Iran will be established to monitor the implementation of the near-term measures and address issues that may arise, with the IAEA responsible for verification of nuclear-related measures. The Joint Commission will work with the IAEA to facilitate resolution of past and present issues of concern.
Elements of a first step The first step would be time-bound, with a duration of 6 months, and renewable by mutual consent, during which all parties will work to maintain a constructive atmosphere for negotiations in good faith. Iran would undertake the following voluntary measures:
· From the existing uranium enriched to 20%, retain half as working stock of 20% oxide for fabrication of fuel for the TRR. Dilute the remaining 20% UF6 to no more than 5%. No reconversion line.
· Iran announces that it will not enrich uranium over 5% for the duration of the 6 months.
· Iran announces that it will not make any further advances of its activities at the Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant1, Fordow2, or the Arak reactor3, designated by the IAEA as IR-40.
· Beginning when the line for conversion of UF6 enriched up to 5% to UO2 is ready, Iran has decided to convert to oxide UF6 newly enriched up to 5% during the 6 month period, as provided in the operational schedule of the conversion plant declared to the IAEA.
· No new locations for the enrichment.
· Iran will continue its safeguarded R&D practices, including its current enrichment R&D practices, which are not designed for accumulation of the enriched uranium.
· No reprocessing or construction of a facility capable of reprocessing.
· Enhanced monitoring:
o Provision of specified information to the IAEA, including information on Iran's plans for nuclear facilities, a description of each building on each nuclear site, a description of the scale of operations for each location engaged in specified nuclear activities, information on uranium mines and mills, and information on source material. This information would be provided within three months of the adoption of these measures.
o Submission of an updated DIQ for the reactor at Arak, designated by the IAEA as the IR-40, to the IAEA.
o Steps to agree with the IAEA on conclusion of the Safeguards Approach for the reactor at Arak, designated by the IAEA as the IR-40.
o Daily IAEA inspector access when inspectors are not present for the purpose of Design Information Verification, Interim Inventory Verification, Physical Inventory Verification, and unannounced inspections, for the purpose of access to offline surveillance records, at Fordow and Natanz.
o IAEA inspector managed access to:
centrifuge assembly workshops4;
centrifuge rotor production workshops and storage facilities; and, uranium mines and mills.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Footnotes:
1 Namely, during the 6 months, Iran will not feed UF6 into the centrifuges installed but not enriching uranium. Not install additional centrifuges. Iran announces that during the first 6 months, it will replace existing centrifuges with centrifuges of the same type.
2 At Fordow, no further enrichment over 5% at 4 cascades now enriching uranium, and not increase enrichment capacity. Not
feed UF6 into the other 12 cascades, which would remain in a non-operative state. No interconnections between cascades.
Iran announces that during the first 6 months, it will replace existing centrifuges with centrifuges of the same type.
3 Iran announces on concerns related to the construction of the reactor at Arak that for 6 months it will not commission the reactor or transfer fuel or heavy water to the reactor site and will not test additional fuel or produce more fuel for the reactor or install remaining components.
4 Consistent with its plans, Iran's centrifuge production during the 6 months will be dedicated to replace damaged machines.
In return, the E3/EU+3 would undertake the following voluntary measures:
· Pause efforts to further reduce Iran's crude oil sales, enabling Iran's current customers to purchase their current average amounts of crude oil. Enable the repatriation of an agreed amount of revenue held abroad. For such oil sales, suspend the EU and U.S. sanctions on associated insurance and transportation services.
· Suspend U.S. and EU sanctions on:
o Iran's petrochemical exports, as well as sanctions on associated services.5
o Gold and precious metals, as well as sanctions on associated services.
o Gold and precious metals, as well as sanctions on associated services.
· Suspend U.S. sanctions on Iran's auto industry, as well as sanctions on associated services.
· License the supply and installation in Iran of spare parts for safety of flight for Iranian civil aviation and associated services. License safety related inspections and repairs in Iran as well as associated services.6
· No new nuclear-related UN Security Council sanctions.
· No new EU nuclear-related sanctions.
· The U.S. Administration, acting consistent with the respective roles of the President and the
Congress, will refrain from imposing new nuclear-related sanctions.
· Establish a financial channel to facilitate humanitarian trade for Iran's domestic needs using Iranian oil revenues held abroad. Humanitarian trade would be defined as transactions involving food and agricultural products, medicine, medical devices, and medical expenses incurred abroad. This channel would involve specified foreign banks and non-designated Iranian banks to be defined when establishing the channel.
o This channel could also enable:
transactions required to pay Iran's UN obligations; and, direct tuition payments to universities and colleges for Iranian students studying abroad, up to an agreed amount for the six month period.
· Increase the EU authorisation thresholds for transactions for non-sanctioned trade to an agreed amount.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Footnotes.
5 "Sanctions on associated services" means any service, such as insurance, transportation, or financial, subject to the underlying U.S. or EU sanctions applicable, insofar as each service is related to the underlying sanction and required to facilitate the desired transactions. These services could involve any non-designated Iranian entities.
6 Sanctions relief could involve any non-designated Iranian airlines as well as Iran Air.
Elements of the final step of a comprehensive solution*
The final step of a comprehensive solution, which the parties aim to conclude negotiating and commence implementing no more than one year after the adoption of this document, would:
· Have a specified long-term duration to be agreed upon.
· Reflect the rights and obligations of parties to the NPT and IAEA Safeguards Agreements.
· Comprehensively lift UN Security Council, multilateral and national nuclear-related sanctions, including steps on access in areas of trade, technology, finance, and energy, on a schedule to be agreed upon.
· Involve a mutually defined enrichment programme with mutually agreed parameters consistent with practical needs, with agreed limits on scope and level of enrichment activities, capacity, where it is carried out, and stocks of enriched uranium, for a period to be agreed upon.
· Fully resolve concerns related to the reactor at Arak, designated by the IAEA as the IR-40.
No reprocessing or construction of a facility capable of reprocessing.
· Fully implement the agreed transparency measures and enhanced monitoring. Ratify and implement the Additional Protocol, consistent with the respective roles of the President and the Majlis (Iranian parliament).
· Include international civil nuclear cooperation, including among others, on acquiring modern light water power and research reactors and associated equipment, and the supply of modern nuclear fuel as well as agreed R&D practices.
Following successful implementation of the final step of the comprehensive solution for its full duration, the Iranian nuclear programme will be treated in the same manner as that of any non-nuclear weapon state party to the NPT.
* With respect to the final step and any steps in between, the standard principle that "nothing is agreed until everything is agreed" applies.
