"Disturbing health report" on sex workers in Iran published.

"Disturbing health report" on sex workers in Iran published. (Taz).

A report by Iran’s health ministry says that almost five percent of Iranian sex workers suffer HIV infection, Minoo Mohraz, head of the Iranian Research Center for HIV/AIDS said.

The “shocking report” unveils that the average age of female sex workers is about 38 years, Mohraz said, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported.

Iranian female sex workers are 18-56 years old, Mohraz said, adding 58 percent of women selling themselves are divorced. She said that only 44 percent of these women use condoms during sexual intercourse, while there are also those which do not, after they get paid extra money.

It is while some 68 percent of single female sex workers and 75 percent of divorced women selling themselves in Iran have never had an HIV test, Mohraz said.

“Two of every 14 street women in Tehran are infected with HIV,” Mohraz said, adding that the rising average marriage age is one of the reasons behind prostitution in Iran.

“We will witness the increase in the number of the AIDS patients if the problems regarding the marriage are not resolved,” she warned.

Over 12 million of Iranians aged 20 to 35 years are not married, Jalil Dorouzi, an official with Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) said last January.

Information about AIDS is hidden in Iran for mental and religious reasons. People are not informed about virus transmission, so the number of infected in the country has greatly increased. Read the full story here.

'Arafat did not die of poisoning' - French experts.

'Arafat did not die of poisoning' - French experts. (France24).

French experts reexamining evidence have confirmed their earlier conclusion that the 2004 death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was not the result of poisoning, a prosecutor told AFP Monday.

The prosecutor for the western Paris suburb of Nanterre said the experts found there was no foul play in Arafat's death, which sparked immediate and enduring conspiracy rumours.

A centre in the Swiss city of Lausanne had tested biological samples taken from Arafat's personal belongings given to his widow after his death, and found "abnormal levels of polonium" – an extremely radioactive toxin, but stopped short of saying that he had been poisoned by polonium.

French experts "maintain that the polonium-210 and lead-210 found in Arafat's grave and in the samples are of an environmental nature," Nanterre prosecutor Catherine Denis said.

The reevaluation of earlier data "disproves the hypothesis of an acute ingestion of polonium-210 in the days preceding the appearance of symptoms," she said. Read the full story here.

French experts rule out Arafat 'Nuclear' poisoning.

Arafat's personal doctor : "Arafat died of AIDS" by Ibn-Khaldun

French experts rule out Arafat 'Nuclear' poisoning.(AlAhram).

French experts have ruled out a theory that Yasser Arafat was killed by poisoning, a source close to the investigation into the Palestinian leader's 2004 death told AFP.

The French experts' findings differ significantly from those of Swiss scientists, who said last month that their research offered some support for the suggestion Arafat was killed by polonium poisoning."The report rules out the poisoning theory and goes in the sense of a natural death," the source said.

Arafat died at a French military hospital near Paris on November 11, 2004, with doctors unable to say what killed him. At the time, an autopsy was never carried out -- at his widow's request.

But France opened a formal murder inquiry into his death in August 2012, a month after an Al-Jazeera documentary linked his death to polonium poisoning.

Some 60 samples were taken from Arafat's remains in November 2012 and divided between Swiss and Russian investigators and a French team carrying out a probe at his widow's request.

The Swiss team said the test results neither confirmed nor denied polonium was the actual source of his death, although they provided "moderate" backing for the idea he was poisoned by the rare and highly radioactive element. They said the quantity of the deadly substance found on his remains pointed to the involvement of a third party

Video - PA leader: US involved in murder of Arafat.

PA leader: US involved in murder of Arafat.HT: Palwatch.
Last week, Palestinian Media Watch reported that the Palestinian Authority Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash said Jews had killed Yasser Arafat by poison, just as the Jews of the town of Khaibar had killed Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
Now, senior PA and Fatah leader Jibril Rajoub has added that the US was involved in killing Arafat:

"It's obvious that Israel wasn't alone [in poisoning Arafat]; the US was there. That fool known as [George] Bush took away Yasser Arafat's protection and gave [Israeli PM] Sharon the green light to liquidate Yasser Arafat." [Official PA TV, Nov. 10, 2013].

Radiation Experts Confirm Polonium on Arafat’s Clothing, no mention of AIDS as cause of death.

Radiation Experts Confirm Polonium on Arafat’s Clothing, no mention of AIDS as cause of death. HT: IsraelMatzav.

Via: AFP:
Swiss radiation experts have confirmed they found traces of polonium on clothing used by Yasser Arafat which “support the possibility” the veteran Palestinian leader was poisoned.
In a report published by The Lancet at the weekend, the team provide scientific details to media statements made in 2012 that they had found polonium on Arafat’s belongings.

Several samples containing body fluid stains (blood and urine) contained higher unexplained polonium 210 activities than the reference samples,” says the case report.

“These findings support the possibility of Arafat’s poisoning with polonium 210.”

The polonium samples were measured at “several mBq,” or millibecquerels, a unit of radioactivity.

Computer modelling, which calculates polonium’s very fast decay, found that these levels “are compatible with a lethal ingestion of several GBq,” or several billion becquerels, in 2004, they said.

Update:  Russian experts confirm no Polonium poisoning of Arafat:

A Russian official said Tuesday that forensic tests found no indications of polonium poisoning in the body of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
He could not have died of polonium poisoning – the Russian experts found no traces of this substance,” Vladimir Uiba, the head of Russia’s Federal Medical-Biological Agency, told the Interfax news agency on Tuesday.
And if anyone is an expert on Pollonium poisoning it's the Russians. :)

Gonorrhea Superbug Could Be 'Worse Than AIDS'.

Gonorrhea Superbug Could Be 'Worse Than AIDS'.(CNBC). An antibiotic-resistant strain of gonorrhea—now considered a superbug—has some analysts saying that the bacteria's effects could match those of AIDS.

"This might be a lot worse than AIDS in the short run because the bacteria is more aggressive and will affect more people quickly," said Alan Christianson, a doctor of naturopathic medicine.

Even though nearly 30 million people have died from AIDS related causes worldwide, Christianson believes the effect of the gonorrhea bacteria is more direct.

"Getting gonorrhea from this strain might put someone into septic shock and death in a matter of days," Christianson said. "This is very dangerous."

"It's an emergency situation," said William Smith, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors. "As time moves on, it's getting more hazardous."

This gonorrhea strain, HO41, was discovered in Japan two years ago in a 31-year-old female sex worker who had been screened in 2009. The bacteria has since been found in Hawaii, California and Norway.

Because it resists current antibiotic treatment, the strain has been placed in the superbug category with other resistant bacteria, such as MRSA and CRE. These superbugs kill about half the people they attack, and nearly one in 20 hospital patients become infected with one, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Though no deaths from HO41 have been reported, efforts to combat it must continue, Smith said.

"We have to keep beating the drum on this," he said. "The potential for disaster is great."

Gonorrhea can be hard to detect. It often shows no symptoms in about half of women and in about 5 percent of men. Gonorrhea infection rates were at historic lows until two years ago, according to the CDC.

"That's what's kind of scary about this," Smith said. "We are at lows in terms of infections, but this strain is a very tricky bug and we don't have anything medically to fight it right now."

"This is a disaster just waiting to happen," Christianson said. "It's time to do something about it before it explodes. "These superbugs, including the gonorrhea strain, are a health threat. We need to move now before it gets out of hand." Read the full story here.

‘Get AIDS, win an iPad:’ Prominent Saudi TV host slams health minister's 'action'

‘Get AIDS, win an iPad:’ Prominent Saudi TV host slams health minister's 'action'.(AA).The story of Reham Hakami, the 12-year-old Saudi girl who was infected with HIV during a blood transfusion, continues to stir controversy across the kingdom amid calls for Health Minister Abdullah al-Rabeah to resign.
During his popular “Thamena” talk show on the MBC TV channel, Dawood al-Shirian criticized Rabeah’s handling of the incident, after the minister visited Hakami in a Riyadh hospital and gave her an iPad.
During the show, Health Ministry spokesman Khalid Marghalni said Rabeah was acting like “a father” in seeking to cheer up the girl.
The best gift would be for the minister to resign tonight,” Shirian replied.
In Saudi Arabia, calls for the resignation of senior government officials are uncommon in the media.
Hakami’s story has garnered intense media attention across the kingdom, with calls for those responsible to be held accountable.
Well-known Saudi poet Talal Hamza mocked the minister’s gift by tweeting: “A smart phone for every stupid behavior.”
Popular preacher Adel al-Kalabani described the gift as “the cheapest compensation for AIDS” which “should be included in the Guinness World Records.”Read the full story here.

Russian Experts Arrive in West Bank for Arafat Exhumation.

Russian Experts Arrive in West Bank for Arafat Exhumation.(RN).Russian specialists have arrived in the West Bank to take part in the exhumation of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to establish the reasons for his death eight years ago, a source in the city of Ramallah told RIA Novosti on Monday. A new probe by French authorities was prompted earlier this year following the detection of radioactive polonium-210 on Arafat's personal effects provided by his wife. The Palestinian authorities said earlier Arafat’s body will be exhumed on Tuesday. Three Russian experts invited by the Palestinian National Administration (PNA) will be part of an international team, which also includes specialists from France and Switzerland.
They will be tasked with finding new facts that could reveal the true reasons behind Arafat’s death. The specialists will take samples from Arafat’s remains and bring them to their respective countries to be tested for polonium-210 or other lethal substances. The tests could take months, the Palestinian investigators said on Saturday. The former Palestinian leader’s body will be reburied the same day with military honors. Arafat, who led the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for 35 years, died in Paris in November 2004 after suddenly falling ill. His death has been attributed, alternatively, to either illness or poisoning. Palestinians have repeatedly claimed he could have been poisoned by Israelis, while Tel Aviv has vehemently denied any involvement in his death.Hmmmm......'Polonium Experts'...Next they'll say Vodka could have cured him......На здоровье.Read the full story here.

Arafat body 'to be exhumed Tuesday' for poison tests.

Arafat body 'to be exhumed Tuesday' for poison tests.(HD).The body of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be exhumed on Tuesday to undergo poison tests, the head of the Palestinian inquiry team said on Saturday. "The tomb will be opened on November 27 and experts will take samples the same day within a matter of a few hours," Tawfiq Tirawi told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah. He said a reburial ceremony would be held later the same day. Arafat's family members had earlier said that the exhumation would probably go ahead on Monday. Tirawi did not explain the apparent delay while stressing the exhumation was painful but necessary to establish the truth of allegations that Israeli may have poisoned the iconic Palestinian leader. "November 27 will be one of the most painful days of my life for personal reasons as as well as patriotic, political and religious ones," the Palestinian inquiry chief said. "But it is necessary in order to get to the painful truth behind Yasser Arafat's death." Tirawi added that members of his commission remained convinced the Israel had used the radioactive element polonium to kill Arafat -- the same poison used to assassinate Kremlin critic Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006. "As patriotic Palestinians, we remain convinced that the Israelis assassinated president Arafat, and at the inquiry level, we have evidence leading in this direction," he said.Hmmm......Yasser Arafat died of AIDS. Arafat foundation: ‘no need for more proof’ of poison.

Arafat foundation: ‘no need for more proof’ of poison.(AA).The Yasser Arafat Foundation said Sunday there was “no need” for more proof the Palestinian leader was poisoned in what appeared to be a stance against French plans to exhume his body. “Since the formation of this Foundation, it has forcefully held on to the fact that Yasser Arafat died abnormally after being killed by a poison which was unidentified at the time,” it said in a statement. “The Foundation does not see a need here for more proof.” The statement was issued just days after a delegation of French magistrates said they would travel to travel to the West Bank to investigate following claims Arafat may have succumbed to poisoning by the radioactive substance polonium. No date has been given for the trip which would involve forensic officers exhuming the body and taking samples for laboratory testing in an investigation sought by Arafat’s widow Suha. Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, a source from the Foundation said they would only agree to a further examination of his body if it was conducted as part of an international investigation committee. “If there is an international committee, we will agree to the body being checked,” he said, without explaining further. Arafat died in a French military hospital near Paris on Nov. 11, 2004 and French experts were unable say what had killed him, with many Palestinians subscribing to the belief that he was poisoned by Israel. In July, president Mahmud Abbas and Suha Arafat both gave their consent for samples to be taken from his remains, which are buried in a mausoleum in the West Bank city of Ramallah.Read the full story here.

Yasir Arafat Is Still Dead and We Know Who Really Did Him In.

Yasir Arafat Is Still Dead and We Know Who Really Did Him In.(RR).By Barry Rubin.Yasir Arafat is still dead. True, he was once alive. I sat across from him in his Gaza office, for example. And he even had a copy of my history of the PLO on his bookshelf so he must have been of sound mind at the time. It’s not my fault. I told him to start jogging and cut down on sweets. But he didn’t listen. On November 4, 2004, he died, a fate he previously delivered to thousands of far more innocent people.
The effort now by various Palestinian factions to imply Israel killed him is the funniest thing in the Middle East since the U.S. director of national intelligence’s congressional briefing when he said the Muslim Brotherhood was a secular democratic organization. What’s dismaying is how much play Western media are giving this charge as if it should be taken seriously. When the West behaves in this way it signals at the least a dangerously naive credulousness and at worst a profound anti-Jewish and anti-Israel complex. The New York Times and Washington Post take this nonsense seriously.
But there’s something else in this story, something very chilling indeed. Revolutionary Islamists especially, but many Muslims otherwise, believe that Jews tried to murder Muhammad, the founder of Islam, and even if they failed that the poison shortened his life. The accusation that Jews are the murderer of prophets — with Muslims throwing in the founder of Christianity also — is a phrase that derives from this story. It is frequently heard from Hamas and others.
This is a blood libel, an alleged crime that then leads to the view that Jews are absolutely evil and should be wiped out. In short, it is a rationale for genocide. When Iran, Hamas, Hizballah, and the Muslim Brotherhood say that Israel should be wiped off the map and Jews generally should be murdered, that incitement is the inevitable consequence of this line of thinking.
That Western observers are unaware of all of this history — repeated daily in inciteful sermons found in Middle East mosques — is quite evident. Such a lack of knowledge leads them to believe that the conflicts they say are easily resolvable, quickly settled by more Israeli concessions or still continuing because of Israeli actions when the causes are much deeper and the solutions far more remote. Western societies today are obsessed with searching everywhere for racism and hate speech. Well, the idea that the Jews murdered Arafat (rather than that Arafat spent most of his career murdering Jews) falls into that category.
As for the specific claims in the Arafat case, they are easily disposed of:
First of all, anyone who saw Arafat during the last year of his life knew he was seriously ill and steadily worsening. His lips trembled, he looked disoriented, and he wasn’t as articulate as usual. Even on television you couldn’t possibly miss his distress. Parkinson’s disease was a likely diagnosis though Crohn’s disease was said to be another probable medical problem for the dictator.
His doctors obviously knew that he was in bad shape. But, and this is what’s most important, they didn’t do anything about it. The prospect of Arafat’s death was so traumatic for the movement — which had known no other leader during 43 years for Fatah, 36 years for the PLO, and its entire ten year life for the Palestinian Authority. By not taking serious action and giving him better treatment, the key to the mystery is this: His own doctors and movement killed Arafat. So if Israel killed Arafat, then his own doctors and the entire PLO, Fatah, and PA leadership were in on the conspiracy. Indeed, Arafat himself, by not more actively seeking medical help or speaking about his problems, was also in on the conspiracy. This is unlikely.Of course, Arafat was a weird person and in our biography, Arafat: A Political Biography, Judith Colp Rubin and I explain his psychology and personality. One of my favorite Palestinian jokes about Arafat recounts that he is patting the head of a little girl and asks her, “Whose daughter are you?”
She answers, “Yours.” Arafat was considered by his countrymen to be so cold that he didn’t recognize his own begotten daughter. The story is almost plausible.
But I repeat: there is no reason to think Arafat was a homosexual or died of AIDS or poisoning. He was overweight, ate an unhealthy diet, worked long hours, didn’t take care of himself (he believed eating honey would keep him healthy), and had very bad doctors despite their local reputations.
So we know who killed Arafat: his doctors, entourage, movement, and of course his own body. Yet when I go to Yahoo, what do I see but Arafat’s “mysterious” death as the lead story in the entire world, as if any accusation made against Israel must be true.
Note: Here’s a history of the Israel-killed-Arafat tale in Palestinian Media Watch. For more analysis of why the claims are absurd see here and here. Note: Here’s a history of the Israel-killed-Arafat tale in Palestinian Media Watch. For more analysis of why the claims are absurd see here and here. Here’s some more information about the Israeli decision to let Arafat go to Paris. One interesting point is that it implies the French doctors took some action which might have been correct but could also imply that they are at fault for Arafat’s turn for the worse, giving them a motive for not revealing details of his treatment.Hmmmm......The main question is WHY NOW?What are they planning in the very near future, lets say after the reelection of Obama?Read the full story here.

G.W.Bush "We care because we believe that to whom much is given, much is required,".

G.W.Bush "We care because we believe that to whom much is given, much is required,".(CO).George W. Bush opens new health clinic in Zambia. While former U.S. President George W. Bush faces some often harsh criticism as commander in chief from those who claim he led the nation into unpopular wars and additional criticism from opponents who claim he initiated failed economic policies, he has taken on a new role as an advocate for women's health in Africa. Both he and his wife Laura Bush have recently opened a women's health clinic in Kabwe, Zambia. President Bush was in Africa to promote cervical cancer detection and treatment programs for Zambian women, many of whom are living with HIV. "We care because we believe that to whom much is given, much is required," Bush says. "And those of us, who live in America, live in the most blessed nation ever and therefore when we see suffering, we ought to act." The former president has raised more than $85 million for cervical cancer programs, through his George W. Bush Center and other partner organizations. Bush says his goal is to build upon one of the great bipartisan achievements of his presidency. In 2003, Bush's AIDS initiative was initially funded $15 billion-worth of anti-retroviral drugs and treatment to extend the lives of millions of Africans with HIV and AIDS. Zambia currently has the second highest number of cervical cancer cases in the world. Many Zambian women infected with the disease are also living with HIV and have weakened immune systems. "But the saddest thing of all is to know a lady's life has been saved from AIDS but died from cervical cancer," Bush said. "And so starting in Zambia, the Bush Center, along with our partners, are going to put on a cervical cancer crusade to save lives." "He's a very nice person," Chanda says, who is the first patient at the clinic. Pronounced cancer-free by the clinicians there, Chanda says that "I thank him and I am wishing you [him] a happy life, a good life." Bush says he will continue to advocate for global health issues which for him, he says, are a labor of love.Hmmmm......"Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from the bed of illness." ~ Psalm 41:1-3 (NIV).Read the full story here.
