Erdogan, Obama's BFF "Palestinians are kept in the largest open-air prison in the world."(TZ).The World Economic Forum (WEF) began in İstanbul on Tuesday with opening remarks by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Erdoğan delivered a keynote speech at the meeting, more than three years after he stormed off the stage in Davos, Switzerland, during a debate with the Israeli president. During his speech, Erdoğan emphasized Turkey's economic development in the past 10 years. Noting that Turkey's economic success is also linked to Turkey's foreign policy, Erdoğan said the fact that Turkey raises its voice on issues concerning its region does mean it is meddling in other countries' internal affairs. He added that Turkey struggles to main stability in the region and takes action on any crisis in its region as it sees every single crisis as a threat to the region's stability. He also touched on the Palestinian issue. Without mentioning Israel, he said Palestinians were kept in "the largest open-air prison in the world." Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas followed Erdoğan at the podium, giving a speech that was sharply critical of Israel for the deadlocked peace process. Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz and European Union Miniser Egemen Bağış also attended the forum at Swissôtel. The WEF on Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia will last for two days.
