Afghan Clerics' proclaim Fatwa Calls U.S.-Funded NGOs "The Infidels' Unarmed Army," Says Jihad Against Infidels Is Incumbent On All Muslims.(Memri).
Special Dispatch No. 4842.
A copy of the fatwa
In a new fatwa, the Ittehad-e-Ulema Afghanistan (the Alliance of Islamic Clerics in Afghanistan), has ruled that Western-funded schools and mosques in Afghanistan are in violation of Islamic injunctions, as Islam forbids receiving salaries and funds from infidels.
The fatwa – excerpts of which were published by the Afghan Islamic Press, the Pashtu-language Pakistani daily Wrazpanra Wahdat, and The Frontier Post newspaper – was published in Pashtu and signed by clerics from different provinces of Afghanistan. Chief among them was Sheikh Abdullah Zakiri, a religious scholar from the Zakir area of Afghanistan's Kandahar province who played a role in the Afghan jihad against the USSR during the 1980s.
