WOW...Ahmadinejad to defend the Jews? Ahmadinejad Vows to Reveal Hands behind UN's Discriminatory Structure.(Fars). "The UN seems to be meant for defending the rights of nations, but I will reveal what is going on behind the scene of the UN in due time," Ahmadinejad said at Tehran's Mehrabad international airport on Sunday before leaving Tehran for New York to attend the UN General Assembly meeting. "The UN was apparently set up for all nations to benefit from ties and have equal footings, but today we can see the situation of the UN (which is different from what it should be)," he added. Ahmadinejad underlined that progress in the world depends on correcting the global relations and establishment of a just and humane world order, and added, "We should make efforts so that our nation and all nations enjoy their interests." The Iranian president has on many occasions lambasted the present world order dominating the nations' relations in various economic, cultural and political fields, and asked the global community to start a major change in this order. He also has blasted the UN Security Council's discriminatory structure, saying that it has provided certain powers with the chance to misuse their veto-wielding right. "A few countries have the veto power at the Security Council which means the rule of a few states over humanity," Ahmadinejad said in 2010. Also, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has repeatedly underlined the necessity for reforms in the UN structure, and reiterated that Muslims should also have a proper share of the permanent UN Security Council seats. Winners of the Second World War shaped the Charter of the UN in their national interests, dividing the veto-power pertinent to the permanent seats amongst themselves. Even though the geopolitical realities changed drastically since 1945, when the set-up of the current Council was decided, the Security Council has changed very little during this long period. Reform of the United Nations Security Council encompasses five key issues: categories of membership, the question of the veto held by the five permanent members, regional representation, the size of an enlarged Council and its working methods.
