Obama's BFF Erdogan says he wants Israel held to account for Gaza 'massacre'.(HD). Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Israel would be held to account for the children among 40 people dead in three days of air strikes on Gaza.
"Everyone must know that sooner or later there will be a holding to account for the massacre of these innocent children killed inhumanely in Gaza," he said in a speech at Cairo University.
Erdogan, who had earlier met President Mohamed Morsi, has blamed Israel for the latest round of fighting around the Gaza Strip. The United States wants both Turkey and Egypt to pressure Gaza's Hamas rulers to stop firing rockets into Israel.
Turkey would be willing to lean on Hamas to halt rocket attacks on Israel if the United States “provides guarantees,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today in Istanbul ahead of his departure to Cairo for talks on Hamas-Israel violence.
Following pressure from Washington for Turkey to put an end to Hamas’ attacks, Erdoğan said Ankara would be willing to do so on condition that the U.S. provide guarantees but did not elaborate what kind of guarantee Turkey would like to see.
"Israel is breaking the cease-fire in Gaza. We want an immediate cease-fire.
