UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman meets Iranian FM.(Taz).

United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman has met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during his visit to Tehran, Iranian IRINN State TV reported.

According to the report, two sides have discussed regional issues including last developments in Syria.

Before joining the United Nations, Feltman served as US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs from August 2009 to June 2012. He was previously the United States Ambassador to Lebanon from July 2004 to January 2008.

Arab media recently reported that an objective of Sultan's visit to Tehran is to mediate between Iran and the United States.

Zarif said at the meeting that, Iran has no information if Sultan Qaboos carrying a message from a particular country, answering reporters` question due to special mission of Oman's Sultan, yesterday.
But he also underlined that, Iran is ready to hold talks with Sultan Qaboos on issues he is interested in.

Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said has arrived in Tehran, becoming the first high-ranking foreign guest of the newly elected ranian President Hassan Rouhani.

At the meeting Khamenei has underlined the importance of expanding mutual cooperation especially in gas sector.

He went on to note that, region's critical situation linked to different trans-regional interventions. He also criticized using religious and sectarian issues in countries` political dissentions.

Khamenei argued that, Israel's large stockpiles of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) is threatening the region's security.

The region needs public security and it will be realized just when weapons of mass destruction are truly banned, he said.
Oman and Iran, which share control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, maintain friendly relations

Oman has mediated between Iran and the US in a number of cases, including the case of three US citizens who were arrested in Iran in 2009 on illegal entry and espionage charges and were released during 2010 and 2011.
