Putin signs law imposing criminal liability on online extremism. (RBTH).
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill imposing a criminal liability for extremist calls online, according to the official legal news website.
Under the new law, which has been posted on the website, public calls for extremist activities and inciting hatred or animosity, as well as violation of human dignity, involving the use of information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, will entail criminal liability.

The same amendments toughen criminal liability for funding extremism with up to three years of imprisonment, and, in the event of abuse of office, with up to six years.

The law imposes criminal liability for providing or gathering funds or financial services knowingly intended to fund the organizing, plotting and committing of at least one extremist crime or to support the operation of an extremism group or organization.

The bill was passed by the State Duma on June 20 and approved by the Federation Council on June 25.
