Iran has launched production lines for energy density batteries used in the electronic systems of its sea-based, ground-based and air-based missiles.

The production lines, which will enhance the range and accuracy of the country's missile systems, were inaugurated on Aug. 21 in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on the eve of National Defense Industry Day, the country's Press TV reported.

With these production lines coming on stream, said the defense chief, the country has achieved the capability to design state-of-the-art defensive products and achieved self-sufficiency in raw materials required for various missile defense systems.

Dehqan said the accomplishment will contribute to the nation's deterrence capability.

"The breakthrough will help meet all the defensive needs of Iran's Armed Forces as far as energy storage on a large scale is concerned, and help run future development plans in the field of defense systems," the minister underlined.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.

  1. Not giving up your missile program is a clear sign that Iran is intent on preserving its nuclear-capable delivery systems, especially one that has the capacity to deliver a warhead region wide. Iran's current missile technology is capable of striking Israel, Russia and Saudi Arabia. Iran definitely has designs on a longer range weapon and thus be able to exert its dominance and influence on a wider basis. Any discussions in nuclear talks have to take into account the entire lifecycle of the nuclear weapon from fuel enrichment to warhead design to delivery system to guidance. By holding on to delivery systems and in an earlier statement by Khamenei on enrichment, the world knows in clear and simple terms that Iran is focused on possessing nuclear weapons. These talks are simply a way for Iran to stall in order to continue development and gain concessions such as the release of billions in frozen assets without having to give up anything. The P5+1 are pretty much united in not wanting to give Iran this capability so at the end of the day, we're not going to get an agreement and Rouhani has proven to be a mere puppet to Khamenei without an independent moderate bone in his body.
