'Islamist' Turkish Interior Ministry denies documents calling for profiling of students in dorms. (TodaysZaman).
The Interior Ministry has denied the existence of its own official documents acquired by the Zaman daily and published on Monday, in which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) sent instructions to governors across Turkey to profile students in dormitories in particular.
The commissions in the provinces are expected to report to the office of the governor on a monthly basis. Reportedly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs formed a special five-person team for this profiling study. According to sources from the ministry, this team is called the Cosmic Study Group (KÇG), which was inspired by the West Study Group (BÇG) that was established during the Feb. 28 coup era.
The BÇG, which was established under the orders of notorious Gen. Çevik Bir, the most influential soldier of the post-modern military coup at the time, was in charge of profiling citizens who were involved in religious activities. Hmmm...........Lists? Deportations next? Read the full story here.
