Copenhagen terrorist attacks: police kill Suspect in terrorist attacks after two deadly attacks.(Guardian).
A murder manhunt in Copenhagen reached a climax on Sunday morning when a suspect was shot and killed by police, hours after two people died in separate gun attacks at a cafe and then a synagogue in the Danish capital.
After a night of drama and bloodshed Copenhagen police said the man they killed was believed to be the perpetrator from the twin shootings that threw Denmark’s capital into a state of lockdown. The Danish prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, praised police and condemned what she called “a cynical act of terror”.
Later, just after midnight, a Jewish man was shot in the head at a synagogue in the centre of the Danish capital.
With the city locked down, the final exchange of shots came between police and a suspect who arrived at an inner-city address they had under surveillance.
“A person who could be interesting in relation to the investigation arrived at the site,” police said in a statement in the early hours of Sunday. After police called out to him “he opened fire against the police and was thereafter shot”, the statement added.
The scene was near a train station in the multicultural inner-city neighbourhood of Noerrebro. Later, police said they believed the suspect was responsible for both attacks and, while investigations were continuing, they had no initial indications that more than one person was involved.
Police initially swarmed into the heart of the city after a hail of bullets ripped through the glass frontage of the Krudttønden cafe in Østerbro. The attack was said to have been an attempt to murder Lars Vilks, a Swedish artist who had depicted the Muslim prophet Muhammad. Three police were wounded.Read the full story here.
