ISIS wannabe Suicide bomber dead after anti-terror operation in Ontario town.

ISIS wannabe Suicide bomber dead after anti-terror operation in Ontario town. (Napo).

A suspect whom police feared planned to set off a bomb in a major Canadian city was killed Wednesday by police in a Strathroy home.

More details about what the RCMP describe as a “potential terrorism threat” and a possible link to a heavy police presence in a northwest London neighbourhood are expected to be revealed at a news conference Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Aaron Driver. He was originally from Winnipeg and in his mid 20s. A supporter of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, he was the subject of a peace bond after he was detained by RCMP in Winnipeg in June 2015.

The bond stated there are “reasonable grounds to fear that he may participate, contribute directly or indirectly in the activity of a terrorist group.”

A report said the suspect planned to detonate a bomb in public in major Canadian city to inflict mass casualties. Officials feared the attack could have been carried out as early as Wednesday during rush hour. CityNews reports the Toronto Transit Commission and GO Transit were both warned about a possible threat, but not a specific location, before the explosion in Strathroy. Read the full story here.

Islamic State war chief Omar Shishani is "clinically dead".

Red bearded Omar Shishani

Islamic State war chief Omar Shishani is "clinically dead". (NewsWeek).

The minister of war for the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), Abu Omar al-Shishani, also known as Omar the Chechen, is “clinically dead” following a U.S.-led coalition air strike in northern Syria last week, a group that monitors the conflict in Syria said on Sunday.

The Pentagon confirmed that it had targeted Shishani in a strike last week near the northeastern Syrian town of Shaddadi but it could not confirm that he had been killed.

At the time, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which relies on a network of sources and activists on the ground for its information, said that “he did not die” in the strike.

On Sunday, the U.K.-based monitoring group said that the red-bearded general is in hospital after being transferred to Raqqa, Syria.

Shishani is not able to breathe on his own and is using machines,” SOHR head Rami Abdulrahman told AFP news agency. “He has been clinically dead for several days.

Shishani, whose real name is Tarkhan Tayumurazovich Batirashvili, is one of the most wanted ISIS members. Read the full story here.

Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Will Have Church Dedicated to Christian Martyrs executed by ISIS.

Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Will Have Church Dedicated to Christian Martyrs executed by ISIS. (Zenit).

This report is contributed by Oliver Maksan of Aid to the Church in Need.

The gruesome images of the 21 Christians who were beheaded last February by Islamic State terrorists have left a deep imprint on the memory of Christian Egyptians.
Now a new church dedicated to the martyrs—who are formally recognized as such by Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church—will honor their memory in a tangible fashion.
This week—after a long delay—work began on laying the foundations of the new church in the Coptic-Orthodox Diocese of Samalout, from which most of the martyrs came.

The project had been authorized directly by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi shortly after the tragedy, but resistance by local Muslim authorities delayed the start of construction.

Bishop Paphnutius of Samalout said: “We are extremely proud of our martyrs. Although they were forced to kneel before their executioners, they were the stronger. Their murderers were the weaker, despite their weapons. Why would they have concealed their faces otherwise? It could only have been because they were afraid,” he insisted. “Our sons by contrast were very strong and called on our Lord until their very last breath.”

Bishop Paphnutius interprets their martyrdom spiritually. “The Church has always known that the blood of martyrs is the seed of faith. It will remain so until the end of time,” he said.
From Alexandria to Aswan, throughout Egypt, Christians have been strengthened in their faith. Muslims from all over have also told us that they are proud; they say that our martyrs have shown that we Egyptians are very strong. Their death fills all of us, Christians and Muslims alike, with pride.

The crime’s repercussions are still felt today. After all, the martyrs have left widows and children behind. “Thanks to generous donors, we are able to provide for the surviving dependants,” stated Bishop Paphnutius.

Chechen leader Razman Kadirov calls for the introduction of the death penalty in Russia for Islamist terrorists

Chechen leader Razman Kadirov calls for the introduction of the death penalty in Russia for Islamist terrorists. (Zvezda)[GoogleTranslated).

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said it is needed to introduce the death penalty for terrorists in Russia.

In an interview with TV channel "Russia 24" he was of the opinion that the attacks, security forces prevented in Moscow and Grozny, are the beginning of a war that a terrorist group "Islamic State" announced on Russia.

"I am fully behind the proposal. This is a necessary measure for Russia.Feed and keep them (terrorists) in prisons is wrong. They interfere while there, and they are recruiting people there ... They must be destroyed "- Kadyrov explained.

According to the head of the republic, after the start of military operations of the Russian Federation in Syria IS recruiters increased their activity in the Russian regions.

"Islamic state" - Is an international terrorist group,  which proclaimed in the summer of 2014 the creation of a caliphate in the occupied territories it Syria and Iraq. Its activities on the territory of Russia is prohibited.

September 30th Aerospace Russian forces began air operation in Syria directed against militants IS. Besides Russia, the groups fighting against troops loyal to Damascus, the Syrian rebels, Iraqi Army, the Shiite militia, the Kurdish self-defense units and US-led coalition, which also causes the air strikes.

The Philipines: No leads yet on targeted kidnapping of Filipina, two Canadians and one Norwegian in Davao.

The Philipines: No leads yet on kidnappers of Filipina, two Canadians and one Norwegian in Davao. (GlobalNewsInquirer).

The Armed Forces of the Philippines said on Tuesday they still have not identified the armed men who captured three foreigners and a Filipino woman in a luxury resort on Samal Island in Davao del Norte.

No group responsible [for the kidnapping] has been identified” Armed Forces spokespeson Col. Restituto Padilla told reporters at Camp Aguinaldo on Tuesday.

Based on CCTV records of the Holiday Oceanview Resort, Padilla said that 11 men with small firearms took the captives before midnight on Monday.

The foreigners were identified as John Ridsdel and Robert Hall from Canada and Kjartan Sekkingstad of Norway. The Filipino woman was not identified.

Two Japanese nationals tried to prevent the abduction of the other nationals, Padilla said.

The captives were taken away by riding a motorboat but the direction was not known.

Padilla said the abductors could speak fluent English and Filipino.

“For the moment we can assure the public that the joint forces of government led by the police along with the air assets of the air force, the naval assets, are all working hand in hand together with our land forces,” he said.

When asked whether Abu Sayyaf, a terrorist group blamed behind kidnappings and series of bombings in Western Mindanao, was behind the kidnapping, Padilla said they don’t have yet enough information about the abductors.

In 2001, the Abu Sayyaf tried but failed to kidnap foreigners in a resort on Samal Island.

In Sulu, the terrorist group is currently holding nine hostages– four foreigners and five locals.

The Davao region has been relatively peaceful for more than a decade. In 2014, a peace agreement with the largest Muslim rebel group in the south ended 45 years of conflict that had killed about 120,000 people and displaced 2 million.

"Four people were taken but we do not know what group was behind the attack," Caber told reporters. He said there were about 30 foreign tourists at the resort at the time of the raid.

"It appeared the foreigners were the targets, they were not taken at random," he said..

Reports said at least 20 armed men wearing bonnets and black shirts swooped down on the resort and initially took five people. However, a Canadian named Steven and his Japanese wife, Kazuka, were able to flee from their captors.More here.

Video - EU[Rabia]: Who benefits from Muslim mass migration? Only the elite Left

Video - EU[Rabia]: Who benefits from Muslim mass migration? Only the elite Left. HT: The Rebel.

For many of them, this enthusiasm is an act of emotional therapy, especially for guilty white liberal Germans, for whom taking in all these migrants will be akin to committing cultural suicide.

In Europe, as in America, the elite Left's "humanitarian" open borders policy is often just a thinly disguised desire for cheap labour.

Plus all these new "underprivileged" people will suddenly "need" social workers and welfare bureaucrats...

I predict that this mass migration will uncork new bigotry among ordinary citizens, as Europe's good will is taken advantage of.

And that's not all I see happening. Hmmm....Expect 'Far right to rise in EU[Rabia].

Austria to deploy army as part of tougher border controls.

Police at Austrian -Hungarian Border (Source)

Austria to deploy army as part of tougher border controls.(Itv).(HLB)[Google translated].

Austria is following Germany in introducing tougher border controls, and it is deploying the army to assist in dealing with an influx of migrants, Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner has said.

"If Germany carries out border controls, Austria must put strengthened border controls in place. We are doing that now", Mr Mitterlehner said.

At the German border controls today thirty human smugglers have been apprehended near Passau , police said.

The German checks will continue for weeks , said the interior minister of the southern German state of Bavaria , Joachim Herrmann. According to him, the controls are not there to stop refugees, but they are necessary because many people who are not refugees keep up with the flow.

During the past weekend 40 thousand refugees entered Germany, 12 thousand of them entered Munich, where local police said the city is in full capacity and cannot absorb any more refugees. In Austria, 40 people were found in a refrigerator truck. Thirty four immigrants, half of them children, drowned to death yesterday (Sunday) across from Greek shores.

A report of the German intelligence agency claims that extreme Islamic elements in Germany are working to recruit asylum seekers who flow into the country in recent weeks.

“The extremists are trying to approach the young unaccompanied refugees, who arrive in our country without their families and are particularly looking for contacts and support,” a spokesperson for the intelligence service said. “The extremists want to take advantage of the insecurity and distress of the refugees,” he said. Stephen Coughlin, a former Pentagon Intell Analyst on the Refugee flood: "This is truly a clear and present existential threat"

Stephen Coughlin, a former Pentagon Intell Analyst on the Refugee flood: "This is truly a clear and present existential threat"

The U.S. Refugee Resettlement numbers, the sky is the limit?

The U.S. Refugee Resettlement numbers, the sky is the limit? (NationalReview).

The White House announced that it plans to admit 10,000 Syrians next year through the refugee resettlement program, on top of the 1,500 or so we’ve already admitted.
But the number could go much higher, since the president claims the right to “parole” into the United States anyone he wants, in any number he wants, for any reason he wants
As Senator Grassley put it this week after being informed by Secretary of State Kerry of Obama’s 2016 refugee edict: But when pressed, the administration indicated that they were considering opening the floodgates and using emergency authority to go above what they proposed to Congress in today’s consultation. The administration also has not ruled out potentially paroling thousands of Syrians into the United States.

Here’s why we shouldn’t be resettling any more than a handful of Syrians:
Cost. Reihan yesterday at a panel discussion cited a study that found caring for a refugee resettled in Norway costs 25 times more than in the Middle East
In the U.S., such costs are borne almost entirely by the taxpayers of the local communities where the State Department dumps its refugees (without even informing the local authorities).
Even the resettlement groups and local “sponsors,” such as churches, only assume responsibility for their costs for several months, until they’re signed up for welfare; in fact, the main function of “sponsors” is to get refugees signed up for welfare.
That’s why more than 90% of recent Middle Eastern refugees are on welfare. Concern over costs seems to be the basis of a bill offered by Representative Brian Babin (R-Texas) to suspend refugee resettlement until the GAO thoroughly studies its costs. Hmmm......If You Can't Vet'Em properly, You Shouldn't Let 'Em In. Ontario Lib Gov. will spend $10M to bring Syrian refugees to province.

Ontario Lib Gov. will spend $10M to bring Syrian refugees to province. (TheStar).

Ontario will spend $10.5 million to open the province’s doors to 10,000 Syrian refugees, the Star has learned. Premier Kathleen Wynne, who will make an official announcement on Saturday at the COSTI office on College Street, said “the desperate situation” had been building for months.

“So to see this child, it was tragic and hard not relate to your own children, to relate to your own grandchildren,” Wynne said in an interview here Friday, referring to the images of drowned toddler Alan Kurdi, which have shocked the world and spurred calls for action. “There are moments in political life where you just think this is not good enough. We have to now do more. We have to push the system, because the system’s clearly not working.”

Sources say the Ontario government needs Ottawa to expedite the arrival of the refugees while helping to ensure security is kept tight enough so that no terrorists slip into the country.

Likening the humanitarian crisis to a natural disaster, like a tsunami or a flood or a huge forest fire, Wynne said public officials “have to go above and beyond” because exceptional circumstances demand it.

To that end, senior government officials confide that the premier will earmark $8.5 million to help bring 10,000 Syrian refugees to Ontario over the next two years.

That’s money from a new fund that will “backstop” churches, non-governmental organizations, and charities in their efforts to sponsor refugees.

The province cannot directly sponsor refugees under the current process, but Queen’s Park is hopeful that guaranteeing the funding will prove to the federal government that Ontario has “the capacity” to accept more newcomers.

At the same time, Ontario will immediately donate $1 million each to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the World Food Program for relief efforts overseas.(See pic at top of post).

The $10.5 million is in addition to the $330,000 that Queen’s Park has already committed to Lifeline Syria, the Toronto organization that is helping resettle refugees.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper has said Canada will accept 10,000 more refugees over four years in addition to an earlier commitment to help 11,300 people. Canada welcomes around 14,000 refugees annually from around the world.

NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair has pledge to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees within two months of the election. The NDP has promised to help resettle 46,000 Syrians in Canada over four years.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau wants to immediately accept 25,000 refugees.

British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, meanwhile, has earmarked $1 million to assist around 1,000 refugees. Hmmmm.....So the premier is 'sponsoring the food for coming refugees' she did not mention that in her interview. Seems like Wynne is pretty sure the Liberals will win the coming 'rigged?' election. German Paper claims: "Already 29 Syria fighters found among Fugitive stream".

German Paper claims: "Already 29 Syria fighters found among Fugitive stream". (Sueddeutsche).[GoogleTranslated].
"Is Germany a "Hippie-State" who has lost touch with reality, a country that follows his heart and not his brain?"
Ex-Interior Minister Friedrich warns terrorists could come together with the refugees to Germany. Intelligence agencies and experts estimate this risk rather low. More cause for concern them attempts by Islamists to win the refugees upon their arrival in Germany for their goals.

Is Germany a "Hippie-State" who has lost touch with reality, a country that follows his heart and not his brain? Hans-Peter Friedrich has not used these words of the British Politilogen Anthony Glees . But the CSU politician and former Interior Minister is apparently of the opinion that Germany has literally lost his mind when it decided, refugees to leave just arriving from Hungary. Unbureaucratic, without registration, without control.

Germany durchwankt in the eyes of Frederick just a humanitarian drunken stupor. And Friedrich warns of a bad hangover.

In an interview with the Passauer Neue Presse, he refers to the unbureaucratic recording thousands of refugees as "unprecedented political blunder" that would have "devastating long-term consequences."

It was "completely irresponsible" to allow the refugees to enter without being able to estimate "how many of them IS fighters or Islamist sleepers" were. No other country in the world would be such a "naive and naive to expose such a risk," said Friedrich on. "We have lost control."

How silently, which calls not only the alarmist Heckling from Bavaria in memory. This is evident also with a view to the debate in other countries: A Hungarian bishop spoke of a Muslim "invasion", the head of the US Homeland Security Committee warned against the "largest concentration of Islamic terrorists of all time" in Syria and Iraq , a French town wants to refugees only enter when the "absolute security" there, "that there are no terrorists in disguise".

The Passauer Neue Presse has also presented to Friedrich interview a number: 29. So many "proven Syrian fighters" had identified the security authorities already among the asylum seekers. The Interior Ministry immediately denied. Although there were always hints that "may also be IS-combatants among the refugees," said a spokesman for the news agency dpa. "However, no such indication has been concretely confirmed."

The Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced on SZ-request that can not be ruled out "the theoretical possibility for terrorist organizations to smuggle members as asylum-seekers". Reliable findings that jihadists used the refugees as entry route, but it does not give. Even robust findings "for stays of IS-members or -Symapthisanten in refugee camps" were missing so far.

Rauf Ceylan, Islamic scholar at the University of Osnabrück, does not believe in an increased danger of terrorism - and warns of a general suspicion towards Muslim refugees. "These are people who flee from extremists," says Ceylan. "Otherwise, they would have remained in Syria." Even Gerhard Schindler, head of the Federal Intelligence Service, said in a recent image interview: "Refugees are not terrorists." Hmmm.....ISIS would be a fool not to grab this possibility with both hands, and they're not fools, and if not ISIS then other groups of fighters as can be seen here on this facebook page. And in pictures below.Read the full story here.

'Doctors without Morals' - What happened to the British medics who went to join terrorist group Isis?

What happened to the British medics who went to join terrorist group Isis are there more willing to join? (Guardian).

The Observer revealed in March that nine British medical students had crossed the Turkish border into Islamic State territory. As their families despair of seeing them again, what happened next?

It is almost four months since this newspaper revealed that he and eight other British-Sudanese doctors had crossed the Syrian border at Tel Abyad to join Islamic State and answer its call for doctors.

Since the Britons disappeared into Isis’s self-proclaimed caliphate, the Observer has collated testimony from family members, friends and former classmates – speaking for the first time, on condition of anonymity – in an attempt to reconstruct what happened to the five women and four men. Were they safe? Did they want to come home?

Their accounts reveal high-level talks took place to rescue the nine, that they remain in contact with their parents, and that more young British medics than previously thought may have travelled from the Sudanese capital to join Isis.

They also indicate that all were indoctrinated during their studies at Khartoum’s private University of Medical Sciences and Technology by a seemingly benign Islamic organisation that friends claim was a well-oiled “base operation” for Isis to recruit young medics.

More young doctors, they say, have been brainwashed by Isis and remain in Khartoum. Two weeks ago a second group of 12 medical students from the university, including seven Britons, arrived in Turkey in an attempt to cross into Syria.

So far, two brothers from Leicester have been intercepted on their way to the Syrian border and last week were returned to Khartoum. On Saturday night The Foreign Office confirmed it was working with Turkish police to try to prevent the remaining five Britons reaching Isis. At least 17 young British doctors are known to have attempted the journey from Khartoum to Syria. How many more are ready to follow?

What is concerning is that the students who have gone are not the only ones recruited; there are reports of more students currently studying there who have been indoctrinated but have not been told to go,” said a sibling of one of the nine medics inside Syria.

It remains unclear if the British female doctors such as Lena have been married. Although many female foreign arrivals quickly become “jihadi brides,” activists in Raqqa say that Isis’s foreign doctors are viewed differently, allowing them to work unmarried. The caliphate’s strict segregation rules – female medics can operate only on women – and a shortage of female doctors have amplified their worth. Hmmm......Close down that Jihadi breeding nest.Read the full story here.

New 'Modus Operandi for ISIS members. Instead of heading home, going to a third country.

New 'Modus Operandi for ISIS members. Instead of heading home, going to a third country.(Straitstimes).

A 31-year-old north African man was detained after operating for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group in Malaysia for about a year.

The man, who entered the country using a forged student visa in March last year, obtained the visa from a syndicate operating in the Klang Valley.

Sources revealed that the suspect purchased the forged visa for RM5,500 (S$1,960).

"This is a new modus operandi for ISIS members. Instead of heading back to their home countries, these fighters are going to a third country like Malaysia for multiple reasons," a source told The Star yesterday.

Among the reasons were: to set up a base of operations, become the link man for other operatives and to recruit more members.

Tan Sri Khalid added that the man had managed to gain entry into Malaysia by using a forged student visa in March last year.

He added that the suspect had been deported to his home country on WednesdayHmmm.........Catch and release....what could go wrong? Read the full story here.

'US did nothing to stop Ramadi fall to ISIS , This is complicity in [a] conspiracy' : Iranian Commander Soleimani

"US did nothing to stop Ramadi fall to ISIS, This is complicity in [a] conspiracy' : Iranian Commander Soleimani." (Presstv).

Iranian commander Major General Qassem Soleimani has slammed the United States over the recent fall of the Iraqi city of Ramadi to the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group.

Soleimani, who is the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Quds Force, said that while the Ain al-Asad air base hosting US fighter jets was very close to Ramadi, the American military forces took no action to stop the ISIL militants fighting to take over the Iraqi city.

This is not but complicity in [a] conspiracy,” he said during a Sunday gathering of the veterans of the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war against Iran in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman.

“There is no will to fight the ISIL,” Soleimani said in a reference to the US-led coalition that purports to be targeting ISIL targets inside Iraq and Syria.

He also described the ISIL terror group as a “great plague,” which should be countered.

The group, whose members slaughter human beings in cold blood while chanting religious slogans, is a big threat, he said.

On May 17, the ISIL militants managed to bring Ramadi under their control.

The Popular Mobilization forces, one of the volunteer groups who have joined the Iraqi army, were dispatched to Anbar after Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called on them to join the fight to drive the Takfiri militants out of Ramadi.

Adrian Edwards, a spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said on Friday that around 55,000 people had fled Ramadi since mid-May.

Iraq’s former national security advisor told Press TV on Sunday that most US fighter jets deployed to bomb terrorists in the Arab country return to their bases without engaging terrorist positions.

Mowaffak al-Rubaie sharply criticized the US-led airstrikes against the ISIL as ineffective, saying, "from where I sit in Baghdad, eight out of each 10" aircraft loaded with ammunition return to their bases without striking their targets.

Elsewhere in his remarks, General Soleimani said, “Today, no one stands to take up the fight against this dangerous phenomenon (ISIL) but the Islamic Republic.”

Since August 2014, the US and some of its allies have been conducting airstrikes against what they say are ISIL positions in Iraq. Some members of the US-led coalition also started bombarding ‘ISIL targets’ inside Syria in September last year without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

This is while many of the countries joining the so-called anti-terror coalition, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have been the staunch supporters of the Takfiri elements.

The ISIL terrorists currently control swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals. Hmmmm......Obama: 'The future does not belong to those that slander the prophet'.

Iran II - 'Islamist' Turkey’s Energy Min refuses to deliver int’l report on Akkuyu nuclear plant to court.

Iran II - 'Islamist' Turkey’s Energy Min refuses to deliver int’l report on Akkuyu nuclear plant to court. (TZ).

Turkey's Energy Ministry has refused to deliver an international infrastructure report on the country's much-debated Akkuyu nuclear power plant on which construction has started in the country's southern province of Mersin to a court, saying the report concerns the security or interests of the state, a Turkish daily reported.

According to a Hürriyet daily main story published on Thursday, the Turkish government asked the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to prepare a report on Turkey's planned first nuclear power plant.

Turkey Atomic Energy Agency head Zafer Alper and Energy Ministry Undersecretary Metin Kilci received the “Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review” report prepared by the IAEA in February 2014; however, the Turkish government did not make the report public as is common practice in other states such as Poland, the United Arab Emirates and Belarus.

The report, which only Turkey is authorized to publicize as part of the agreement between Turkey and the IAEA, reportedly contains 24 pieces of advice and 15 suggestions for the Turkish government on the controversial nuclear project. Hmmm......'State secret'. Read the full story here.

IS terrorist leader Baghdadi married German teen in Nineveh?

IS terrorist leader Baghdadi married German teen in Nineveh? (IN).

A local source in Nineveh province announced on Wednesday, that the leader of the ISIS organization Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has married German girl in Nineveh court amid intense secrecy.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has gotten married to a German girl at the Diwan of judiciary in Nineveh,” noting that, “The German girl had first arrived in Syria then moved to Nineveh.”

The source, who requested to remain anonymous, added, “Al-Baghdadi tried to keep his marriage a secret,” noting that, “The German woman monitors ISIS women’s affairs in the organization.”

The source stated, “It remains unknown whether al-Baghdadi and his wife are in Nineveh or they’ve moved to Syria.”

It is noteworthy that last June the ISIS organization seized a number of provinces in central and northern Iraq and has committed crimes against humanity in these areas against the population of religious and ethnic minorities, and claimed that it came to restore “the Islamic caliphate” and set its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi himself “Caliph of Islam.” More here.

Nuclear arms race is on - Turkey launches construction of first nuclear power plant

Nuclear arms race is on - Turkey launches construction of first nuclear bomb power plant. (DS).

ANKARA: Turkey launched Tuesday the construction of its first nuclear power plant, a controversial $20 billion project slammed by ecologists which Ankara hopes will begin a new era of greater energy self-sufficiency.

The nuclear power station, in Akkuyu in Mersin province on the shores of the Mediterranean is being built, like Iran's first nuclear power plant, by Russia's nuclear agency Rosatom.

"Development cannot happen in a country without nuclear energy," said Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz at a ceremony attended by the head of Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko and other top officials.

It is the first of three nuclear power plants Turkey currently plans to build to reduce its dependence on importing energy from exporters like Russia and Iran.

The Turkish authorities have swatted away concerns that the Akkuyu facility lies in a seismic zone, saying it can resist quakes registering up to nine on the Richter scale.

However the Akkuyu plant has become a bete noire for environmentalists who have raised alarm about safety issues and the building of the power station in an area rich in wildlife.

Environmental campaign group Greenpeace in January lodged a complaint in court against the awarding of an environmental impact licence to the plant and says it should not be built.

"Turkey is not ready to build nuclear reactors - the country is still missing the key pieces of necessary legislation," Jan Beranek, the director of Greenpeace Mediterranean, told AFP, saying that the seismic assessment had been "totally inadequate."

The project is strongly backed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as part of his plan to make Turkey one of the world's top ten economies. Hmmmm.....What Erdogan wants is nuclear weapons.....period.

Hundreds of women, children again kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram: residents.

Hundreds of women, children again kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram: residents.(TN).

DAMASAK - Boko Haram militants have kidnapped more than 400 women and children from the northern Nigerian town of Damasak that was freed this month by troops from Niger and Chad, residents said on Tuesday.

There was no immediate official confirmation of the figure, but the Islamist group has previously carried out mass kidnappings. Boko Haram's abduction last April of nearly 300 schoolgirls in the region stirred international outrage and drew global attention to the group's six-year insurgency.

"They took 506 young women and children (in Damasak). They killed about 50 of them before leaving," a trader called Souleymane Ali told Reuters in the town. "We don’t know if they killed others after leaving, but they took the rest with them."

Troops from Niger and Chad last week found the bodies of at least 70 people in an apparent execution site under a bridge leading out of Damasak, where the streets remain strewn with debris and burnt-out cars after the fighting.

Ali said his wife and three of his daughters were among those seized.

"Two of them were supposed to get married this year. (Boko Haram) said 'They are slaves so we’re taking them because they belong to us'," he said.

Mohamed Ousmane, another trader, said the militants took his two wives and three of their children.

A 40-year-old resident who gave her name as Fana said fighters had rounded up captives in the main mosque before taking them out of town. She said she saved her two children by hiding them in her house.

Boko Haram wants to carve out a caliphate in northern Nigeria. A sharp increase in violence forced a delay in planned elections last month in Africa's most populous country.Hmmm.......Why did the Obama 'admin' let them grow so much?
