Iranian Justice Minister Calls for Revision of efficiency of Death Penalty.

Iranian Justice Minister Calls for Revision of efficiency of Death Penalty. (IFPnews).

According to a report by ICANA, as translated by IFP, Iranian Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said that death penalty can’t be removed, because there are corrupt people inside the country who can’t be corrected with any other type of punishment.

Therefore, he added, capital punishment should not be rejected given the Islamic law and numerous experiences of other countries.

However, Pour-Mohammadi noted, this type of punishment has not been effective in recent years, and should be revised.

The view is also accepted by the Iranian Judiciary, he said, adding that Judiciary officials are now looking for ways to punish criminals in the best and most effective way possible.

Capital punishment will remain on the Iranian Judiciary’s agenda, but it won’t be implemented as much as it is now.

The Justice Minister’s remarks came one month after 150 lawmakers signed a motion to stop execution of minor drug traffickers.

Islamist leader of Turkey Erdogan declares death penalty will soon be reinstated.

Islamist leader of Turkey Erdogan declares death penalty will soon be reinstated....My note: 'As Sharia dictates'. (TurkishMinute).

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday that legislation to reinstate capital punishment, which was abolished in 2004, will soon be taken to Parliament by the Justice And Development Party (AKP).

“It is soon. … Don’t worry. … It is soon, God willing. … Our government [AKP] will bring it to Parliament. I believe that it will be approved by the legislature. When it comes to me, I will approve it,” said Erdoğan after a group of people chanted “We want the death penalty” during a ceremony in Ankara on Saturday.

Asking why he would approve it, Erdoğan said: “Because what the nation wants will happen. Does not sovereignty, without any condition or reservation, belong to the nation? Yes it does. … Then the issue has been solved.”

“The West says this and that. … Sorry… What is important is not what the West says but my nation,” added Erdoğan, in reaction to criticism from the US and the European Union (EU). Read the full story here.

Flashback to November 2012:
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent remarks on a possible reintroduction of capital punishment have triggered an outcry in the European Union, a leading advocate for its abolition.
Erdogan, famous for his provocative talk, triggered controversy earlier this month when he suggested the death penalty might be brought back due to popular support for the measure, particularly in terror-related cases.
The state cannot forgive a murderer, only the victim's family can, he said, supporting a stance defended by Islam. “Thank God almighty, I am a servant of sharia.” It was 1994, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan was proud to proclaim his Islamist roots in his native Istanbul, where he served as the mayor – or, as he customarily described himself, the city’s “imam.”

Hmmm.....Under Islamic Human rights (CairoDeclaration) all rights are subject to Shariah law, death penalty is no problem.

Turkey - 'Man' who raped nine-month-old Syrian refugee arrested in Turkey.

Turkey - 'Man' who raped nine-month-old Syrian refugee arrested in Turkey. (HD).

A man who allegedly raped a nine-month-old Syrian refugee was arrested in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Aug. 20.

The man, identified by the initials as S.D., was caught after the baby, identified only as E., fell ill, after which doctors determined that she had been sexually assaulted.

The baby was left to S.D. when her family went to work at a farm on Aug. 19, but subsequently took the baby to the İslahiye State Hospital when they realized that she had fallen ill.

The doctors at emergency determined that she had been sexually assaulted and notified the gendarmerie, who later detained S.D., a shepherd at the same farm.

“S.D. was detained shortly after the incident and was arrested. The family and the baby was put under protection by the Family and Social Policies Ministry,” a statement released from Gaziantep Governor’s Office read.

Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya commented on the incident that has caused uproar in Turkey.

“An inhuman incident happened. This disgusting incident created indignation in the public and in my conscience,” she wrote on her Twitter account, as she added that psychological support was being given to the family.

“We will follow the case until the end,” she added.

A lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) also commented on the incident, saying he wanted S.D. to be executed.

“I hope that death penalty will be reintroduced and he will die,” AKP Gaziantep deputy Şamil Tayyar wrote on his Twitter account.

Still, one of the journalists who first broke the story, Hüseyin Şimşek of daily BirGün, faced death threats after reporting on the assault.

PAKISTAN - Appeal court trial for Christian couple sentenced to death for blasphemy.

PAKISTAN - Appeal court trial for Christian couple sentenced to death for blasphemy. (Fides).

Lahore - An appeal has been filed to the Court of Appeal and the first hearing will take place in May regarding a Christian couple Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar.

This was reported to Fides by the team of lawyers of the "Farrukh Saif Foundation", Pakistani organization that has taken on the legal defense of the couple. The two were of accused of sending blasphemous text messages and were sentenced to death in 2014.

On July 20, 2013, the Christian couple, from Gojra, in Punjab, were accused of sending blasphemous text messages and were later arrested.
"The text messages were written in English but both of the accused were uneducated and incapable of writing proper Urdu let alone English", note the lawyers.
Shafqat is also confined to a wheelchair due to an accident in 2004 that resulted in him suffering a spinal injury.

The local police proceeded to torture him in front of his wife. He pleaded for mercy while the police continued in their attempts to extract a confession from him.

On 4 April 2014 the couple were given death "although the police failed to recover any mobile phone or SIM card allegedly registered in Shagufta’s name", refer the lawyers. The only evidence produced by the local police was the receipt from the phone company.

"Addition Sessions judge succumbed to Islamist pressure and handed down the death sentence", reaffirm the lawyers. The whole trial was concluded inside the boundary walls of the prison due to fears for the couple’s security. The couple have four children and activists of the "Farrukh Saif Foundation" are taking care of them.

"The blasphemy law, misused, has put hundreds of members of minority communities behind bars. The law is grossly abused to target minorities", say the lawyers of the "Farrukh Saif Foundation" to Fides. "In most cases, people are falsely and maliciously accused, just for personal revenge" they conclude. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 27/04/2016)

In the first case, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped allegedly by two men who abducted her on a motorbike from outside her house in west Delhi's Nangloi area on Friday. Neighbours later found her lying unconscious at a nearby park. She was profusely bleeding.

The girl's mother has claimed that her daughter was abducted while she was watching a ramleela performance near her house. "My girl was watching ramleela when there was a power cut. That is when they kidnapped her," she said.

The girl has suffered severe damage to her private parts and has bites marks on her body, said Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women who visited her today. "Woke up to 2 incidents of gangrape of a 2.5 year old n 5 year old. Bleeding not stopping for 2.5 year old. On way to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital (sic)," she had posted on Twitter this morning.

No arrests have been made in the case so far.

The same day, a five-year-old was raped allegedly by three men in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The girl was reportedly alone at home when one of the accused, her neighbor, took her to his house and then allegedly raped her along with his friends.

Her neighbours saw her coming out of the accused's house and informed the police. "She was crying and her clothes were soaked with blood," one of them has told police. All three accused have been arrested.

IHR: 'Situation of the death penalty has deteriorated significantly during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani'

In 2012 Ahmadinejad stopped executions still Rouhani managed to hang in 2 months as many as Ahmadinejad hanged in 6 months.

IHR: 'Situation of the death penalty has deteriorated significantly during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani'. (IHR).

Annual 2014 Report at a Glance.

753 people were executed in 2014 (10% increase compared to 2013)

291 cases (39%) were announced by official sources

49% (367) were executed for drug-related charges

32% (240) were executed for murder charges

53 executions were conducted in public spaces

At least 14 juvenile offenders were among those executed

At least 26 women were executed

At least 4 people were resuscitated after being hanged.

The present report is being published while diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the international community are at their strongest following the election of Hassan Rouhani as Iran’s president in June 2013.

In 2014 there have been high level meetings between the Iranian authorities and governments of many Western countries. In addition to visits by hundreds of lawmakers and politicians from the Western countries, top EU officials and foreign ministers of several countries including Norway, Sweden, Italy, Spain and Austria have visited Tehran. Dozens of high level meetings involving Iranian leaders have taken place on the international stage.

In spite of this level of engagement, the data collected by Iran Human Rights (IHR) and published in this report show that the number of executions conducted in 2014 is the highest in more than 15 years.

Moreover, a comparison of the execution rates in the 18 months before and after the election of Mr. Rouhani shows a significant increase in the use of the death penalty after Rouhani’s election.

There has also been the highest number of reported juvenile executions since 1990.

In addition, Iranian authorities continue execution for non-violent civil and political activists.

Executions of Arab teachers, Hadi Rashedi and Hashem Shabani, who belonged to an Arabic cultural group called “Al-Hiwar” (dialogue)[2], Gholamreza Khosravi, charged with giving economic support to a banned opposition group[3] and Mohsen Amir Aslani charged with insulting the Prophet Jonah and heresy[4], are just few examples of this practice.

The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence for Soheil Arabi, for insulting the Prophet on Facebook and he remains in danger of execution[5].

This report raises the question whether the use of death penalty has been an issue in the bilateral dialogue between Iran and the countries which are the main promoters of abolition of the death penalty on the international scene. If the death penalty is an important issue in these talks, why are the execution numbers rising at the same time as the diplomatic relations are increasingly flourishing? And more importantly, what specific measures are the international community going to take in order to counteract this trend?

Commenting the report Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the director and spokesperson of IHR said, “Despite the improving relations between the international community and Iran, the situation of the death penalty has deteriorated significantly during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani. This trend cannot continue. Restriction of the use of the death penalty must be one of the top demands in any dialogue between the international community and Iran. It is time to show that human rights also benefit from these dialogues.” Hmmm.........Obama's  new BFF Iran. The Europeans out of greed would whitewash any action of the Mullahs their regime, just in order for good deals and cheap gas. Politicians have become traders for the global markets, human values and rights have no place in the wallets of these guys. Read the full report here. Download here.

Human Rights Chief Calls Iran Role-Model of Democracy in Middle-East. ...NOT the Onion.

Human Rights Chief Calls Iran Role-Model of Democracy in Middle-East....NOT the Onion. (Fars).

Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani said Iran attaches vital importance to respect for and practice of human rights and its has now become a role model of democracy in the Middle-East region.

"All the democratic structures in Iran have been defined within the framework of Islamic rationale to find their real meaning, and this way a new big democracy has emerged in the Middle-East which can be a role model," Larijani said in a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein in Tehran on Wednesday.

He further explained that human rights is an indispensable aspect of Iran's civil development, and added, "Naturally, human rights is neither an American nor a western concept to us, rather it has a logic grown in the same atmosphere of Islamic rationale."

Larijani stressed the vital importance of respect for and exercise of human rights values to Iran, saying that human rights is no marginal issue for the Islamic Republic.

In similar remarks in January, Larijani underlined that the country attaches much importance to respect for human rights, but doesn’t accept the human rights norms and standards imposed by the western states.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s affinity for human rights is rooted in its Islamic and cultural principles and we don’t accept the West-imposed human rights (principles) which want to change our way of life (lifestyle),” Larijani said in a meeting with a visiting Irish delegation in Tehran.

He underlined Tehran’s deep respect for human rights, and said, “We have extensive plans in area of human rights and establishment of Iran’s Human Rights Council with such a structure and extent shows its importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

In relevant remarks in December, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham underlined that Iran expected the western states to develop a completely different and new approach to human rights issues.

“As regards the human rights issues we demand a new and different approach by the West,” Afkham said, addressing a weekly press conference in Tehran.

She stressed that if the western countries adopted a constructive approach and far from politicization, there would be the possibility of cooperation in different areas, including human rights.

The foreign ministry spokeswoman underlined that Iran had clear stances on human rights issues, and said, “We have laid emphasis on avoiding politicization of human rights debates and rejected the (West's) double-standard approach in our talks with different European officials in the past and the present."

Former Iranian intelligence minister accuses UK of acid attacks on women.

Former Iranian intelligence minister accuses UK of acid attacks on women. (Taz).

Former Iranian minister of intelligence, Heydar Moslehi has claimed that foreign intelligence services are behind the recent acid attacks on women in Iran’s central Isfahan city, Iran’s Fars news agency reported Oct. 30.

He said that it is not the coincidence that the acid attacks and the proposal of the “enjoining good and forbidding wrong” bill in the country's parliament happened about at the same time.

"Enjoining good and forbidding wrong", or promotion of virtue and prevention of vice is an Islamic doctrine mentioned in the Quran.

The bill which was submitted by hardliners in Iran’s parliament would legalize vigilantes who patrol the streets and warn others about their behavior.

The former intelligence minister called the acid attacks as a part of conspiracy to confront the “enjoining good and forbidding wrong” doctrine.

“The intelligence services of the UK are behind the conspiracy,” he said.

It should be noted that in the last weeks at least seven women became victims of acid attacks by unknown motorcyclists. The latest incident happened on the night of Oct. 15. Unknown persons on motorcycles threw acid at her while she was in her car. The attacks have left some of the victims badly burned, disfigured, and blind.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, following the incidents, urged the relevant government structures to handle the acid attack cases.

Some people claimed on social networks said that the reason for these acid attacks were the fault of the women, who violated the Islamic dress code in the city. The attacks have sparked outrage and fear among many Iranians who last week took to the streets of Isfahan and Tehran to protest and call for government action.

In recent days, some Iranian officials have warned the media over their coverage of the crimes, accusing them of promoting the “views of the enemy.”

According to the report, the victims of the new wave of acid attacks which have been carried out in past few days reaches over two dozen in the city of Esfahan that once was a main tourist attraction in Iran.

According to the information received from Iran, the families of victims of acid attack have been warned against publishing the photos of the victims or giving interviews with news agencies.

One of the victims said: “The attackers belonged to Ansar-e Hezbollah group.”

It has been described as an "offshoot" [6] or "vigilante associate" of the Iranian Hezbollah,[7] a loose-knit movement of groups formed at the time of the Iranian Revolution to assist the Ayatollah Khomeini and his forces in consolidating power.

Topless FEMEN activists protest in front of........Iranian embassy.

Topless FEMEN activists protest in front of........Iranian embassy.(Khaama).

A group of topless FEMEN activists protested against the execution of a woman in front of the Iranian embassy in Berlin.

The young women condemned the Iranian government for executing Reyhaneh Jabbari and expressed their frustration with the Sharia Law. The 26-year-old Reyhaneh Jabbari was hanged on Saturday after she was convicted in 2009 of murdering a former Iranian intelligence official she accused of raping her.

She was hanged to death despite repeated calls from Amnesty International and United Nations to halt the execution.

The Amnesty International described the execution as “deeply disappointing in the extreme”. Jabbari had failed to secure a reprieve from the dead man’s relatives within the 10-day deadline set by sharia law in force since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Hmmm....For once they did choose a good cause.

Senior Iranian Cleric Condemns Upholding of Saudi Cleric’s Death Ruling, still OK To hang women.

Senior Iranian Cleric Condemns Upholding of Saudi Cleric’s Death Ruling, still OK To hang women.(Fars).

Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani condemned Saudi Arabia for upholding the death sentence given to prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, and warned Riyadh to change its decision.

Addressing a large and fervent congregation of the people on Tehran University campus on Friday, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani said, "We warn Saudi Arabia to be careful that in a country with over 30 percent of Shiite population it will have to pay a heavy price for executing a Shiite cleric."

Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani also blasted the so-called advocates of Human Rights for remaining silent about upholding the death sentence of Sheikh al-Nimr.

A court in Saudi Arabia upheld a death sentence given to Sheikh al-Nimr.

A Saudi court had recently sentenced Sheikh Nimr to death. However, the enforcement of the ruling has been postponed.

The senior Shiite cleric is accused of delivering anti-government speeches and defending political prisoners. Hmmmm....Can't have clerics being hanged what is this world coming to?

Iran: Reyaneh Jabbari hanged. HT: NCRI.

The Iranian regime’s henchman hanged Reyhaneh Jabbari after being sentenced to death for stabbing an agent of the regime’s intelligence that tried to sexually abuse her.

Ms. Rayhaneh Jabbari, a decorator, was in prison since seven and a half years ago.

In a deceptive scheme, Morteza Abdulali Sarbandi, an agent of the Iranian regime's notorious Ministry of Inteligence and Security (MOIS) intended to abuse her. Rayhaneh was forced into defending herself by stabbing the agent.

The henchmen of the clerical regime placed Rayhaneh under savage tortures to extract forced confession.

Reyahneh's mother, Ms. Sholeh Pakravan was informed late on Friday that her dauther might be executed. She met with her dauther for one hour. Authorities at the prison refused to give any information to Reyhaneh's family about where she would be transferred for execution.

Finally, early morning on Saturday Reyhaneh was hanged as a nearly one hundred people including her mother and family friends were gathered outside Gohardasht prison in the city of Karaj.

Hmmm....'Moderate' pres Rouhani hanged more people in the first two months of his presidency then Ahmadinejad did in six months in 2012 !

Iran: Text of Hanged Reyhaneh Jabbari's will in a voice message to her mother

Iran: Text of Hanged Reyhaneh Jabbari's will in a voice message to her mother. (NCRI).
Reyhaneh Jabbari, the Iranian woman who was hanged today by the Iranian regime’s henchman after 7 years imprisonment had released her will in a voice message.
In a heart-rending message to her family in April - beginning with her mother Sholeh - 26-year-old Rayhaneh Jabbari tells how she trusted the law, but has faced death for the crime of defending herself against an agent of Iranian regime’s intelligence who tried to abuse her.

English translation of Reyhaneh Jabbari's will.

Dear Sholeh, today I learned that it is now my turn to face Qisas (the Iranian regime's law of retribution). I am hurt as to why you did not let me know yourself that I have reached the last page of the book of my life. Don’t you think that I should know? You know how ashamed I am that you are sad. Why did you not take the chance for me to kiss your hand and that of dad?

The world allowed me to live for 19 years. That ominous night it was I that should have been killed. My body would have been thrown in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner’s office to identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well. The murderer would have never been found since we don’t have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that.

However, with that cursed blow the story changed. My body was not thrown aside, but into the grave of Evin Prison and its solitary wards, and now the grave-like prison of Shahr-e Ray. But give in to the fate and don’t complain. You know better that death is not the end of life.

You taught me that one comes to this world to gain an experience and learn a lesson and with each birth a responsibility is put on one’s shoulder. I learned that sometimes one has to fight. I do remember when you told me that the carriage man protested the man who was flogging me, but the flogger hit the lash on his head and face that ultimately led to his death. You told me that for creating a value one should persevere even if one dies.

You taught us that as we go to school one should be a lady in face of the quarrels and complaints. Do you remember how much you underlined the way we behave? Your experience was incorrect. When this incident happened, my teachings did not help me. Being presented in court made me appear as a cold-blooded murderer and a ruthless criminal. I shed no tears. I did not beg. I did not cry my head off since I trusted the law.

But I was charged with being indifferent in face of a crime. You see, I didn’t even kill the mosquitoes and I threw away the cockroaches by taking them by their antennas. Now I have become a premeditated murderer. My treatment of the animals was interpreted as being inclined to be a boy and the judge didn’t even trouble himself to look at the fact that at the time of the incident I had long and polished nails.

How optimistic was he who expected justice from the judges! He never questioned the fact that my hands are not coarse like those of a sportswoman, especially a boxer. And this country that you planted its love in me never wanted me and no one supported me when under the blows of the interrogator I was crying out and I was hearing the most vulgar terms. When I shed the last sign of beauty from myself by shaving my hair I was rewarded: 11 days in solitary.

Dear Sholeh, don’t cry for what you are hearing. On the first day that in the police office an old unmarried agent hurt me for my nails I understood that beauty is not looked for in this era. The beauty of looks, beauty of thoughts and wishes, a beautiful handwriting, beauty of the eyes and vision, and even beauty of a nice voice.

My dear mother, my ideology has changed and you are not responsible for it. My words are unending and I gave it all to someone so that when I am executed without your presence and knowledge, it would be given to you. I left you much handwritten material as my heritage.

However, before my death I want something from you, that you have to provide for me with all your might and in any way that you can. In fact this is the only thing I want from this world, this country and you. I know you need time for this. Therefore, I am telling you part of my will sooner. Please don’t cry and listen. I want you to go to the court and tell them my request. I cannot write such a letter from inside the prison that would be approved by the head of prison; so once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that if even you beg for it I would not become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.

My kind mother, dear Sholeh, the one more dear to me than my life, I don’t want to rot under the soil. I don’t want my eye or my young heart to turn into dust. Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye, bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as a gift. I don’t want the recipient know my name, buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me. I am telling you from the bottom of my heart that I don’t want to have a grave for you to come and mourn there and suffer. I don’t want you to wear black clothing for me. Do your best to forget my difficult days. Give me to the wind to take away.

The world did not love us. It did not want my fate. And now I am giving in to it and embrace the death. Because in the court of God I will charge the inspectors, I will charge inspector Shamlou, I will charge judge, and the judges of country’s Supreme Court that beat me up when I was awake and did not refrain from harassing me. In the court of the creator I will charge Dr. Farvandi, I will charge Qassem Shabani and all those that out of ignorance or with their lies wronged me and trampled on my rights and didn’t pay heed to the fact that sometimes what appears as reality is different from it.
Dear soft-hearted Sholeh, in the other world it is you and me who are the accusers and others who are the accused. Let’s see what God wants. I wanted to embrace you until I die. I love you.

Rayhaneh,
April 1, 2014.

Egyptian court confirms death sentences against Muslim Brotherhood leader and nearly 200 supporters.

Egyptian court confirms death sentences against Brotherhood leader, nearly 200 supporters. (Taz).

An Egyptian court confirmed on Saturday death sentences against the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and 182 supporters, a strong sign that the crackdown on the group will continue under new President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Reuters reported.

Mohamed Badie and other defendants were charged over violence that erupted in the southern Egyptian town of Minya following the ouster, led by former army chief Sisi, of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, a senior Brotherhood member, last July.

One police officer was killed in the violence.

The court's decision came two months after it referred the case against Badie, general guide of the now outlawed Brotherhood, and 682 other defendants to a top religious authority, the first step to imposing a death penalty.

Those preliminary sentences triggered outrage among Western governments and rights groups, with the United States and European Union both saying they were appalled by the rulings.

Saturday's decision comes just two weeks after Sisi took office as president after winning an election in May. Since Mursi's overthrow last year, which was followed by protests by his supporters, hundreds of Islamist protesters have been killed and thousands jailed in a crackdown by security forces.

In the run-up to the election, Sisi said that the Brotherhood - Egypt's oldest, most organized and successful political group - was finished and would not exist under his rule.

Amnesty International described Saturday's verdicts as "the latest example of the Egyptian judiciary's bid to crush dissent".

There was no immediate reaction on the ruling from the Brotherhood, whose members are either in jail or on the run, but the streets around the court compound and in most Egyptian cities remained quiet.

Out of a total 683 defendants, around 100 are in detention and the rest were tried in absentia. Four were jailed for life while 496 were acquitted, according to judiciary sources. All verdicts can be appealed before a higher court.

"Those rulings are a continued farce," prominent Egyptian human rights activist and lawyer Gamal Eid said on Saturday. "And the state is still insisting that the judiciary is independent. I don't know how we can believe that when we see rulings like that. It is against logic and common sense. It is a joke."

OTHER CASES

The same court had a few months ago confirmed death sentences on 37 Brotherhood supporters in rulings that were part of a final judgment on 528 Muslim Brotherhood supporters who had received initial death sentences.

In a separate case, a Cairo court referred Badie and 13 other Brotherhood supporters on Thursday to the Mufti, a top religious authority, on charges of murder and firearms possession related to clashes during the protests last July. Around 500 army and police officers have been killed since Mursi's fall.

Badie and other senior Brotherhood leaders including Mursi are standing trial in other cases.

Sisi, late on Friday, held a brief meeting at Cairo airport with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah whose country, like Egypt, has branded the Brotherhood a terrorist organization, viewing its Islamist doctrines as a threat to Saudi dynastic rule.

The Egyptian state had in November issued a law that banned protests without police permission. Many liberal and Islamist activists have been arrested in the past few months for protesting without a license.

Outside the Minya court compound on Saturday, around 200 people, mostly relatives of defendants that were freed, gathered to celebrate the ruling. "Long live justice, long live Sisi," they chanted.

Iran: Death row young woman leaves 'J'accuse' style will to mother from prison.

Iran: Death row young woman leaves 'J'accuse' style will to mother from prison.HT: NCRI.
An Iranian prisoner facing imminent execution has released her will in a voice message from prison.
In a heart-rending message to her family - beginning with her mother Sholeh - 26-year-old Rayhaneh Jabbari tells how she trusted the law, but is now facing death for the crime of defending herself against an agent of Iranian regime’s intelligence who tried to assault her.

The clerical regime has ignored international calls and human rights activists calls in Iran to spare her life.

The will reads:

I love you.

"Islamist" Turkey can restore death penalty.

"Islamist" Turkey can restore death penalty.(Taz).

Death penalty can be restored in Turkey, Turkish Haber 7 TV channel quoted the country's Health Minister Mehmet Muazzinoglu as saying on May 2.

Currently, Turkey's government bodies are considering the issue regarding the restoration of death penalty in the country, the minister added.

Muazzinoglu said he considers this measure necessary, since four children have been raped and killed in Turley's various cities over the last two months.

Death penalty in Turkey was abolished in 2004 as part of the reforms aimed at the country's accession to the European Union.Hmmm.....Erdogan: "Thank God i'm a servant of Sharia"

Human rights groups call on 'Moderate' Iran’s regime to stop violent repression of gays

'We don't have any gays in Iran,' Iranian president Ahmadinejad.
Human rights groups call on 'Moderate' Iran’s regime to stop violent repression of gays.(Jpost).

BERLIN – Human rights activists from international organizations ramped up their pressure in a late December letter to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, calling on him to swiftly end Iran’s persecution of its lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender community.

The letter cited the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps arresting gay Iranians at a birthday party in October as one example of a list of violent attacks against LGBT Iranians.

According to the letter, 50 members of the Nabi Akram Brigade of the Revolutionary Guards stormed the party in the city of Kermanshahin in western Iran. “Armed members of the security forces verbally abused, assaulted, and beat many of the 80 or so people attending the party, as well as waiters and other staff.”

Kermanshah Province’s Basij Forces – a state-sponsored shock troop – issued a statement that their aim was to end a “homosexual and Satan-worshiping network with dozens of [members].”

The signatories of the letter to Rouhani are from Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, and the Iranian Queer Organization-IRQO.

They slammed Iran for its Islamic Penal Code.

The anti-gay code “criminalizes any freely and mutually agreed same-sex relations, with punishment ranging from 100 lashes for consensual sexual relations between women (Article 239) to the death penalty for consensual sexual intercourse between men (Article 234). The law also criminalizes other acts between members of the same sex, including touching and intimate kissing, which are punishable by up to 74 lashes (Article 237).”

The human rights representatives called on Iran to repeal its anti-LGBT laws. It is unclear whether Rouhani responded to the letter.

“Nothing essential has changed. The structure is still the same. It’s a play, a comic and ugly performance. They’re relying on the naiveté of people to be able to succeed,” said the openly gay Iranian poet Payam Feili last year about Rouhani’s tenure.Read the full story here.

Saudi Air Force Sergeant Accused of Kidnapping & raping boy younger than 14 in Vegas.

Saudi executioner

Saudi Air Force Sergeant Accused of Kidnapping and raping boy younger than 14 in Vegas.(Yahoo).LAS VEGAS (AP) —A sergeant in Saudi Arabia's air force was jailed in Las Vegas on charges that he pulled a boy into a hotel room and sexually assaulted him the morning of Sin City's big New Year's Eve fireworks extravaganza.
Mazen Alotaibi, 23, faces charges including kidnapping, sexual assault with a minor and felony coercion that could get him decades in state prison, according to police and charging documents obtained Friday.
The boy, who is younger than 14, told police the man forced him into a room at the Circus Circus hotel on the Las Vegas Strip and raped him. Police arrested Alotaibi after being called to the hotel before 9:30 a.m. Dec. 31.
"There was a kidnapping and sexual assault with force," Las Vegas police Lt. Dan McGrath said. "The victim said he was forced into the room and sexually assaulted. We have a strong case based on the evidence."
The boy, who lives out of state, was staying at the hotel with his family, McGrath said. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and evidence collection and released later to family members. His name was not made public.
McGrath said Alotaibi produced a Saudi Arabian military identification and said he was stationed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland near San Antonio, Texas. U.S. federal authorities and Saudi military officials were notified, the police lieutenant said.
Alotaibi's lawyer, Don Chairez of Newport Beach, Calif., said Friday he had been in contact with U.S. military authorities at both air force bases and with the Saudi government. He said Alotaibi had come to Las Vegas for the New Year's celebration and will plead not guilty.
Alotaibi also is charged with burglary, which in Nevada can stem from a person entering a building with intent to commit a felony.Hmmmm....."What happens in Vegas....doesn't always stay in Vegas."Read the full story here.

UN experts call on Iran to halt executions, including 11 planned for Saturday.

UN experts call on Iran to halt executions, including 11 planned for Saturday.(TI).A group of independent United Nations human rights experts on Friday called on Iran to immediately halt all executions, particularly the 11 reported to be scheduled for Saturday, and establish a moratorium with the aim of abolishing the death penalty, UN News Centre reported. "We urge the Iranian authorities to stop the executions of Saeed Sedeghi and 10 other individuals scheduled for Saturday, 13 October," said the UN Special Rapporteurs on Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, on extrajudicial executions, Christof Heyns, and on torture, Juan E. Méndez. Mr. Sedeghi was sentenced to death on 2 June 2012 for drug-related offences. According to available information, Mr. Sedeghi did not receive a fair trial and was subjected to torture during his detention, according to a news release from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). "Any death sentence must comply with international obligations related to the stringent respect of fair trial and due process guarantees, as stipulated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which the Islamic Republic of Iran is a State party," the experts stressed.
"In countries which have not abolished the death penalty, the sentence of death can be imposed only for the most serious crimes, which do not include drug crimes. Cases that do not meet these standards are tantamount to arbitrary executions," noted the experts, who are tasked by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council with examining and reporting back, in an unpaid capacity, on specific human rights themes.
"We have repeatedly urged Iran to halt executions," they added. "We regret, however, that instead of heeding our calls, the Iranian authorities have stepped up the use of the death penalty."
Over 300 people are known to have been executed since the beginning of 2012, the majority in respect of drug-related activities. A large number is reportedly on death row, and face risk of imminent execution.
The 10th International Day against the Death Penalty was observed two days ago, and the experts said they were "appalled" that this event has been overshadowed by an increase in the number of executions in Iran. "Iran is no doubt aware, the international community as a whole is moving towards complying in law and in practice with the international standards in respect to the death penalty," they stated, urging the authorities to establish a moratorium with a view to abolishing the death penalty. The overall global trend on the use of the death penalty has seen the number of executions worldwide decline, according to OHCHR. An estimated 150 UN Member States have abolished the death penalty or introduced a moratorium, either in law or practice.Read the full story here.
