Ex-Gitmo detainee Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar arrested in France - allegedly part of "recruiting network linked to" ISIS.

Ex-Gitmo detainee Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar arrested in France - allegedly part of "recruiting network linked to" ISIS. (nydailynews).
Detainee Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar has demonstrated a commitment to jihad, and would likely engage in anti-US activities if released.
A former Guantanamo Bay inmate released by the Obama 'admin' is among six people from an alleged jihadi recruiting network linked to the Islamic State group who were detained on Tuesday, a French judicial source said.
Among the suspects arrested was Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar, who was freed from the U.S. detention center in Cuba in 2009 after France agreed to accept him, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the case.
Lahmar was one of six Algerians detained in Bosnia in 2001 on suspicion of plotting to bomb the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo. The Justice Department later backed off the allegations, but held the men at Guantanamo for years. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy agreed to take him in April 2009, and Lahmar moved to Bordeaux later that year.
The French official said Lamar, at 48, is the oldest of the four men and two women who were arrested and said that there were no indications the group was plotting an attack.
Five of the suspects were detained in Bordeaux, one in Paris.

Murky details emerge of the 'deal' that Hussein Obama struck with Iran.

Murky details emerge of the 'deal' that Hussein Obama struck with Iran. (AlArabia).

More than a year ago on January 17, 2016, then President Barack Obama announced on TV the nuclear deal with Iran and also another secretly concluded deal securing freedom for four Iranian-Americans incarcerated by Tehran.

In exchange, Obama said he had granted clemency to six Iranian-Americans and one Iranian man convicted or awaiting trial or appeal in the US for violations of US sanctions laws. He made clear that they were not charged with “terrorism or any violent offenses.”

Politico has published the list and details of those individuals involved in the deal – the four Iranian-Americans freed by Tehran, the seven who were granted clemency in the US, and also the 14 that Obama did not mention at all – Iranian fugitives wanted by the US that the administration dropped charges and international arrest warrants against, citing foreign policy interests and the low likelihood of capturing them.

Those who were awaiting trial or appeal in the US and the Iranian-Americans held by Iran, have all asserted their innocence and portrayed themselves as political pawns in the often-contentious relationship between the US and Iran.

The 14 fugitives whose cases and international arrest warrants were dropped: These case histories have been compiled from federal court documents and other records, based on identities of the men initially disclosed by Iran’s FARS news service.

  1. Seyed Abolfazl Shahab Jamili, an Iranian import-export businessman charged with procuring nuclear-related equipment for Iran from 2005 through 2012, including conspiring with Chinese associate Sihai Cheng to obtain hundreds of US-made pressure transducers for the gas centrifuges Iran used to secretly enrich uranium.

  2. Amin Ravan, an Iranian citizen known to be a long-time procurement agent for Iran, Ravan and his Iran-based company IC Market Iran were charged with smuggling US-made military antennas to Hong Kong and Singapore to acquire the antennas and a wide array of other components for users in Iran. He was also charged with helping Iran acquire US radio frequency modules and other components that were used in IEDs that was responsible for killing many American troops in Iraq.

  3. Behrouz Dolatzadeh, an Iranian citizen and longtime weapons smuggler for Iran. He was indicted and charged in connection with an alleged scheme to buy thousands of US-made assault rifles for ultimate use in Iran.

  4. Hamid Arabnejad, Gholamreza Mahmoudi and Ali Moattar were Iranian citizens and executives at Mahan Air, and were indicted in connection with a conspiracy to illegally obtain by lease agreement for as many as six Boeing airplanes on behalf of the private Iranian airline.

  5. Matin Sadeghi, a Turkish national indicted as part of Bahram Mechanic’s Houston-based procurement network, Sadeghi allegedly used his Istanbul trading company as an intermediary shipping point for dual-use US-origin electronics exported illegally to Iran, including commodities “frequently used in a wide range of military systems, including surface-air and cruise missiles.”

  6. Koorush Taherkhani, an Iranian national and alleged co-conspirator in Ghahreman’s procurement network, Taherkhani used hise firm as a front company to acquire US-made navigation equipment for use in Iran.

  7. Alireza Moazami Goudarzi, an Iranian citizen, Goudarzi was charged in connection with an international conspiracy to illegally procure US aircraft parts to Iran, including rotor blades for attack helicopters and other military and restricted aviation components.

  8. Jalal Salami, a dual US and Iranian citizen who conspired to procure US electronic components use in Iran through Malaysia. Two others, Iranian citizens Sajad Farhadi and Seyed Ahmad Abtahi, were also part of the procurement network, prosecutors said.

  9. Mohammed A. Sharbaf, an Iranian citizen indicted for allegedly being part of a conspiracy to procure US-origin forklift parts in violation of American sanctions.

  10. Mohammad Abbas Mohammadi, an Iranian citizen charged with conspiring to illegally procure US-origin aircraft parts – including engines – for use in civilian and military aircraft in Iran.

Iran Takes Stand On Nuclear Deal Heavy water Provision That Clashes With U.S. View.

Iran Takes Stand On Nuclear Deal Heavy water Provision That Clashes With U.S. View. (rferl).

Iran is questioning a provision of its nuclear deal with world powers in a way that could lead to confrontation with the United States.

The 2015 deal restricts Iran from accumulating a large stock of heavy water, which is used in scientific research as well as in nuclear reactors that produce plutonium.

Iran has been producing heavy water in large quantities and has already exceeded a prescribed 130-ton limit on its stock twice.

Tehran defused a standoff with Washington over the issue in December by shipping excess water to Oman, where it is being stored until a buyer can be found.

In a letter to the United Nations nuclear watchdog made public on March 17, Iran is arguing that the deal does not require it to ship excess water out of the country if it can't immediately find buyers.

The deal only says all excess water "will be made available for export to the international market based on international prices and delivered to the international buyer," Tehran argued.

But the Trump White House has taken a tough stand on strictly enforcing the nuclear deal and the United States last week told the UN that "any excess heavy water...cannot remain in Iran."

Obama 'Admin' Failed to Stop Mexican Cartel Murder of ICE Agent with Smuggled Guns.

Obama DOJ Failed to Stop Mexican Cartel Murder of ICE Agent with Smuggled Guns.HT: JudicialWatch.

The Obama administration had numerous opportunities to arrest Mexican drug and weapons traffickers before murdering a federal U.S. agent and seriously wounding his partner but opted for the hands-off approach, a new federal audit reveals. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which operates under the Department of Justice (DOJ), should have stopped the traffickers—members of the Los Zetas organization—long before the Immigration and Customs (ICE) agents were ambushed in Mexico with firearms smuggled south of the border thanks to a once-secret Obama administration gun-running operation.

Instead, on February 15, 2011, ICE agents Victor Avila and Jaime Zapata were assaulted while returning to Mexico City from Matehuala, Mexico in their government-issued armored sports utility vehicle. Both agents were on assignment in Mexico and their SUV displayed diplomatic license plates. After passing through a toll booth on Mexican Route 57 in the early afternoon the agents noticed that two vehicles were following them, one of which passed and blocked the agents’ SUV from the front, forcing it to stop. Approximately eight assailants approached the SUV armed with various firearms, including assault weapons (AK-47s and AR-1Ss) and handguns. Two of the assailants gained access to the interior of the SUV through a partially open window and shot Zapata and Avila. Zapata died and Avila was seriously wounded.

Authorities determined that members of the renowned drug trafficking organization Los Zetas carried out the attack with weapons that had been purchased in Texas as part of a scandalous Obama administration operation that that allowed guns from the U.S. to be smuggled into Mexico so they could eventually be traced to drug cartels.

Judicial Watch was a leader in investigating the Obama administration’s illegal Mexican gun-running operation and filed several lawsuits in federal court to uncover details. Known as Fast and Furious, the scandalous secret program was masterminded by the DOJ and implemented by the ATF under the leadership of Obama Attorney General Eric Holder. The weapons have been implicated in hundreds of crimes in both Mexico and the U.S., the records show. They also document how high-level officials of the Obama administration covered up the scandal and that the former president abused his office by asserting executive privilege to keep Fast and Furious records from going public. Obama even exerted executive privilege for Holder’s wife and mother to conceal emails with the then Attorney General involving the operation. Read the full story here.

Flashback 2013: Dem Maxine Waters: Obama Campaign Database Has 'Information About Everything on Every Individual’.

Flashback 2013: Dem Maxine Waters: Obama Campaign Database Has 'Information About Everything on Every Individual’. (CNSNews)

Earlier this year, in an interview with TV One, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) praised President Barack Obama for putting together a campaign database that "will have information about everything on every individual."
“And that database will have information about everything on every individual in ways that it’s never been done before,” Waters told “Washington Watch” host Roland, referring to Obama’s “Organizing for America,” which was changed from a campaign organization to a 501(c)(4) called Organizing for Action.
Martin had asked her about Obama’s agenda in his last term.
“The inauguration represented the beginning of his second term, but it also represented the countdown to the end of his presidency. And the reality is, like anything else, you better get what you can while he’s there because, look, come 2016, that’s it,” Martin said.
“I don’t know, and I think some people are missing something here,” Waters said.
The president has put in place an organization that contains a kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life,” she added. “That’s going to be very, very powerful.
Martin asked if Waters if she was referring to “Organizing for America.”
“That’s right, that’s right,” Waters said. “And that database will have information about everything on every individual in ways that it’s never been done before.”
Waters said the database would also serve future Democratic candidates seeking the presidency.
“He’s been very smart,” Waters said of Obama. “I mean it’s very powerful what he’s leaving in place.”

FlashBack 2009 - Obama 'Admin' Embraces Bush Position on Warrant less Wiretapping and Secrecy

FlashBack 2009 - Obama 'Admin' Embraces Bush Position on Warrant less Wiretapping and Secrecy. (EEF).
San Francisco - The Obama administration formally adopted the Bush administration's position that the courts cannot judge the legality of the National Security Agency's (NSA's) warrantless wiretapping program, filing a motion to dismiss Jewel v. NSA late Friday.
In Jewel v. NSA, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is challenging the agency's dragnet surveillance of millions of ordinary Americans. The Obama Justice Department claims in its motion that litigation over the wiretapping program would require the government to disclose privileged "state secrets." These are essentially the same arguments made by the Bush administration three years ago in Hepting v. AT&T, EFF's lawsuit against one of the telecom giants complicit in the NSA spying.
"President Obama promised the American people a new era of transparency, accountability, and respect for civil liberties," said EFF Senior Staff Attorney Kevin Bankston. "But with the Obama Justice Department continuing the Bush administration's cover-up of the National Security Agency's dragnet surveillance of millions of Americans, and insisting that the much-publicized warrantless wiretapping program is still a 'secret' that cannot be reviewed by the courts, it feels like deja vu all over again."

CHARLIE SAVAGE: So, in this book, I have two chapters about surveillance. And one of them is only about what happened under Obama, both before and after Ed Snowden. And the other one tries to take everything that we now know, because of the Snowden leaks and then the government’s declassifications as a result of the Snowden leaks, of how surveillance developed from the '70s up until 2009, and put it together into a coherent story, because there's like this whole secret history of how technology and spying powers changed that we didn’t know. Now it’s knowable.
But I open that historical chapter with a briefing that Obama received on February 4, I think it was, 2009—right at that moment where I was thinking there was nothing left for me to do, but was also starting to realize, "Wait, what about these things they say they’re going to keep?" But we didn’t know about this at the time. So Obama comes into the Situation Room to receive a briefing on all these surveillance programs and, you know, the program that’s keeping records of all Americans’ domestic phone calls and emails, that we don’t know about until after the Snowden leaks. But he finds out about it at this briefing. And the sort of permanent security state—the FBI and the NSA and the CIA and the intelligence community—want to tell the new president, "Here’s what you’ve inherited."
And they brief him on all this stuff, and they also explain how George W. Bush had sort of put it in unilaterally, by fiat—"I’m the commander-in-chief. The law doesn’t matter. We’re going to do this"—after 9/11. But also, over time, it had become—it had been secretly put on a stronger legal basis. The intelligence court had begun issuing orders for it. They come up with this PATRIOT Act theory about why maybe it was authorized, counterintuitively, by statute. And so, their argument was: It’s OK now, because the legal basis for it is OK. And over and over, we see the pattern in the Obama administration of "What was the problem with Bush? Is it the problem that these programs are inherently bad, or is the problem that Bush was putting them in place in a way that violated statutes?"
And the very lawyerly minded Obama administration—Obama himself being a lawyer, a lot of the policymakers around him being lawyers—were overwhelmingly focused on the problem with Bush, if there was one, being a legal problem. And so, Obama says, "Well, I’m comfortable"—when he learns about these programs—"I’m comfortable with what you’re telling me, but I want my lawyers—Eric Holder, Greg Craig—to take a look. And are they satisfied?" And they were satisfied.

Iran has requested to buy 950 tons of uranium ore from Kazakhstan.

Iran has requested to buy 950 tons of uranium ore from Kazakhstan. (rferl)

Iran says it has requested to buy 950 tons of uranium ore from Kazakhstan over three years to help develop its civil reactor program.

Tehran has asked a body overseeing its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers to approve the purchase and is still awaiting Britain's agreement, the ISNA news agency quoted Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, as saying on February 25.

Salehi also said Iran expects to get Russian help in producing nuclear fuel.

The nuclear agreement between Iran and Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia, and the United States imposed curbs on Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions.

The deal limits the level to which Iran can enrich uranium at 3.67 percent and caps the amount it can stockpile.

Such uranium is often used for peaceful purposes, but can be used for a nuclear weapon if processed to a higher level, experts say. Hmmm......Why do they need so much import if the have huge deposits of Uranium?

Related - Flashback 2015: Iran 'rediscovers' unexpectedly high uranium reserve deposits.
Iran has discovered an unexpectedly high reserve of uranium and will soon begin extracting the radioactive element at a new mine, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said.
Under permission from the Supreme Leader, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has been conducting airborne surveys for discovering uranium deposits, he said, adding that good news in this regard will be announced in the future. “In the next 10 years, we will reach a level which will acquire raw materials for 190,000 SWU enrichment capacity,” he noted.

Obama's Dept. of Interior created Rule that Tries to Create Unconstitutional “Native Hawaiian Government”

Use the CRA to Repeal Obama's Dept. of Interior Rule that Tries to Create Unconstitutional “Native Hawaiian Government” HT: JudicialWatch.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) last year promulgated a rule intended to provide a way to organize “a Native Hawaiian government” that could “seek a government-to-government relationship with the United States.” In plain English, this is an attempt to grant tribal status to Native Hawaiians by executive decree. The means for accomplishing this would be a vote, restricted by the regulation to those who had at least one drop of Native Hawaiian blood.

This atrocious rule, which is almost certainly unconstitutional, should immediately be repealed. Congress has the power to do so now under the Congressional Review Act (CRA). This law allows Congress a certain time to object to any new rule if it believes, for example, that an agency has overstepped its legal authority. If the President agrees, the rule is repealed.
The DOI’s regulation amounts to (another) attempt by the now-departed Obama Administration to use an executive order to circumvent Congress – and the Constitution
Starting in 2000 and for more than a decade, Hawaii’s Senator Akaka tried to convince Congress to pass the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act, popularly known as the “Akaka Bill.” The Akaka Bill would have granted Native Hawaiians a pathway to federal tribal status. But Congress never passed the bill.

Switching tactics, the Obama Administration decided to try to accomplish the same thing by executive action.

Even worse is what the DOI’s regulation does. It requires members of the Native Hawaiian community to adopt a “governing document” – meaning a constitution – and then to submit that document to a “ratification vote.” Under the DOI’s regulation, that ratification vote would be restricted to voters who can prove that they were descendants “of the aboriginal people who, prior to 1778, occupied and exercised sovereignty in the area that now constitutes the State of Hawaii.” A single drop of blood is enough to be allowed to vote. This is the same ugly standard applied during the Jim Crow era to define a person as black for the purposes of the segregation statutes. Read the full story here.

Iran May Stop Cooperation with IAEA If US Leaks Secret 'Obama & Iran' Nuclear Documents.

Iran May Stop Cooperation with IAEA If US Leaks Secret 'Obama & Iran' Nuclear Documents. (IFP).

During the US election campaign, reports circulated indicating that Trump would reveal certain documents on Iran’s nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), allegedly kept hidden by Obama administration.

An article carried by the Daily Beast website late last December quoted an “individual who has participated in those conversations” as saying that “senior officials who will be part of the Trump administration are already discussing what so-far-unseen information about the Iran agreement they will be able to make public after January.”

A number of Iranian parliamentarians have commented on the US President Donald Trump’s threat of publicizing the secret nuclear documents between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), saying such threats may lead to Iran’s decision to stop cooperation with the Agency.

Referring to Trump’s threat to disclose Iran’s secret documents pertaining to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Jamali Nobandegani, who is also a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said threatening Tehran with claims about publicizing such [secret nuclear] documents is an old trick.

“Most of the so-called IAEA agents who are dispatched to other countries [for inspecting nuclear facilities and activities] are, in fact, undercover agents of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad — Israel’s intelligence agency. In the past, prior to the raising of the nuclear issue by the IAEA, American and European media published Iran’s documents.”

“Since the IAEA’s director general is appointed by the direct vote of the US and other Western countries, he does not have the freedom and authority to make independent decisions and, thus, fails to guarantee the fulfilment of the Agency’s commitments,” he went on to say.

Referring to the leak of the secret documents between Iran and IAEA in the past, Jamali Nobandegani stressed that in case of another disclosure [of such documents], the international community will eventually notice the IAEA’s lack of commitment, understand the reason behind Iran’s reluctance to cooperate with the agency and respect the country’s decision.

Therefore, in case Trump carries out its threat of publishing the documents, the Iranian government will definitely take necessary measures to reciprocate.

Among Iran’s measure may be suspending cooperation with the IAEA, as these documents are directly related to the country’s national security and a nation’s security is not negotiable and tradable. Hmmm....Why shouldn't the America public be informed of the 'backroom' deals the Obama 'admin' made with Iran? Read the full story here.

'Yes We Scan' - pres. Obama Expands Surveillance Powers on His Way Out.

'Yes We Scan' - pres. Obama Expands Surveillance Powers on His Way Out. (EEF).

With mere days left before President-elect Donald Trump takes the White House, President Barack Obama’s administration just finalized rules to make it easier for the nation’s intelligence agencies to share unfiltered information about innocent people.

New rules issued by the Obama administration under Executive Order 12333 will let the NSA—which collects information under that authority with little oversight, transparency, or concern for privacy—share the raw streams of communications it intercepts directly with agencies including the FBI, the DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security, according to a report today by the New York Times.

That’s a huge and troubling shift in the way those intelligence agencies receive information collected by the NSA. Domestic agencies like the FBI are subject to more privacy protections, including warrant requirements.

Previously, the NSA shared data with these agencies only after it had screened the data, filtering out unnecessary personal information, including about innocent people whose communications were swept up the NSA’s massive surveillance operations.

As the New York Times put it, with the new rules, the government claims to be “reducing the risk that the N.S.A. will fail to recognize that a piece of information would be valuable to another agency, but increasing the risk that officials will see private information about innocent people.”
However—and this is especially troubling—“if analysts stumble across evidence that an American has committed any crime, they will send it to the Justice Department,” the Times wrote.
So information that was collected without a warrant—or indeed any involvement by a court at all—for foreign intelligence purposes with little to no privacy protections, can be accessed raw and unfiltered by domestic law enforcement agencies to prosecute Americans with no involvement in threats to national security. Obama 'Admin': 'Iranian President’s Order on N. Propulsion Devices No Breach of JCPOA'

Obama 'Admin': 'Iranian President’s Order on N. Propulsion Devices No Breach of JCPOA'. (IFP).

Such an announcement does not run counter to the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action),” a senior Obama administration official said on condition of anonymity, in reference to the nuclear deal, Reuters reported.

In separate directives issued to the Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) on Tuesday, President Rouhani demanded that they draw appropriate plans to design and manufacture nuclear propulsion devices as well as the fuel required for them.

He instructed Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the AEOI, to report back to him on the issue within a maximum period of three months.

The president said the measures were warranted in light of the United States’ foot-dragging in fulfilling its commitments under the multilateral nuclear deal and the recent ratification of an anti-Iran legislation in the US Congress known as the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA).

North Korea has effective means of delivering nuclear weapons, their missile program is "close to the one developed in Iran" Russian expert. (Tass).

Pyongyang has rather effective means of delivering nuclear weapons including tactical missiles, Chief Scientist of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of Russia’s Academy of Sciences, retired Major General Vladimir Dvorkin said at a meeting of the supervisory board of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe.

According to Dvorkin, North Korea’s missile program is "close to the one developed in Iran" since the two countries had been sharing experience in the nuclear sphere. "They are already capable of fitting nuclear warheads onto tactical missiles," the Russian member of the Luxembourg Forum noted.

Former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans, a member of the Luxembourg Forum supervisory board, said in turn that it was necessary to continue dialogue with Pyongyang. He believes that the North Korean leadership understands very well that using nuclear weapons would mean suicide.
Evans said that it was also necessary to keep up the sanctions pressure while remaining calm and searching for opportunities for a meaningful dialogue.

The International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe was established in 2007 based on a decision made at the International Conference on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe. The forum comprises 49 credible and globally renowned experts from 14 countries.

The Youth Rehabilitation Act, Led to “Pattern of Violent Offenders Returning Rapidly to the Streets and Committing More Crimes”.

The Youth Rehabilitation Act, Led to “Pattern of Violent Offenders Returning Rapidly to the Streets and Committing More Crimes”. HT: JudicialWatch.

A law enacted in the nation’s capital by a crackhead mayor to “protect African American youths from the stigma of lengthy prison sentences” has resulted in a pattern of violent offenders returning rapidly to the streets and committing more crimes. A disturbing series published by Washington D.C.’s mainstream newspaper reveals that hundreds of criminals who received lenient sentences under the measure have gone on to rob, rape or kill.

The law, Youth Rehabilitation Act, was passed in 1985 under Mayor Marion Barry, who resumed his political career after serving time in prison.

Much like Barry’s political career survived a multitude of scandals and illegal behavior, his effort to protect fellow criminals has endured. The measure was intended to give minority offenders a second chance by letting judges issue shorter sentences for violent crimes and allowing the convicts to erase their criminal record. “The original intent of the law was to rehabilitate inexperienced criminals under the age of 22,” the news story states. Instead, it has enabled many to embark on crime sprees with little consequences. Read the full story here.
