Murky details emerge of the 'deal' that Hussein Obama struck with Iran.

Murky details emerge of the 'deal' that Hussein Obama struck with Iran. (AlArabia).

More than a year ago on January 17, 2016, then President Barack Obama announced on TV the nuclear deal with Iran and also another secretly concluded deal securing freedom for four Iranian-Americans incarcerated by Tehran.

In exchange, Obama said he had granted clemency to six Iranian-Americans and one Iranian man convicted or awaiting trial or appeal in the US for violations of US sanctions laws. He made clear that they were not charged with “terrorism or any violent offenses.”

Politico has published the list and details of those individuals involved in the deal – the four Iranian-Americans freed by Tehran, the seven who were granted clemency in the US, and also the 14 that Obama did not mention at all – Iranian fugitives wanted by the US that the administration dropped charges and international arrest warrants against, citing foreign policy interests and the low likelihood of capturing them.

Those who were awaiting trial or appeal in the US and the Iranian-Americans held by Iran, have all asserted their innocence and portrayed themselves as political pawns in the often-contentious relationship between the US and Iran.

The 14 fugitives whose cases and international arrest warrants were dropped: These case histories have been compiled from federal court documents and other records, based on identities of the men initially disclosed by Iran’s FARS news service.

  1. Seyed Abolfazl Shahab Jamili, an Iranian import-export businessman charged with procuring nuclear-related equipment for Iran from 2005 through 2012, including conspiring with Chinese associate Sihai Cheng to obtain hundreds of US-made pressure transducers for the gas centrifuges Iran used to secretly enrich uranium.

  2. Amin Ravan, an Iranian citizen known to be a long-time procurement agent for Iran, Ravan and his Iran-based company IC Market Iran were charged with smuggling US-made military antennas to Hong Kong and Singapore to acquire the antennas and a wide array of other components for users in Iran. He was also charged with helping Iran acquire US radio frequency modules and other components that were used in IEDs that was responsible for killing many American troops in Iraq.

  3. Behrouz Dolatzadeh, an Iranian citizen and longtime weapons smuggler for Iran. He was indicted and charged in connection with an alleged scheme to buy thousands of US-made assault rifles for ultimate use in Iran.

  4. Hamid Arabnejad, Gholamreza Mahmoudi and Ali Moattar were Iranian citizens and executives at Mahan Air, and were indicted in connection with a conspiracy to illegally obtain by lease agreement for as many as six Boeing airplanes on behalf of the private Iranian airline.

  5. Matin Sadeghi, a Turkish national indicted as part of Bahram Mechanic’s Houston-based procurement network, Sadeghi allegedly used his Istanbul trading company as an intermediary shipping point for dual-use US-origin electronics exported illegally to Iran, including commodities “frequently used in a wide range of military systems, including surface-air and cruise missiles.”

  6. Koorush Taherkhani, an Iranian national and alleged co-conspirator in Ghahreman’s procurement network, Taherkhani used hise firm as a front company to acquire US-made navigation equipment for use in Iran.

  7. Alireza Moazami Goudarzi, an Iranian citizen, Goudarzi was charged in connection with an international conspiracy to illegally procure US aircraft parts to Iran, including rotor blades for attack helicopters and other military and restricted aviation components.

  8. Jalal Salami, a dual US and Iranian citizen who conspired to procure US electronic components use in Iran through Malaysia. Two others, Iranian citizens Sajad Farhadi and Seyed Ahmad Abtahi, were also part of the procurement network, prosecutors said.

  9. Mohammed A. Sharbaf, an Iranian citizen indicted for allegedly being part of a conspiracy to procure US-origin forklift parts in violation of American sanctions.

  10. Mohammad Abbas Mohammadi, an Iranian citizen charged with conspiring to illegally procure US-origin aircraft parts – including engines – for use in civilian and military aircraft in Iran.

Video - Iran Unveils New Combat Drone, reverse engineered from 'Donated' RQ 170 Class.

Video - Iran Unveils New Combat Drone, reverse engineered from 'Donated' RQ 170 Class. HT: Avionist.

On Oct. 1, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) unveiled a new combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) during an expo showcasing the latest UAV projects of IRGC’s Aerospace Division.

Belonging to the Simorgh class, the new drone is a long-range unmanned aerial vehicle capable of carrying four precision-guided bombs, modeled on the American RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone captured in 2011.

Commenting on the latest achievements by the IRGC forces, Commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Division Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh said that “today Iran has better aviation systems and equipment than the US and expressed hope that one day Iran will have the same might in the UAV industry as in the missile sector.”

So, it looks like the Iranians have not only copied the RQ-170, but they have also developed something new based on the captured “Beast of Kandahar” whose crash landing in Iran remains a mystery. A sensibly smaller drone that retains the same wing shape as the Sentinel but lacks the frontal air intake of the Lockheed Martin’s stealth drone.

Moreover it’s not clear where does the landing gear (if any) comes out from. Hmmm.........Thanks Hussein for the 'Kamikaze drones'.Read the full story here.

Obama 'Admin' signed secret document lifting UN sanctions on Iran banks on day Iran released Americans.

Obama 'Admin' signed secret document lifting UN sanctions on Iran banks on day Iran released Americans. (WSJ).

The Obama administration agreed to back the lifting of United Nations sanctions on two Iranian state banks blacklisted for financing Iran’s ballistic-missile program on the same day in January that Tehran released four American citizens from prison, according to U.S. officials and congressional staff briefed on the deliberations.

The U.N. sanctions on the two banks weren’t initially to be lifted until 2023, under a landmark nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers that went into effect on Jan. 16.

The U.N. Security Council’s delisting of the two banks, Bank Sepah and Bank Sepah International, was part of a package of tightly scripted agreements—the others were a controversial prisoner swap and transfer of $1.7 billion in cash to Iran—that were finalized between the U.S. and Iran on Jan. 17, the day the Americans were freed.

The new details of the delisting have emerged after administration officials briefed lawmakers earlier this month on the U.S. decision.

According to senior U.S. officials, a senior State Department official, Brett McGurk, and a representative of the Iranian government signed three documents in Geneva on the morning of Jan. 17.

“By agreeing to remove U.N. and EU sanctions eight years early on Iran’s main missile financing bank, the administration effectively greenlighted their nuclear warhead-capable ballistic missile program,” said Mark Dubowitz, a top critic of the Iran nuclear deal at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington think tank. US military ship changes course after Iranian vessels harasment.

US military ship changes course after Iran vessel confrontation. (JPost).

A US Navy coastal patrol ship changed course after a fast-attack craft from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps came within 100 yards of it in the central Gulf on Sunday, two US Defense Department officials told Reuters on Tuesday.

It was at least the fourth such incident in less than a month. US officials are concerned that these actions by Iran could lead to mistakes.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Iranian vessel sailed directly in front of the USS Firebolt, forcing the 174-foot US ship to change course.

The interaction was "unsafe and unprofessional due to lack of communications and the close-range harassing maneuvering," one of the officials said, adding that uncovered and manned weapons were seen on the Iranian vessel.

The US ship tried to communicate with the Iranian ship by radio three times but received no response.

The incident began when seven Iranian ships "harassed" the Firebolt, US officials said.Hmmmm......Obama's BFF Iran. Read the full story here.

New evidence Obama's BFF Iran evaded sanctions, continued nuclear weapons development with Venezuela.

New evidence Obama's BFF Iran evaded sanctions, continued nuclear weapons development with Venezuela.(FPD).

New evidence suggests Iran received help from Venezuela with its nuclear program despite a decade of U.N.-mandated sanctions aimed at curbing the rouge regime’s controversial nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

A 2009 document obtained by Brazil’s leading weekly, Veja magazine, shows late dictator President Hugo Chavez signing off on the release of funds to help Iran with its nuclear ambitions.

Specifically, the document states the funds were to be designated for the import of equipment for a gunpowder factory and the development of production plants for nitroglycerin and nitrocellulose, elements used in rocket propulsion for Iran’s government. There is also the suggestion that Chavez may have helped Iran produce rocket motors.

The document provides written proof that Iran successfully continued with its weapons-building program, circumventing what were perceived as ‘watertight’ sanctions.

In a 2011 hearing at the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, then head of U.S. Southern command General Douglas Fraser told the committee that the U.S. was concerned about weekly flights between Venezuela and Iran dubbed the “Axis of Evil Express,” that could potentially be used to transport terrorists and weapons. Hmmm........So Why the CIA (Obama Admin) didn't want the EU And IAEA push for clarity on the Iranians their Military research on Nuclear weapons? Read the full story here.

Iran’s Air Defense Forces Equipped with S-300 System: Iran's Def Min. (IranFrontPage).

The Iranian Defence Minister announced on Tuesday that the country’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defence Base has been equipped with the S-300 missile system, but at the same time added that the Islamic Republic’s indigenously designed air defence system will be mass-produced later this year.

Khatam al-Anbia Air Defence Base has received the strategic S-300 air defence missile system, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said on the sidelines of a visit to an exhibition of the achievements of the Iranian Army’s air defence base.

Highlighting the country’s major strides toward self-sufficiency in the area of aerial defence, he added that Iran has also developed its domestically-built Bavar-373 air defence system, and will launch its mass production this year.

He said the Iranian system enjoys specifications and functions similar to those of S-300, and that it can simultaneously engage multiple aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones.

Back in April, Iran displayed part of the Russian-made S-300 air defence missile system in a military parade in Tehran, held to mark the National Army Day.

The gear unveiled in the ceremony included 2 radar systems of S-300, its carrier and command vehicles as well as the crane for lifting its missiles.

Iran has already made it clear that its military might poses no threat to regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defence doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

Iranian Navy Submarines Equipped with Long-Range Qadir Cruise Missiles

Iranian Army's Naval Force has received homemade anti-ship cruise missile dubbed “Ghadir”. (Fars).

The missiles were handed over to the navy Nov. 29 during a ceremony attended by Iran’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari in Tehran, Iran's State IRINN TV reported.

Dehghan said that quick preparation and launch, flight in low altitude, high navigation accuracy, as well as high damage power and anti-electronic warfare system are among the capabilities of the long-range missile.

The Ghadir missile can precisely hit targets within the 300-kilometer range and is equipped with advanced radars.

It’s the latest version of Iran’s homemade cruise missiles which can be launched from ground, as well as helicopters and warships.

Iran launched production line for the anti-ship cruise missile last March.

The defense ministry has reportedly delivered large quantities of the missile to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) navy during the inauguration ceremony of the production line.

Addressing the ceremony, Dehqan said Qadir missiles can be rapidly deployed to show reaction in a short time, while they enjoy other capabilities such as low flying altitude, high navigation precision, high targeting precision, high destruction power, highly advanced anti-electronic warfare and anti-jamming systems, advanced radar systems and the capability of being fired from different types of vessels and helicopters.

Stressing that the Iranian defense ministry stands atop the region in manufacturing different types of home-made missiles, he said, "The high precision, rapid reaction and high quality of these important products have incredibly increased the Armed Forces' combat power in the sky, sea and ground."

Dehqan appreciated the Iranian scientists and elites for designing, building and mass-producing Qadir missiles which can hit targets 300km in distance, and said, "God willing, the Defense Ministry's new missiles with much more advanced capabilities will be delivered to the Armed Forces next year."

Iranian news says Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian sentenced to jail.

Iranian news says Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian sentenced to jail. (GU).
Rezaian given prison sentence of unspecified length after being convicted of spying at Tehran’s revolutionary court
An Iranian court has sentenced Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian to a prison term, the state news agency said on Nov. 22 quoting the judiciary spokesman, a case that is a sensitive issue in contentious U.S.-Iranian relations.

The length of the prison term was not specified. "Serving a jail term is in Jason Rezaian's sentence but I cannot give details," judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei told a weekly news conference in Tehran, according to IRNA.

In Washington, U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters he was aware of the IRNA report but could not independently confirm it. It was not immediately clear why Iran has not given details of the ruling against the 39-year-old Rezaian, who Iranian prosecutors accused of espionage.

On Oct. 11, Ejei said Rezaian, the paper's Tehran bureau chief who has both U.S. and Iranian citizenship, had been convicted, without elaborating. He said then that Rezaian had 20 days to appeal against the verdict.

Iran’s state media, citing the indictment, have said Rezaian collected information on Iranian and foreign individuals and companies circumventing sanctions and passed them on to the US government. Iranian state TV has repeatedly called Rezaian an American spy”.
