India - Punjab: 12-year-old girl set on fire after week long rape, dies.

India - Punjab: 12-year-old girl set on fire after week long rape, dies. (Indian express).

A 12-year-old girl died on Thursday morning after being allegedly set on fire by a 19-year old man, who is also accused of repeatedly raping her in the last eight days.

Sunil, 19, allegedly poured kerosene on the girl last night at her residence in Balwinder Singh ka vehra (one-room houses) in Sherpur area following which she was rushed to Ludhiana Civil Hospital with more than 95 percent burns.

The girl named Sunil in her statement before a magistrate and said that he threatened to kill her if she revealed anything to her parents.

Speaking to Indian Express, RS Cheema, Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) south, said, “The girl used to stay at home and the accused was teasing her for days. She was being repeatedly raped since 8-10 days and she did not reveal it to her parents. Yesterday, she decided to tell to her parents but before that Sunil poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze.”

The gynecologist, who performed a medical check up before her death, confirmed to the police that the girl was brutally raped.

She was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh after her condition became extremely critical, but succumbed to burn injuries on her way.

Tension gripped Sherpur area after her family blocked traffic and staged protest with the dead body demanding Sunil’s arrest.

An FIR has been registered at Focal Point police station in which police has booked the father and two brothers of the accused under section 120-B (conspiracy) of IPC. His father Harish and two brothers, Anil and Laxman (aged 19 and 22), have now been arrested. The main accused, Sunil, is still absconding.

India - Rape[Istan] - Women were pulled out of cars and gang-raped. (NDtv)
A popular pit-stop for travelers just 50 km from Delhi, gave a chilling face to allegations that women were pulled out of cars and gang-raped here a week ago, at the height of violence during Jat quota protests.

The police say no one has been able to confirm the mass rapes that allegedly took place late on Sunday night; no witnesses have come forward, no complaints have been made and villagers have said nothing.

"We appeal to people to provide any information. We are very serious about the case...we will investigate and make sure that the guilty are punished," said Haryana police chief Yash Pal Singal.

"The clothes that have been found have been collected. We are trying to ascertain if a crime was committed," he added,

Three women officers have been tasked with receiving any rape complaint during the Jat protests.

A newspaper report had said that cars were stopped by a mob of 30 and at least 10 women were dragged out and raped in the fields. The cars were allegedly set on fire.

The report quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the women lay in the fields almost till dawn until their families came looking for them. Witnesses are quoted as saying the women were persuaded by the police not to press charges.

An NGO has said that its members spoke to witnesses who confirmed the rapes.

Taking note of the allegations, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday asked Haryana's Chief Secretary and the police chief to submit a report on the alleged rapes in Murthal.

Delhi India's rape capital - Two Minors a 2.5 year old n 5 year old Gang-Raped In One Day.

Delhi India's rape capital - Two Minors a 2.5 year old n 5 year old Gang-Raped In One Day. (NDtv).

New Delhi: A week after the horrific rape and torture of a four-year-old girl in Delhi, two more cases of minor girls being gang-raped have been reported from the capital. Both the girls have suffered severe injuries and are recovering in hospital.

In the first case, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped allegedly by two men who abducted her on a motorbike from outside her house in west Delhi's Nangloi area on Friday. Neighbours later found her lying unconscious at a nearby park. She was profusely bleeding.

The girl's mother has claimed that her daughter was abducted while she was watching a ramleela performance near her house. "My girl was watching ramleela when there was a power cut. That is when they kidnapped her," she said.

The girl has suffered severe damage to her private parts and has bites marks on her body, said Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women who visited her today. "Woke up to 2 incidents of gangrape of a 2.5 year old n 5 year old. Bleeding not stopping for 2.5 year old. On way to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital (sic)," she had posted on Twitter this morning.

No arrests have been made in the case so far.

The same day, a five-year-old was raped allegedly by three men in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The girl was reportedly alone at home when one of the accused, her neighbor, took her to his house and then allegedly raped her along with his friends.

Her neighbours saw her coming out of the accused's house and informed the police. "She was crying and her clothes were soaked with blood," one of them has told police. All three accused have been arrested.

Police had formed 15 teams and questioned more than 250 residents of the western Delhi neighborhood where the 2 ½-year-old girl was raped and left bleeding in a park on Friday night, police said.

The two 17-year-old boys were arrested late Saturday, said Dependra Pathak, a top police officer.

Rape[Istan] India Blocks 857 Websites for 'Porn'.

Rape[Istan] India Blocks 857 Websites for 'Porn'. (NDTV).

Since Saturday, Indians have been unable to access more than 800 websites, blocked by a government order on the grounds that they host porn, though that is not against the law in India. Here is your 10-point cheat-sheet to this story:

1) The ban has provoked a furious debate online about extreme and unwarranted moral policing by the government.

2) The sites that are banned include some of the world's biggest porn sites like Pornhub and Xvideos.

3) But also included in the lengthy list are torrent sites, video sharing sites, as well as comedy and dating sites.

4) A copy of the government's order, which has been marked as 'restricted', has been leaked by the Centre of Internet Studies.

5) Dated Friday, July 31, the order is issued by the Ministry of IT's Department of Telecom (DoT), and is addressed to all Internet service providers (ISP) like Airtel and BSNL.

6) The order calls for "disablement of the following URLs under the provision of section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 as the content hosted on these websites relate to morality, decency as given in the Article 19(2) of the Constitution of India."

7) The order is a result of PIL pending before the Supreme Court, which seeks ban of child porn and other such sites. During the previous hearing of the case, the Court had asked government what action had been taken.

8) "We had given names of 800 websites," said Vijay Panjawani, lawyer of the PIL petitioner. As a counter to those who said the government has no business deciding what an adult does in the privacy of his home, the lawyer said, "How can one say fundamental rights are violated? If I sleep with a prostitute or a boy within the four corners of my room, it is an offense."

9) The Supreme Court recently refused an interim order to block porn websites in India. "Somebody may come to the court and say look, I am above 18, and how can you stop me from watching it within the four walls of my room. It is a violation of Article 21 [right to personal liberty]," Chief Justice HL Dattu reportedly said last month.

10) On Twitter, author Chetan Bhagat and film-maker Ram Gopal Verma are among those campaigning against the ban."Don't ban porn. Ban men ogling, leering, brushing past, groping, molesting, abusing, humiliating and raping women," Bhagat.

Hmmm.....I don't know if the ban was imposed for 'religious' (Islam) reasons, but banning porn won't stop the rape epidemic in India, there is a rape 'culture' present and it needs re education.

India - Delhi Government Clarifies Order on Controversial Two-Finger Test in Rape Cases.

India - Delhi Government Clarifies Order on Controversial Two-Finger Test in Rape Cases. (NDtv).

The Delhi Government today said that its circular on the two-finger test - a vaginal test for rape survivors -- that generated much controversy, had been "misinterpreted".

Health Minister Saytendra Jain said the government would prefer to clarify that the test was "banned for sexual assault victims".

"It is advised that medical professionals should nor perform the finger test unless it is medically indicated for only treatment purpose," Mr Jain told reporters.

The circular was sent out on May 31 by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

The Union government had banned the test last year, after the Supreme Court held in 2013 that it violates a woman's right to privacy, and asked the government to provide better medical procedures to confirm sexual assault.

In the so-called "two-finger test", doctors probe the vagina to determine if a hymen is present and to try to determine if the vagina is lax, which is taken as evidence that the woman routinely has sex and thus consented to intercourse. Often, the doctor is male.

Activists and lawyers have for long criticised the test as unscientific and unnecessary and one that subjects the complainant to further trauma and humiliation and often allows a rapist to get away.

The test was banned by the Department of Health Research and the Indian Council of Medical Research in a new set of guidelines issued in 2014.

In January 2013, the Justice Verma committee - set up to frame stricter anti-rape laws after the brutal gang-rape and murder of a medical student on a moving bus in Delhi - had criticised the two-finger vaginal examination.

India: Mob storms prison kill alleged rapist

India: Mob storms prison kill alleged rapist. (NDTV).

An alleged rapist, suspected to be an illegal migrant, was thrashed and killed by a mob which stormed the high-security central jail in Nagaland's commercial town of Dimapur, officials said.

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang told NDTV in the morning that the government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. The Centre has also sought a report from the Nagaland government on the incident.

"No, this is a very unfortunate incident that took place yesterday... Actually the culprit was booked, and forwarded to judicial custody and he was in Central Jail. But despite public asking to extend the interrogation and take action on the culprit. They forcibly they have taken out. So, the security people were overpowered and they could not contain the situation," Mr Zeliang told NDTV on Friday morning.

At least 10 vehicles were also set ablaze by the unruly mob forcing the authorities to clamp curfew in Dimapur district.

Syed Farid Khan, a 35-year-old second hand car dealer, had allegedly raped a 20-year-old Naga woman on February 23 and 24 at different locations. Police arrested Khan on February 25 and later a lower court sent him to judicial custody.

"A mob of around 4,000 people stormed the central jail after breaking the two gates and took the accused out of jail and paraded him naked to the city tower in the heart of Dimapur town, before we could rescue him from the mob," district police chief Meren Jamir told IANS.

He said Khan died after he was badly thrashed by the mob.

"The body was retrieved from the mob after police fired in the air to disperse them," Jamir said. Read the full story here.More here.

Rape[istan] India - Japanese student gang-raped at gunpoint for 12 days in Gaya

Rape[istan] India - Japanese student gang-raped at gunpoint for 12 days in Gaya. (HindustanTimes).

While the rape is alleged to have occurred in December, a team of Kolkata Police, assisted by their Gaya counterparts, arrested the two accused Friday. Three others accused of molesting her were arrested on December 31.

According to joint commissioner of police (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh, the woman came to Kolkata on November 20. She was staying at a hotel in Sudder Street. Ghosh said Sahid, alias Japani Sahid, Sabir and Wasim Khan, posing as tour guides, took the woman to Digha, a beach town in Bengal, on November 22.

According to a complaint filed with the Kolkata Police, she was molested by the trio in Digha where they also forced her to withdraw Rs. 75,000 from an ATM.

She then returned to Kolkata on November 26 when Sabir reportedly told her to visit Gaya as she is a Buddhist. He then gave her references of Sahid Khan and Javed Khan, two guides in Gaya. She reportedly reached Gaya on the same day.

According to the woman’s statement before a magistrate, Sahid and Javed took her to Paro where they allegedly confined her in a room and raped her at gunpoint for 12 days. The woman said she managed to escape to Varanasi where she met a group of Japanese tourists.

When she narrated her ordeal to them, some women in the group reportedly told her that they knew Japani Sahid, Sabir and Wasim Khan and had suffered similar experiences.

She later reached Kolkata and with help from the Japanese consulate, met commissioner of police Surajit Kar Purakayastha on December 26.

She lodged a complaint of molestation and fraudulent withdrawal of money. But on December 29, when she was produced before the magistrate to give a statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, she alleged rape by Sahid and Javed.

Japani Sahid, Sabir and Wasim Khan were arrested from Sudder Street on the night of December 31. Their interrogation led the police on the trail of brothers Sahid and Javed, sons of Rashid Khan.

The two had gone into hiding but were arrested from Paro village Friday morning after police intercepted their mobile phone usage, Gaya city DSP Alok Kumar Singh said.

Kolkata Police inspector Anay Bhaumik said Sahid and Javed were part of a crime syndicate that had been targeting foreign tourists in Digha beach of Bengal for a long time.

Welcome to Rape[Istan] - Two Sisters Allegedly Gang-Raped, Hanged From Tree in UP Village.(NDTV).

Badaun, UP:  Two teen girls were allegedly gang-raped and later hanged from a tree in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district on Wednesday.
The two girls, who were cousins aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on Tuesday night. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in Katra village in Ushait area on Wednesday morning.

The incident triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy following which an FIR was registered against seven persons including constables Sarvesh Yadav and Rakshapal Yadav, who were suspended.

One of the accused Pappu Yadav has been arrested while others are still absconding, Superintendent of Police, City, Man Singh Chauhan said.

As soon as the news spread, villagers gathered at the site and claimed that police had refused to register an FIR on Tuesday night. They alleged that the girls were gang-raped before they were hanged by the attackers.

Villagers blocked the Ushait-Lilawan road, where they kept the bodies, and demanded suspension of all the policemen posted in Ushait police station.

Later, police controlled the situation and convinced the villagers to lift the blockade.

Two other accused are Brijesh and Awadhesh while two others are unidentified, SP Chauhan said.

Police are awaiting the postmortem report of the two girls.

Three men found guilty of gang-raping two women in Mumbai last year have been sentenced to death.

Three men found guilty of gang-raping two women in Mumbai last year have been sentenced to death. (NDtv).

Three men found guilty of gang-raping two women in the abandoned Shakti Mills in Mumbai last year have been sentenced to death by a court.

Yesterday, the men were convicted under a new legal provision that punishes repeat offenders in rape cases with a life term or death sentence.

Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali and Salim Ansari are the first to be sentenced to death for rape not involving the death of the victim, as part of stronger laws enacted after the fatal gang-rape of a young student in Delhi in December, 2012. A fourth convict, Siraj, has been sentenced to life in jail and a minor accused is being tried separately.

"Any leniency in this case would be a travesty of justice. Life term would be inadequate sentence. We have to do justice to the victim and society," said a Mumbai sessions court.

The three men were the common factor in the gang-rapes of a photojournalist and a telephone operator in the deserted mill in the heart of Mumbai, which dented the city's image as one of India's safest.

They were described as unemployed school dropouts known for petty thefts, who used to drink and spend time at Shakti Mills. The prosecution told the court that when they spotted the photojournalist and her colleague on August 22, they called two of their friends saying, "Come. The shikar (prey) has arrived."

The 23-year-old photographer was on assignment at the mill when five men tied up her colleague and took turns to assault her, holding a broken bottle to her head. The attackers were found guilty of offences that included showing pornography to her and forcing her to perform similar acts, stripping her, and destroying evidence.

The phone operator came forward after learning of the photographer's ordeal. She revealed that the same men had raped her nearly a month before, on July 31.

Prosecution lawyer Ujjwal Nikam told the court that after repeatedly raping the photojournalist, they laughed at her and boasted, "We are evil. We have raped many girls but no one has ever caught us."

Mr Nikam said, "This shows that they were not afraid of the law."

"Rape[Istan] - 51-year-old Danish woman allegedly gang raped at knife-point in Delhi

"Rape[Istan] - 51-year-old Danish woman allegedly gang raped at knife-point in Delhi.(Ndtv).

A Danish woman was allegedly gang-raped in Delhi late last night, the latest high-profile case of sexual assault in the country. The 51-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by a gang of eight men after losing her way to her hotel in Paharganj, a popular backpacker area.

All eight men have been identified but have not been found, said police sources to NDTV.

The woman has told the police she was held by the men between 4 and 7 pm after which they abandoned her. She then took an auto-rickshaw to her hotel where she confided in a fellow tourist, who asked the owner to phone the police. She says she was robbed and beaten too.
"When she came, she was crying and not in good shape," said the hotel owner.

The woman had approached the group for directions near the New Delhi Railway Station after visiting a museum, but they took her to a secluded spot before raping her.

The woman arrived in Delhi on Tuesday after visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra. This morning, she took a flight back to Denmark.

The case comes weeks after a Polish woman was allegedly drugged and raped by a taxi driver while traveling with her two-year-old daughter to New Delhi.

The incident has left Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the backfoot weeks after it won massive popular support in state polls with its promise to make the city safer for women.

"Ask the central home minister. Delhi Police is under the Centre, not the state government, and it is unable to function effectively," said AAP's Kumar Vishwas, falling back on the same argument that the party had attacked Sheila Dikshit's Congress government for last year . More here.

"Rape[Istan]" - Kolkata: Teen who was gang-raped twice, then set on fire, was pregnant.

"Rape[Istan]" - Kolkata: Teen who was gang-raped twice, then set on fire, was pregnant.(NDTv).

She survived two gang-rapes on consecutive days in October. On Tuesday, the 16-year-old died of serious burns in a hospital in Kolkata. She was pregnant, said police.

Today, for the first time, the Kolkata Police revealed that the third-degree burns that killed her were the result not of a suicide attempt but of murder by two men allegedly known to the gang that had raped her.

This was what the school-girl's broken and furious father alleged in a meeting on Wednesday evening with West Bengal's governor, MK Narayanan. "She was burnt so she could not give her statement in court, so the case against her rapists collapses," said her father.

The admission by the police today places Mamata Banerjee's government in a new controversy, not only because of the teen's horrific ordeal, but because of an ugly attempt by the police to force a cremation for her sooner than her family wanted - an attempt, the opposition Left says, to bury the truth that the girl, twice sexually assaulted, was given no security, which led to her murder.

On Tuesday afternoon, the teen died. Her father, a taxi driver originally from Bihar, is a loyalist of the Left's trade union, CITU, which wanted to organise a public funeral procession.

In a grotesque attempt to stymie that, police tried to hijack the body and organize a hasty cremation. The girl's father however avoided that by refusing to hand over her death certificate.

She was finally cremated on Wednesday evening.

In October, she was gang-raped in the town of Madhyamgram, a 90-minute drive from Kolkata. The next day, she was gang-raped again, allegedly by the same group of six men to punish her for filing a police case.

On December 23, the 16-year-old was set on fire in her house. The police today revealed that before she died, in a statement on December 26 given to investigating officers, she said that two men had poured kerosene and set her alight. The men had been arrested on December 24 on the basis of a First Information Report filed by her father.

The police and the government will now have to explain why this information was not disclosed. The case of rape has now been converted into one of murder.

RAPE Video - 'It's Your Fault.'

RAPE Video - 'It's Your Fault.'HT: Dawn.

NEW DELHI: A video by a group of comedians that lampoons controversial comments by public figures after the gang-rape of a student in New Delhi last December has gone viral.
The satirical video features Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin and television host Juhi Pandey explaining why women must take the blame for the rising number of rapes in India.
“Scientific studies suggest that women who wear skirts are the leading cause of rape. Do you know why? Because men have eyes,” Koechlin says at the start of the video, which runs for almost four minutes.
Koechlin goes on to show examples of “provocative” clothing, including a woman covered in a black burqa and a spacesuit complete with a helmet.
The video called “It's your fault” has been viewed more than 800,000 times and received more than 4,000 comments since it was published on YouTube on September 19, and has gone viral on Indian networking sites.
Politicians and one of the country's leading gurus made a series of comments in reaction to the gang-rape last December, in which everything from mobile phones to short skirts and noodles were blamed for violence against women.
The attack on the student triggered angry street protests as well as a national debate over the way India treats its women and who was responsible for the rising levels of violence.

The video was made by four stand-up comedians who wanted to change the “massive misconception” that women invite rapes.
These are deep-rooted patriarchal biases. It happens everywhere in the world and in India especially so,” Tanmay Bhat, one of the comedians, told AFP on Monday.
“We often see families disowning rape victims. We wanted to contribute positively to the conversation about the subject.” The video also takes a swipe at police who are largely seen as insensitive to victims of sexual crimes.
Last month, Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh sparked anger by suggesting that city residents need to choose between a “promiscuous culture” that allows public kissing, or a city made safe by “moral policing”.
He made the comments after a 22-year-old photographer was gang-raped while on assignment for a magazine in central Mumbai with a male colleague.
On the video, a smiling Koechlin says: “If you are tired of being humiliated by rape, you can always go to the cops and be humiliated by them instead.”

The video ends with a series of women of different ages and backgrounds saying “it's my fault” to the camera.

Delhi - Four men convicted in Delhi gang-rape sentenced to hang.

Delhi - Four men convicted in Delhi gang-rape sentenced to hang.(France24).

An Indian court has sentenced to death all four men convicted for the gang rape and murder of a woman in an attack on a Delhi bus last December. The hanging sentence now goes to India's High Court for confirmation and can later be appealed.
A judge sentenced four men to death Friday for the fatal gang rape of an Indian student on a bus last December, triggering applause inside the packed courtroom.
Judge Yogesh Khanna told a court in the Indian capital that the case, which sparked widespread anger against the treatment of women in the country, fell into the "rarest of rare category", which justified capital punishment.
"In these times when crimes against women are on the rise, court cannot turn a blind eye to this gruesome act," he said.
As the courtroom burst into applause, the father of the 23-year-old victim told reporters that he was delighted with the sentence.
"We are very happy," said the father, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his late daughter.
"Justice has been delivered," he told reporters inside the court, flanked by his wife and sons.
His wife said that her daughter's "wish has been fulfilled at last".
One of the men, Vinay Sharma, broke down in tears as the sentence was announced, according to an AFP correspondent.
All four suspects were teary eyed as they entered the cramped room to hear their punishment after they were convicted on Tuesday of a string of charges including murder and gang rape.
There had been a huge clamour for the four -- Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, and Mukesh Singh -- to be executed for their attack on the physiotherapy student and her male companion on December 16.
After prosecution lawyers argued on Wednesday the gang were guilty of a "diabolical" crime, the victim's mother had implored the judge to hand down the death sentence.Read the full story here.

Rape[Istan] - US charity worker allegedly raped in West Bengal, Rape cases went up by 158 per cent this year in Delhi.

Rape[Istan] - US charity worker allegedly raped in West Bengal, Rape cases went up by 158 per cent this year in Delhi.(NDtv).
Delhi has witnessed a surge in crime against women this year with rape cases recording 158 per cent rise while molestation and eve-teasing incidents went up by 600 and over 700 per cent, respectively.
According to statistics released by Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar today, the national capital reported 463 rape cases this year till April 15 as against 179 during the same period last year.

While molestation cases showed 600 per cent rise this year (from 139 to 973 cases), eve teasing cases increased by 783.67 per cent (from 49 to 433 cases). He also said 85 per cent of rape cases this year have been cracked while the figures for molestation and eve teasing are 86 and 95.8 per cent.

"Is it humanely possible for police to prevent a case like this (the rape of five-year-old girl) when somebody lures a girl into a room (and rape her)? Rapes are opportunistic crimes confined to private space. "97 per cent of rapes are committed in houses. Only three per cent of rapes are committed by strangers," he said.

Police in eastern India have arrested a local businessman for allegedly raping a US charity worker, an official said on Friday, as anger grows over the high incidence of sexual crime in the country.

"Dinesh Burman, 40, was arrested on Thursday after an American woman lodged a complaint with police," said Kaliappan Jayaraman, the police commissioner of Siliguri, in West Bengal, where the crime allegedly occurred.

The US national, in her 50s, said Burman, a land broker and businessman, raped her on April 15 and threatened her with violence if she approached the police, Jayaraman told AFP over the telephone.
Siliguri, which lies in the foothills of the Himalayas, is located 460 kilometres (290 miles) north of Kolkata.

A six-year-old girl was found with her throat slit near a public toilet in the Badarpur area of south Delhi on Friday evening, according to reports. The police say they are awaiting a medical report to confirm if the child was raped.

The girl is currently in critical condition and underwent a three-hour long operation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences' (AIIMS).

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by four men at the residence of her friend, also a minor girl, who lives in the same locality in Vakola in western Mumbai.

The girl in her complaint said on Thursday evening one of her girlfriends invited her to her house, where four men, all known to her, were already present. The teen says she was given a drink, spiked with sedatives and as she fell unconscious, the men raped her.

The boys were arrested today, but her friend has not been apprehended as yet. Hmmm.....This town and Country is becoming a hellhole.Read the full story here.

"The child is showing gradual recovery. She slept well during the night. She is responding well to anti-biotics."

He said the girl, raped by her 22-year-old neighbour, had undergone "colostomy" surgery. This is a procedure to create an alternative route for stool to pass. Hmmmm.....Sometimes you just ask "Why Lord?"Read the full story here.

"Rape[Istan] - Man accused of raping five-year-old in Delhi arrested from Bihar, say police.(NDtv).
New Delhi: A 22-year-old man, who is accused of raping and mutilating a five-year-old girl in the national capital, was arrested from Muzaffarpur in Bihar late last night.
The accused, Manoj Kumar, had come to Muzaffarpur by train from Delhi after the incident. He is a native of Bharphua village of the district, according to reports. Kumar was traced after tracking the location of his mobile phone, police sources said. He recently got married and his wife had left for Muzzafarpur a few days before to the crime. He was produced in a local court this morning and will be brought on transit remand to Delhi.

Kumar allegedly raped the five-year-old girl at his rented accommodation in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar. The girl and her family stayed in the same building.

The five-year-old was kidnapped on Monday while she was playing outside her home, and was then kept captive in the basement of the same building where she lived by a man who rented a room there about a week ago. On Wednesday evening, it was not the police but neighbours who found her after they heard her cries.

Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where she is undergoing treatment, said this morning that her condition was stable.

The barbarous attack on the girl - she was violated with pieces of a candle and a bottle - has outraged the city. Through Friday, protestors shouted slogans against politicians and the police at the hospital where she was being treated in East Delhi till she was moved to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Security is very tight at AIIMS after protests erupted this morning demanding justice for the victim and punishment to policemen who allegedly did not help locate the girl who went missing on April 15.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the Delhi Police on the progress in the case.

Since December, when the fatal gang-rape of a student on a Delhi bus stunned and incensed the country, the city's police and government have vowed that no effort will be spared to protect women. But a slew of attacks, many of them against young girls, prove that despite the introduction of tougher anti-rape laws and pledges of better policing, little has changed for a city titled "the rape capital" of India.Hmmm....May God give him swift and eternal punishment.Read the full story here.

"Rape[Istan]" Capital Delhi - five year old Indian girl ‘critical’ after brutal rape.

"Rape[Istan]" Capital Delhi -  five year old Indian girl ‘critical’ after brutal rape.(ET).
NEW DELHI: A five-year-old Indian girl was battling for her life on Friday after being kidnapped and brutally raped in the latest incident of sexual violence which has triggered nationwide protests.
The girl was attacked inside a locked room over a 48-hour period, police said, after being abducted as she played outside on Monday in a lower-middle class area of the capital New Delhi.

We initially registered a case of kidnapping. We have now launched a preliminary inquiry into rape and attempted murder,” Rajan Bhagat told AFP, adding a hunt was on to catch a family neighbour who is the main accused.

The child was admitted to the intensive care unit of a city hospital on Wednesday and doctors said her condition was “critical” as news channels provided wall-to-wall coverage.

The girl was traumatised when she was brought to us. There were injuries to her lips, cheeks and chest wall. There were bruises on her neck,” RN Bansal, medical superintendent of a local government hospital, told NDTV news channel.

Doctors said the girl’s genital area had been mutilated and that objects had been inserted inside her, causing serious internal injuries and infection.
“We are keeping her under constant observation. The next few hours are going to be very critical,” Bansal said.

She was found after a passerby heard her crying and alerted the police.

The incident comes just months after India was shaken by the horrific gang-rape of a student in Delhi on a bus last year that triggered countrywide demonstrations and debate over the status of women and girls and their safety.

The woman succumbed to her injuries 13 days after the assault in which her attackers drove an iron rod inside her, damaging her internal organs.

The parents of the five-year-old girl, who was later moved to a better-equipped government hospital in the city, accused the police of being insensitive in their investigation.

They were reluctant to register our complaint (that she was missing) when we approached them the first time. Then the police asked us to be content with the fact she was at least found alive,” the father of the girl said.

Scores of protesters gathered outside the hospital Friday where the child was admitted and shouted abuse at police for failing to investigate her disappearance properly.

Women’s rights activists condemned the incident, saying the injuries inflicted on the girl were shocking.

This incident shows what kind of brutes do we have in society. Society is also responsible for this. It has become full of perverts,” said Ranjana Kumari of the Delhi-based Centre for Social Research.Hmmmm.....Sometimes you really wish that the Lord would carry out a biblical punishment for such cultures.Time for Governments to issue a severe warning about traveling to "Rape[Istan]".Read the full story here.More here, here and here.

"Rape[Istan]" - Female tourists desert India after sex attacks.

"Rape[Istan]" - Female tourists desert India after sex attacks.(ET).NEW DEHLI: The number of foreign women tourists visiting India has dropped by 35 percent in the past three months following a spate of sex attacks that have made global headlines, a new survey has found.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) says overall tourist arrivals are down 25 percent year-on-year, with holidaymakers opting instead to visit other Asian countries such as Malaysia and Thailand.

The fatal gang-rape of a 23-year-old Indian student by six men on a bus in New Delhi in December sparked outrage over the country’s treatment of women, and since then there have also been other widely reported attacks.

A Swiss cyclist was gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh last month, while a South Korean tourist was allegedly drugged and raped in the same state in January by the son of the owner of a hotel where she was staying.

These incidents have “raised concerns about the safety of female travellers to the country”, said D S Rawat, secretary general at ASSOCHAM, which surveyed 1,200 tour operators from different cities.

Nearly 72 percent of tour operators reported a number of cancellations in the last three months — usually a busy tourist season — especially by female visitors from countries such as Canada, the United States and Australia.

Rawat said deteriorating standards of safety and security were the main reasons for the drop in tourists, although the global economic slowdown was also a factor.

The situation has been further aggravated by the advisory issued by various countries to their citizens visiting India to be cautious and avoid India,” added the release from ASSOCHAM on Sunday.Read the full story here.
