German intelligence agency received over 100 tip-offs about Islamic State fighters among refugees.

German intelligence agency received over 100 tip-offs about ISIS fighters among refugees. (Albawaba).

Germany's domestic intelligence agency, BfV, has received over 100 tip-offs about Islamic State fighters among refugees seeking asylum in Germany, Reuters reported.

The German newspaper Berliner Zeitung cited the BfV chief, Hans-Georg Maassen, as mentioning the number of tips during a discussion with Interior Ministry politicians.

Maassen has also said that some of the tip-offs were dismissed as cases of defamation, Berliner Zeitung said.

Xenophobic attacks on migrants are on the rise, and critics have stepped up pressure on German Chancellor Angela Merkel to do more to curb numbers of migrants seeking asylum in Germany.

The BfV agency has not issued a statement and was not available for comment.

Tip off by alert teacher uncovers video of gang rape by migrants in Belgium.

Radicalization probe uncovers video of gang rape by migrants in Belgium. (RT).

Belgian police investigating a tip-off by an alert teacher of a technical school in Ostend about the possible radicalization of a 14-year-old male student have discovered a video implicating him and six others in the gang rape of an unconscious girl. Five of the suspects are Iraqi immigrants.

The video was shot on a phone camera and reportedly shows the assailants laughing, singing and dancing around their victim, who has passed out after drinking too much alcohol. The men pulled the girl’s pants down then groped and raped her, police told the Belgian media.

Police officials in Ostend, Belgium’s largest coastal city, discovered the evidence of the sex crime as they were investigating a 14-year-old student of the Ostend Technical Institute, who had been seen showing his friends a photo of himself wearing military garb and holding a sub-machine gun. The gang rape video was found on the boy’s phone.

Of the seven people arrested in connection with the gang rape, two are Belgium nationals and five are Iraqi immigrants. The oldest suspect is 25 years old.

The 17-year-old victim was identified and has been found. She said she had attended a party with her boyfriend and became unconscious after drinking too much alcohol. After waking up, she called a taxi and went home. She said she didn’t remember what had happen to her.

Several of the suspects showed little remorse for the incident, which happened in November, and didn’t even believe it was a crime at all, the police said.
She has nothing to complain about. Women must obey men, one of them reportedly told the police.
The attitude sparked outrage among Belgians.
“It is clear that some newcomers have problematic beliefs about relations between men and women,” commented Ostend Mayor Johan Vande Lanotte. “When they have served their sentences, they must leave the country.”

Theo Francken, Belgium's minister for asylum and immigration, made a similar statement: “Rapists won't be given asylum. They will be sent back to Iraq if they are found guilty.”

Delhi Father Tortures and Kills Daughter's Alleged Rapist, Then Turns Himself In.

Delhi Father Tortures and Kills Daughter's Alleged Rapist, Then Turns Himself In. (NDTV).

A man who tortured and killed his daughter's alleged rapist before turning himself in wanted to send a message that those who commit such crimes cannot escape justice, his wife has said.

The 36-year-old father of six turned himself into police last week and confessed to strangling his neighbour after the man allegedly admitted raping the 14-year-old.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the police he acted after discovering that his daughter was pregnant.

Distraught, the teen's mother told news agency AFP her husband was a gentle man.

"I only had the chance to see him briefly and he told me he wanted to warn potential rapists that they can never escape justice," said the 32-year-old as she wiped away tears. Her husband remains in police custody.

According to the police report, the teenager told her father she had been raped by the family's trusted neighbour and tenant, who had threatened to kill her if she told anyone. A doctor's report confirmed the assault, said the police.

"I was shocked because we treated the tenant just like our family member. He breached my trust," police quoted the father as saying.

The father, who made around Rs. 200 a day selling snacks on a hand-cart, told his wife he was influenced by the gang-rape of a college student on a moving bus in Delhi in December 2012.

"He said the convicts in the (December 2012) case were yet to be hanged. He felt our daughter may never get justice, so maybe that's why he decided to take things in his own hands," she said.

According to the police report, the girl's father confronted the tenant, becoming enraged when he showed little remorse.

"He then attacked the tenant, gagged and strangled him. After that, he heated a steel spatula on the stove and burned the man's genitals," investigating officer Arvind Pratap Singh told AFP at the local police station.

Rape[Istan] - Sexual Assault on Women 'Beyond Menopause Age is Not Rape' New Delhi High Court.

Rape[Istan] - Sexual Assault on Women 'Beyond Menopause Age is Not Rape' New Delhi High Court. (IBTimes).

The New Delhi High Court has acquitted a 49-year-old man charged with raping and killing a woman, on grounds that the victim was "beyond the age of menopause."

The verdict sparked outrage in India as it suggests that intercourse with women, who are going through the menopause, cannot necessarily be considered as rape, regardless if it they were taken by force.

"As regards the offence punishable under Section 376 IPC the deceased was aged around 65-70 years, thus beyond the age of menopause," read the judgement, delivered by a bench comprising Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Mukta Gupta.

"We find force in the contention of the learned counsel for the appellant that even if the sexual intercourse was forceful it was not forcible and contrary to the wishes and consent of the deceased."

The victim was found dead in her house in December 2010. Investigations and post-mortem exams, which showed the woman had sustained injuries on her vagina, led to the arrest of Achey Lal, who was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The court ruling was not welcomed by some lawyers and activists who argued that the use of the word "menopause" in the verdict is "erroneous".

"The injuries on the victim's vagina proves that there was forced penetration, and the inference will lead to the criminal case of rape," lawyer and activist Vrinda Grover was quoted by news agency DNA as saying.

"On what grounds has the court arrived on the judgement that the case was not one of rape? And where does menopause factor in here? Menopause is a medical condition, and the mention of the word is extraneous and erroneous." Hmmmm.......Delhi is the rape capital of India.....geeesh i wonder why?

Delhi - Four men convicted in Delhi gang-rape sentenced to hang.

Delhi - Four men convicted in Delhi gang-rape sentenced to hang.(France24).

An Indian court has sentenced to death all four men convicted for the gang rape and murder of a woman in an attack on a Delhi bus last December. The hanging sentence now goes to India's High Court for confirmation and can later be appealed.
A judge sentenced four men to death Friday for the fatal gang rape of an Indian student on a bus last December, triggering applause inside the packed courtroom.
Judge Yogesh Khanna told a court in the Indian capital that the case, which sparked widespread anger against the treatment of women in the country, fell into the "rarest of rare category", which justified capital punishment.
"In these times when crimes against women are on the rise, court cannot turn a blind eye to this gruesome act," he said.
As the courtroom burst into applause, the father of the 23-year-old victim told reporters that he was delighted with the sentence.
"We are very happy," said the father, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his late daughter.
"Justice has been delivered," he told reporters inside the court, flanked by his wife and sons.
His wife said that her daughter's "wish has been fulfilled at last".
One of the men, Vinay Sharma, broke down in tears as the sentence was announced, according to an AFP correspondent.
All four suspects were teary eyed as they entered the cramped room to hear their punishment after they were convicted on Tuesday of a string of charges including murder and gang rape.
There had been a huge clamour for the four -- Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, and Mukesh Singh -- to be executed for their attack on the physiotherapy student and her male companion on December 16.
After prosecution lawyers argued on Wednesday the gang were guilty of a "diabolical" crime, the victim's mother had implored the judge to hand down the death sentence.Read the full story here.

Mumbai photojournalist gang-raped: one arrested, four accused identified, say police.

Mumbai photojournalist gang-raped: one arrested, four accused identified, say police.(NDtv).
There is nationwide outrage over the horrific assault on a 22-year-old photojournalist, who was gang-raped by five men on Thursday evening while on assignment at the Shakti Mill compound in Lower Parel, south Mumbai.

The police have arrested one man, who they claim has confessed and has also helped identify four others, who are expected to be arrested soon.

The young woman is in Jaslok Hospital, where a doctor said this evening that she had suffered some internal and external injuries, but is stable and not in intensive care. She underwent an investigative procedure this morning, and was "doing well," though she is "slightly depressed," the doctor said.

The photojournalist's detailed statement to the police and that of a male colleague who was with her, helped identify the accused within hours, Mumbai's police chief said.

The young woman, who works with a magazine in the city, had gone to the isolated mill compound to click photographs. She was accosted by two men soon after she and her colleague entered the compound at 6 pm.

The men beat up and tied her colleague with a belt, before taking turns to rape her along with three others who joined them.

The woman fell unconscious and regained consciousness only at about 8 pm. The attackers had fled by then. The photojournalist and her colleague informed their place of work and then took a cab to the Jaslok Hospital, four km away. The doctors called the police.

The audacity of the crime has stunned the city. The Shakti Mills compound is isolated, but it is in the middle of Mumbai. It has a busy road just 50 metres away. At 6.30 in the evening, there was still daylight.

Before noon on Friday, the Mumbai Police signaled that it had solved the case and arrested one of the five men who allegedly gang raped a 22-year-old photojournalist at the city's Shakti mills compound.

The arrest was made in the very early hours of Friday. Mumbai's police commissioner Satyapal Singh said the accused, in his early 20s, had confessed to his role in the crime and had helped them identify the other four men, providing the police with names and whereabouts.

From the statements the police prepared sketches of the accused - "which were 85% correct," the police chief said - and also gleaned that they were most likely locals who lived in the vicinity of the abandoned mill compound, since they seemed to know the topography very well.

Mr Singh said the police was informed about the incident at about 8.30 on Thursday evening. By 8.45, he said, they had swung into action. "Twenty police teams were formed, different teams were given different tasks," he said.

The sketches were drawn at night and the police teams fanned out to search for the rapists, he said. Within hours the first arrest had been made.

"Rape[Istan]" - Female tourists desert India after sex attacks.

"Rape[Istan]" - Female tourists desert India after sex attacks.(ET).NEW DEHLI: The number of foreign women tourists visiting India has dropped by 35 percent in the past three months following a spate of sex attacks that have made global headlines, a new survey has found.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) says overall tourist arrivals are down 25 percent year-on-year, with holidaymakers opting instead to visit other Asian countries such as Malaysia and Thailand.

The fatal gang-rape of a 23-year-old Indian student by six men on a bus in New Delhi in December sparked outrage over the country’s treatment of women, and since then there have also been other widely reported attacks.

A Swiss cyclist was gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh last month, while a South Korean tourist was allegedly drugged and raped in the same state in January by the son of the owner of a hotel where she was staying.

These incidents have “raised concerns about the safety of female travellers to the country”, said D S Rawat, secretary general at ASSOCHAM, which surveyed 1,200 tour operators from different cities.

Nearly 72 percent of tour operators reported a number of cancellations in the last three months — usually a busy tourist season — especially by female visitors from countries such as Canada, the United States and Australia.

Rawat said deteriorating standards of safety and security were the main reasons for the drop in tourists, although the global economic slowdown was also a factor.

The situation has been further aggravated by the advisory issued by various countries to their citizens visiting India to be cautious and avoid India,” added the release from ASSOCHAM on Sunday.Read the full story here.

Delhi female gang Rape Accused Found Dead in Prison.

Delhi female gang Rape Accused Found Dead in Prison.(Fars).A suspect in the notorious rape and murder of a female student in India's capital, Delhi, was found dead in prison, his lawyer confirmed. Police say Ram Singh hanged himself in Delhi's Tihar jail, but defense lawyers and his family suspect he was murdered, BBC reported.

Ram Singh, 33, was one of five men being held in the rape and murder case. They all deny the charges. The attack on the student on a bus in December outraged India and triggered a debate about the treatment of women. A sixth suspect is being tried by a juvenile court.

The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder, in Delhi, says Singh's death comes as a huge embarrassment for the authorities who are already under enormous pressure over the case. Tihar jail spokesman Sunil Gupta said that Ram Singh appeared to have hanged himself with an improvised rope made from a blanket at about 05:00 local time on Monday (23:30 GMT Sunday).

He said an inquiry had been ordered and Ram Singh's body would be taken for a post mortem examination later on Monday. The spokesman denied Indian media reports that Ram Singh had been on suicide watch, and said three people were sharing his prison cell.

Ram Singh's lawyer, VK Anand, said he was informed about his client's death by police. "This is shocking news. There were no circumstances to suggest that he would commit suicide. He was happy with the trial, it was going on smoothly," Anand said.

Singh's father, Mangelal Singh said his son had a badly injured hand and could not have hanged himself. He also said his son had been raped in prison by other inmates and repeatedly threatened by prisoners and guards. "My son has not committed suicide," he said.

Ram Singh and the four other adult defendants - his brother Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur - have been on trial in a fast-track court. They face 13 charges, including murder, gang-rape, kidnapping and destruction of evidence. If found guilty they face the death sentence. The maximum sentence the juvenile would face if convicted would be three years in a reform facility.

The 23-year-old rape victim, who was not named for legal reasons, was with a male friend when she was attacked on a bus and thrown from the vehicle. She died in a Singapore hospital on 29 December from massive internal injuries. Ram Singh was accused of being the driver of the bus. Tihar prison, which authorities say is the largest in Asia, is India's most high-security prison. The 55-year-old jail houses more than 12,000 inmates although it has an official capacity of about 6,000. The complex includes nine separate prison facilities. Media reports quoting the chief of Tihar prison Vimla Mehra say there were 18 deaths in Tihar prison last year, of which two were cases of suicide.Read the full story here.More here.

India - Delhi Police special women's helpline - 2,000 calls in 45 days.

India - Delhi Police special women's helpline - 2,000 calls in 45 days.(NDtv).
New Delhi: "Sir, some men are following me", "My husband thrashed me again, please save me" - these are some of the 2,000 calls that Delhi Police Special Commissioner Sudhir Yadav has dealt with since a special helpline was activated in the wake of the Dec 16, 2012, gangrape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist.
Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna appointed Yadav the nodal officer to deal with women-related complaints in the capital and his mobile number - 9818099012 - was activated Dec 25, 2012.
Of the 2,000 calls received in the last 45 days, most related to being stalked, getting obscene calls or facing domestic violence - a sad reality proving that the city still has not learnt any lessons."I got at least 300 calls daily last month. Each call was attended properly and immediate necessary action was also taken," Yadav told IANS.
"We maintain a record of each and every call and ensure proper follow up," he added.
In addition, Yadav interacts with several women's NGOs on the last Friday of every month to take stock of the situation at the ground level.
"I have interacted with around 30 NGOs so far and the sessions were very informative. we got to know about our performance and whether our policies were working or not," said Yadav.
"We have discussed several steps to ensure more security for women. I have asked the NGOs to provide self-defence training to young girls like we did last year," he added.
Delhi Police had organized a self-defence training camp in Oct, 2012, in west Delhi's Nanakpura area which was attended by around 100 young working women from the lower income groups.
The women were taught judo, karate, kendo, sumo, aikido, shorinji, kempo and naginata by a visiting Japanese martial arts delegation.
"We were pleased with the results of the workshop and so were the participants. More of such camps would surely be organized soon," Yadav said.Hmmmm.......Rape[Istan].....Learning women to defend themselves is a great initiative, teaching men not to behave as 'animals' is even better.Read the full story here.

"Rape[istan]" - Gang-rape epidemic: India mourns victim, proposes chemical castration for offenders.(RT).India is drafting a bill proposing 30 years’ jail for rapists and possible chemical castration. It comes after a 23-year-old woman, gang-raped in New Delhi, died in hospital, drawing public attention to an epidemic of violence against women.
The victim’s body was transferred from the Singapore hospital where she died on Saturday back to India for the funeral on Sunday morning. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the head of the ruling Congress Party greeted the plane carrying the body at the airport.
The private cremation ceremony was held under tight security in Delhi a few hours after the victim’s body arrived in India.
The case of the medical student raped two weeks ago in the Munirka area of Delhi by a group of men has dominated the Indian public forum. The incident has provoked public outrage, condemning the police and the government for their inaction on the issue of women’s safety.
In response to public uproar, India’s ruling Congress Party is drafting the new legislation for submission to the Justice Verma Committee, charged with reassessing current rape laws and suggesting changing to ensure greater safety for women. The document stipulates a maximum jail sentence of 30 years for those convicted of rape and the introduction of chemical castration as a punitive measure, writes the Indian Express. The draft legislation also stipulates a fast-track deadline of 90 days to finish court proceedings.
Additionally, the Indian government heard calls from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold an emergency parliamentary session to discuss women’s safety after the death of the 23-year-old woman who was brutally gang-raped in New Delhi. The medical student, whose identity remains unknown, was reportedly raped for almost an hour before she and a male friend were beaten with iron bars and then thrown out of the New Delhi bus on which she was traveling.
Six men were charged with murder on Saturday in connection with the rape. If the suspects are convicted of their crimes they will face the death penalty. The rape case has become the focus of protests across India, rallying for greater protection for women in Indian society. New Delhi has an infamous reputation as India’s rape capital, with a report from the Hindustan Times documenting more than 20 rape cases since December 16 in the city.Hmmmm...... Delhi gang-rape victim dies in Singapore hospital.

Delhi gang-rape victim dies in Singapore hospital.(RT).The female victim of a brutal gang-rape on a Delhi bus has died in a Singapore hospital. Her assault sparked massive demonstrations against sexual violence across India.
The 23-year old student “died peacefully” early on Saturday, said a statement by Singapore's Mount Elizabeth hospital, where she was treated for multiple internal injuries.
"We are very sad to report that the patient passed away peacefully at 4.45 am (local time) on 29 Dec 2012," Kelvin Loh, the hospital’s chief executive said.
"Her family and officials from the High Commission of India were by her side. The Mount Elizabeth Hospital team of doctors, nurses and staff join her family in mourning her loss."
Loh said the woman had remained in an extremely critical condition since Thursday when she was flown to Singapore from India. "She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain. She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome."
The young women and her male companion were attacked on a public bus on December 16 by six men who raped her and brutally beat them both. They also inserted an iron rod into her body causing severe organ damage. Both were then stripped and thrown off the bus.
The horrendous incident in the Indian capital sparked violent weeklong demonstrations, with protesters demanding greater security for women and urging the death penalty for the suspects.Hmmm.....Moving the victim to calm the population won't have helped.May God give those responsible a swift and fitting eternal punishment.Read the full story here.

Did Indian Gov transport gang-rape victim ‘Amanat’ purely for POLITICAL reasons to Singapore?Victim battles against the odds.

Did Indian Gov transport gang-rape victim ‘Amanat’ purely for POLITICAL reasons to Singapore?Victim battles against the odds.(HD).An Indian gang-rape victim was "struggling against the odds" to survive after suffering a heart attack and brain injuries, as medics criticised a decision to fly her to Singapore.
In a bulletin issued the day after her arrival in Singapore, doctors at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital said the 23-year-old was battling an infection in her lungs and remained critically ill after the December 16 assault in Delhi.
"The patient is currently struggling against the odds, and fighting for her life," Kelvin Loh, chief executive officer of Mount Elizabeth Hospital where she was airlifted to from India, said in a statement.
"Our medical team's investigations upon her arrival at the hospital yesterday showed that in addition to her prior cardiac arrest, she also had infection of her lungs and abdomen, as well as significant brain injury," he added.
"A multi-disciplinary team of specialists has been working tirelessly to treat her since her arrival, and is doing everything possible to stabilise her condition over the next few days." On Thursday night, the hospital revealed that the woman, who is a student in Delhi, had undergone "three abdominal surgeries and experienced a cardiac arrest in India" as it gave the first detailed rundown of her condition.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been treated in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital since she was thrown off a bus in the capital after six men took turns to rape her at the back of the vehicle on December 16.
She also suffered severe intestinal injuries as a result of being assaulted with an iron bar, according to police and prosecutors.
The decision to fly her in a special air ambulance was taken at a meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cabinet on Wednesday, the government having already promised to pay all her medical bills.
But while ministers have insisted that the decision was taken purely on medical grounds, newspapers have suggested that authorities who have struggled to retain nationwide protests over the attack were keen to have her transferred out of the country.
An unnamed doctor who was part of a team of experts consulted about the transfer told The Hindu newspaper that they had only been asked whether it was safe to move her rather than if it was the best course of action.
"The question was not whether there were any deficiencies in treatment that would be met by moving her... She was being given the best possible care." Samiran Nundy, chairman of the organ transplant and gastro-surgery department of Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, told the paper that the transfer made little sense.
"I just can't understand why a critically ill patient with infection in blood and body, high grade fever and on the ventilator is being transferred," he said.
The government announced on Thursday that it would post the photos, names and addresses of convicted rapists on official websites to publicly shame them. The campaign will begin in Delhi, which has been dubbed India's "rape capital".
"Our prayers are with the brave young girl. The best possible medical care is being provided to her," the premier told reporters on Friday.
"You have my assurance that our government is committed to bring the guilty to justice as soon as possible." His comments were echoed by Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the main ruling Congress party and India's most powerful politician.
"Our only wish today is that the victim recovers and culprits are punished and no time is lost in bringing perpetrators of such barbarous and heinous crimes to book," she said alongside Singh.
The woman's family has flown to Singapore to keep a vigil at the hospital.Hmmmm......"Well being of the state?"Read the full story here.

India - "Women shouldn't take buses at night": Congress leader's shocking comment.

India - "Women shouldn't take buses at night": Congress leader's shocking comment.(NDTV).Hyderabad: Across the country, protesters and activists are demanding better safety for women after a young medical student was gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi a week ago.
But in Andhra Pradesh, the head of the Congress offered a shocking assessment. "We also condemn the incident. But we should consider the circumstances. They should also think that they should not go in a private bus at night. We say we got freedom at midnight but doesn't mean we can roam around freely at midnight,'' said Botsa Satyanarayana. Incidentally, he is also the state transport minister and controls the whole fleet of Road Transport Corporation buses.
After a backlash of virulent criticism, he apologised and said his remarks had been misunderstood.
The student who was savagely assaulted is in hospital in critical condition. Her case has motivated thousands of students and others to rally for more police patrols on Delhi's streets at night, swift trials in sexual assault cases, and safer public transport in the capital.
The government has asked a judicial committee headed by former Supreme Court judge JS Verma to evaluate the response of officials after the student's attack, and to suggest changes to laws for sexual assault crimes.
The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court has confirmed that starting January 2, five fast-track courts will hold daily hearings for rape cases including last weekend's gang-rape case.Read the full story here.

Almost all of Delhi gang rape Female victim's intestines removed.

Almost all of Delhi gang rape female victim's intestines removed.(NDtv).In a two-hour-long surgery, almost the entire intestines of the 23-year-old medical student, who was gang-raped and brutally beaten with an iron rod for about 45 minutes on a Delhi bus, have been removed. Doctors attending to her said the intestines had become "non-viable and prone to gangrene."
Her abdomen has been cleaned and closed. The doctors describe this as "one of the most tragic incidents we have ever seen," and said this evening that the young woman is in critical condition. They say all emergency procedures have been performed now and they expect to do no more surgeries in the next one week.
She will be kept in Intensive Care Unit and they will wait for her to stabilise before they start looking at compensating the loss of intestinal processes, the doctors said. They also said they hoped there would be no further complications. The young woman was coherent as she was being wheeled in for surgery, the doctors said, and she spoke to her mother and brother. She has also reportedly given a statement to the police detailing the traumatic bus journey from the time she boarded it on Sunday evening.
The woman, who has had multiple surgeries, was brought to the hospital late on Sunday night with her intestines ruptured and injury marks all over her body. After she regained consciousness, she was unable to speak and was scribbling messages for doctors and nurses.
The student was gang-raped and beaten for almost an hour as the privately owned bus she had boarded to go him, drove around south Delhi. Four men, including the driver of the bus, have been arrested in the case.
A male friend escorting her back home was beaten too with the iron rod. Police sources said the incident happened after an argument over why she was out with a man late in the night and the men on the bus decided to "teach her a lesson."
After raping and torturing her they threw the woman and her friend out of the bus on a flyover where they were found unconscious.Hmmmm.....May God give them a swift and fitting punishment.Read the full story here.

"Beer - Chocolate and now Rape?" - Five gang rapes a week in Belgium.

"Beer - Chocolate and now Rape?" - Five gang rapes a week in Belgium.(FN). Each and every week on average five gang rapes are reported to the police in Belgium. The figures come from the Interior Ministry. The number of cases of rape too remains at alarming levels in Belgium. Last year the police recorded 232 gang rapes. Since 2007 there have been around 250 gang rapes a year in Belgium. The figures peaked in 2007 with 293 cases being reported. The figures revealed to Parliament show that a large number of the suspects are minors. In 2011 25 suspects were minors, while 73 were adults. In a lion's share of all cases the victims are women. Gang rape is often linked to black urban gangs in Brussels, but the figures show a wider problem. Last year a man was convicted in connection with charges relating to five gang rapes. Together with two minors he got a 14-year-old girl drunk and repeatedly raped her. Last year 3,024 rapes were reported in Belgium. In the years since 2007 an average of 3,000 rapes were reported each and every year.Read the full story here.
