Chechen teachers claim being forced to conduct "spiritual certification". (CaucasianKnot).

In Chechnya, teachers of secondary schools are required to conduct "spiritual certification" of young people during weekends. This was reported by teachers of the Shali and Kurchaloi Districts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 18, the website of the Chechen Parliament reported that by the decision of the leader of Chechnya, in the republic, every person in the age from 14 to 35 years old should pass "spiritual and moral certification" and report about personal religious views and tribal affiliation.

Ramzan Kadyrov himself denied the information and called it a fiction.

Nevertheless, according to residents of the republic, the Chechen authorities have not abandoned the idea of "spiritual and moral certification" of young people, and because of the public resonance, they are implementing it under the guise of questioning.

According to teachers of one of the schools in the Shali District, on March 13, they "were obliged to hold questioning of the population."

"The administration of our village and our district police inspector ordered us to conduct a questioning. On March 13, our group of three teachers questioned at least 150 families. (According to copies of questionnaires, they should be filled in by young people and confirmed by their relatives, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'.) Meanwhile, the administration officials were dissatisfied with the number of questioned families," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a teacher of a school in the Shali District.

Another teacher has noted in the course of a conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that "teachers are obliged to carry out questioning of people during weekends, and they are not paid for that." According to the source, teachers "are deprived of their rights", and "they have no possibility to complain."

The minister of war for the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), Abu Omar al-Shishani, also known as Omar the Chechen, is “clinically dead” following a U.S.-led coalition air strike in northern Syria last week, a group that monitors the conflict in Syria said on Sunday.

The Pentagon confirmed that it had targeted Shishani in a strike last week near the northeastern Syrian town of Shaddadi but it could not confirm that he had been killed.

At the time, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which relies on a network of sources and activists on the ground for its information, said that “he did not die” in the strike.

On Sunday, the U.K.-based monitoring group said that the red-bearded general is in hospital after being transferred to Raqqa, Syria.

“Shishani is not able to breathe on his own and is using machines,” SOHR head Rami Abdulrahman told AFP news agency. “He has been clinically dead for several days.”

Moldova a safe 'transit' country for wannabe ISIS Fighters?

Four years ago, Moldova’s Muslims, a tiny minority in this overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian country of 3.56 million, won the legal right to organize. But now, following the arrests of suspected collaborators with Islamic State, they face another daunting challenge – fighting the stereotype that Moldovan Muslims are terrorists.

On May 30, two Moldovan men were sentenced to 30 days of pre-trial detention in the Moldovan capital, Chișinău, on charges of allegedly offering refuge to “mercenaries” from Islamic State and “creating a criminal organization.” Only one of their names (Abu Israfil) has been released.

The charges came three days after Moldovan police detained two men and two women suspected of intending to travel with three children to Syria via Moldova.

One of the men, a native of Dagestan, and a 16-year-old girl originally from Chechnya were deported to Russia. A second man, a native of Chechnya with a Tajik passport, is in the custody of migration and refugee officials. The Chechnya-born woman accompanying him, who traveled to Moldova from France, remains in police custody. The status of the three children is unknown. Names for the group have not been released.

Despite these arrests, the country’s risk for ISIS activity generally has not attracted international notice. At least one ISIS militant, Abdullah al-Moldovi (Abdullah the Moldovan), is believed to hail from Moldova, RFE/RL has reported, but the country was not included in the US Department of State’s recently released world report on terrorism.

Muslim Moldovans, estimated by believers to number several thousand, have reasons to be sensitive about the ISIS arrests, however. Until 2011, the government denied them official registration as a group. Drop-ins by police on worship services were regularly reported, as well as alleged harassment.
 
Imam Wahhab says that Moldova’s Islamic League tries to guard against radicalism by building ties with other countries’ Islamic associations that focus on “religious knowledge, away from extremes and extremism.”“Wherever we feel that fanaticism is beginning, we must stop it before it generates into something worse, as is the case of ISIS,” he commented.

The government was not available to comment about its own approach for warding off ISIS recruiters.

The group’s alleged interest in Moldova, however, is not unusual for such cases. In early May, British citizens Arif Malik and Sara Kiran, traveling with their four children, requested to be deported to Moldova from Turkey after being stopped in Ankara under suspicion of travel to Syria. Reasons for the request and the family’s current whereabouts are not known. MOSCOW — Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov broke into floods of tears as he unveiled a purported relic of the Prophet Mohammed in a bizarre ceremony involving a Rolls Royce motorcade, reports said Thursday.
The government of the majority Muslim Russian Northern Caucasus region, recovering after two separatist wars and still battling Islamic insurgents, boasted that the cup was 1,400 years old and had belonged to the Prophet.
The cup had earlier been flown into the Chechen capital Grozny from London where it was kept by unnamed descendants of Mohammed's cousin Ali.
Kadyrov, clad in a bright purple shirt and trousers and a black Muslim skullcap, triumphantly carried the boxed relic straight off the plane at the airport at the ceremony on Wednesday.
He then sped through Grozny in a Rolls-Royce cabriolet surrounded by a motorcade of at least 20 luxury cars, the first Russian television pictures of the event showed Thursday.
The flag-waving delegation then arrived to Grozny's central mosque greeted by a crowd of singing and clapping people.
The Chechen leader then proceeded to take the jade-coloured bowl out of bubble wrapping, and broke down in uncontrollable tears after kissing the object, covering his reddening face and shaking violently.
The Chechen government said in a statement on its website that "the cup was used by Prophet Mohammed, passing to his cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib the fourth Caliph." Further details on its authenticity were not immediately available.
Anyone will be able to drink water from it on the day of Mohammed's birthday, the Chechen government said.
Kadyrov, who has ruled the war-torn region since 2007 and was reappointed in the post earlier this year, has overseen several grandiose projects and events in Grozny aimed at boosting his political clout.
He has also encouraged the revival of Islam in the region, inaugurating in 2008 the "Heart of Chechnya" mosque, said to be the biggest in Europe.
