"Space the Final frontier, To Boldly Go where no Twelver Went Before" - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to be Iran's first astronaut.
"Space the Final frontier, To Boldly Go where no Twelver Went Before" - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to be Iran's first astronaut.(NDtv).President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday he was ready to be the first human sent into orbit by Iran's fledgling space program, Iranian media reported.
Iran declared last week that it had successfully launched a monkey into space and retrieved it alive, which officials hailed as a major step towards their goal of sending humans into space.
The launch added to Western concerns about Iran's space program because the same rocket technology could potentially be used to deliver a nuclear warhead on a ballistic missile.
"I am ready to be the first human to be sent to space by Iranian scientists," Ahmadinejad said on Monday, on the sidelines of an exhibition of space achievements in Tehran, according to the Mehr news agency.
"Sending living things into space are the result of Iranian efforts and the dedication of thousands of Iranian scientists."
Ahmadinejad is known for provocative public comments and it was unclear whether the suggestion was a serious one.
His second and final term as president ends in June, and his political star has been on the wane since he fell out with parliament early in his second term and appeared to lose the support of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Hmmm.....Jim are we in search of the 'hidden imam'?Read the full story here.

The Telegraph thinks that Iran's Space Monkey is a Fake?....So did we, that's why we added the flying pig.(Telegraph).Iran’s triumphant claim that it successfully sent a monkey into space may have been nothing more than hot air.
Tehran chalked up a victory against its Western detractors this week by presenting - with considerable fanfare - its first simian space traveller. Iran claimed to be one small monkey step away from manned space flight. In Israel, there was concern that Monday’s apparently successful rocket launch proved Iran had overcome crippling international sanctions to develop advanced technology that could be used to power nuclear warheads. But the fear has since subsided with the release of images from a press conference billed as a hero’s welcome for Iran’s first monkey astronaut. The monkey triumphantly presented to the nation’s media in his own silk tuxedo appeared markedly different to the creature that was picture strapped into a rocked prior to its launch into space. That animal had light fur and a distinctive red mole over its right eye. But the monkey that returned was dark haired and had no mole. “It looks like a very different monkey, the nose, the features, everything is different,” said Yariv Bash, founder and CEO of Space Israel, a non profit organisation working to send an unmanned Israel space ship to the moon. “This means that either the original monkey died from a heart attack after the rocket landed or that the experiment didn’t go that well,” Mr Bash concluded. Dismissing as remote the possibility that space flight had a dramatic physical affect on the Iranian monkey, international observers have concluded that either the original animal died in space or that the launch – timed to coincide with the 34th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution - simply never took place.Read the full story here.

Iran to launch monkey into space in July.
Iran to launch monkey into space in July.(Trend).Iran will launch its Kavoshgar-5 rocket with a 300-kg capsule with monkey inside to space this July, head of Iranian Space Agency, Hamid Fazeli said, IRNA reported. He added that as of now, the monkey is undergoing special training for the upcoming launch. Iran, which launched its first satellite into orbit in 2009 and sent a rat, turtles, and worms into space aboard a Kavoshgar-3 rocket in 2010, unveiled its space monkey mission back in February 2011 as a prelude to launching a man into space by 2020. Speaking about the Fajr satellite launch, Fazeli said the necessary work is being conducted to launch the satellite to orbit in the near future. On May 13, Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said that Fajr satellite will be placed in elliptical orbit of 400 km in radius and will remain in space for a year and a half.Read the full story here.
