Iran to install jet engines on home-made UAVs.

Hmmm......Guess we've seen that before.

Iran to install jet engines on home-made UAVs.(Taz).
Iran plans to install jet engines on home-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), Iranian defence minister, Hossein Dehghan said, ISNA news agency reported on Dec. 10.
Dehghan underlined that the engines have already been manufactured.

Iran also has almost wrapped up the production of its own clone of RQ-170 UAV, using reverse engineering technology, Tasnim news agency quoted lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami as saying on Dec. 10.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

On Nov. 18 Iran unveiled its largest yet home-made UAV, titled "Fotros."

On Sep. 28 Iran unveiled a domestically designed and built combat drone, dubbed Yasir, in a ceremony attended by senior military officials.

The first Iranian medium-altitude long-endurance UAV, the Shahed-129 was unveiled in September 2012, which is capable of carrying out combat and reconnaissance missions for 24 hours.
Iran unveiled its first domestically manufactured long-range combat drone, Karrar (Striker), on August 23, 2010.
Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries since the Islamic Republic's defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.Hmmmm........Vorsprung durch technik

Israel showcases latest upgrades in 'Shoval' drone on heels of Iran's introduction of new UAV.

Israel showcases latest upgrades in 'Shoval' drone on heels of Iran's introduction of new UAV.(YNet).A week after the IDF downed a Hezbollah drone entering Israel, and in light of Iran's introduction of a new long range drone, The Israeli Aerospace Industry (IAI) unveiled the newly-enhanced "Shoval" unmanned aerial vehicle on Sunday. The drone, used by the Israeli Air Force and Navy for sea surveillance, has been drastically upgraded.
The improved UAV now includes four special surveillance cameras, installed on the bottom of the drone, while the old version had only one such camera. This upgrade allows the navy higher-quality and faster identification of objects, as well as a much broader exposure from every possible angle. The drone can also identify aircraft flying over the sea and determine whether they are suspicious. Its radar, which has a 300km (190 mile) range, can reach as far as Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt. "The system can inquire and intercept any object within just a few minutes," a senior IAI official said. The UAV weighs 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds) and can carry 256 kilograms (565 pounds) in surveillance cargo. "The Shoval has satellite communication abilities, which means any footage it takes will be broadcasted online to distant location like Paris. This capability allows it to operate during bad weather, in which case it will fly under cloud height and will not be affected by the rain," the official said. Rogozin: "Russia and Israel are negotiating a joint project to build an unmanned aerial vehicle"

Rogozin: "Russia and Israel are negotiating a joint project to build an unmanned aerial vehicle".(RN).Russia and Israel are negotiating a joint project to build an unmanned aerial vehicle, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Wednesday. “We are negotiating with Israel. Our aim is to persuade them to start technological cooperation and to develop a product that will be used in both countries, and could also be sold to third countries,” Rogozin said in an interview with the Rossia-24 TV channel. Russia will no longer buy ready-made weapon systems in the West but is only interested in new technology, said Rogozin, who is responsible for Russia's military-industrial complex. “Technology should be attracted by localizing production on Russian territory,” Rogozin noted. In mid-May a source in the Russian defense industry said Moscow may buy a large new consignment of unmanned aerial vehicles from Israel and 24 command and control systems worth around $50 million in the foreseeable future.
Israel Aerospace Industries previously delivered to Russia two Bird Eye-400, eight I-View Mk150 and two Searcher Mk.2 UAVs, totaling $53 million. “The Defense Ministry is considering the possibility of purchasing from the Israeli company Aeronautics Defense Systems of three types of UAV control systems (eight each): Orbiter 2, Aerostar и Skystar,” the source said. Given that each such system can service two to three UAVs, “between 48 and 72 Israeli UAVs may be bought,” he said, adding that the consensus within the Russian defense department seems to be that these systems are essential until the domestic industry develops and starts large scale manufacturing of similar systems at home.Read the full story here.
