• Iran inaugurates nation's first unmanned bomber.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday inaugurated the country's first domestically built unmanned bomber aircraft, calling it an "ambassador of death" to Iran's enemies.The 4-meter-long drone aircraft can carry up to four cruise missiles and will have a range of 620 miles (1,000 kilometers), according to a state TV report - not far enough to reach archenemy Israel.With a hat tip to Turkey for the technical know how?

Tim Pawlenty on with Sean Hannity where he blasted President Obama for “governing as a misguided liberal.” Pawlenty said Obama sold himself as a pragmatic centrist, but that now, his true self has emerged. Hannity said he would describe Obama as a “radical” rather than a “liberal,” and asked Pawlenty if he would agree with that description. Pawlenty avoided using the term “radical” to describe Obama.

• Growing problem of abandoned babies in Malaysia.Malaysian authorities are grappling with the mounting problem of abandoned babies.Sixty-five infants have been found so far this year, and many were dead by the time they were discovered.The government fears that number will surpass previous totals - an average of 100 babies are found each year.The issue has touched a raw nerve in the Muslim-majority country.

• Nearly 50 percent leave Obama mortgage-aid program.Nearly half of the 1.3 million homeowners who enrolled in the Obama administration's flagship mortgage-relief program have fallen out.The program is intended to help those at risk of foreclosure by lowering their monthly mortgage payments. Friday's report from the Treasury Department suggests the $75 billion government effort is failing to slow the tide of foreclosures in the United States, economists say.

I haven't read the full Fort Hood report, but if the various news reports are accurate then it seems that the DOD investigation focuses on workplace safety issues and the disclosure of mental health problems rather than the obvious -- WTF was a guy in contact with a known terrorist leader doing in the military in the first place?I'm sorry maam your son got killed in a case of workplace violence?

• Russia in color, a century ago.With images from southern and central Russia in the news lately due to extensive wildfires, I thought it would be interesting to look back in time with this extraordinary collection of color photographs taken between 1909 and 1912. In those years, photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) undertook a photographic survey of the Russian Empire with the support of Tsar Nicholas II. 34 pictures in total.
